Skill reset with major patch updates

Today on eso live they talked about how console player where surprised and upset over the skill reset that took place with imperial city. Everyone skills points where given back to them and you had to go back through and re-use them to get you skills back. Apparently ESO felt that outcry was so great that they will no longer give free respects with big patch updates where major changes are made with skills. You will now have to pay you hard earned gold to change your skill, so that magic spell you had that is now stamina based you are going to have to pay to respect to the magic morph.

I do not understand this. I know some people where surprised but they also did not understand that changes had been made to skills. Most people I talked to in game where happy with the free skill reset, so I am confused about how ZOS felt people where upset over it. I feel that when major changes are made to the game they should give us a free respect. When you have almost every skill point in the game and you want to respect your character it is not cheap. That free respect saved me a lot of gold.

What I propose if people really hate it so much, then perhaps we can get the cost of respect reduce to free or almost free when we visit a shrine for about a week. That way people who do not want there skill reset would not have to do it and people who do could just visit the shrine and not have to worry about emptying there wallets.

How do other console player feel about this. I feel like ZOS is jumping the gun on this.

http://www.twitch.tv/zenimaxonlinestudios/v/17721556 here is the link look at 16:30 to hear them talk about it.

Edit: Originally I thought that this was just going to be a console change, but he did not directly state that. It very much could be a change coming to all platforms, so I took console out of the thread title. I also noticed he said there could be time when they would have to do a skill reset, so some clarification from ZOS would be nice.

I loved it. I spent so many points into useless skills and passives, so I needed it badly.

Probably an unpopular opinion here, but I would prefer to not have a mandatory respec so I can see how my build still works with the changes since consoles have no access to the test server. With or without the "free" respec, I would still end up having to pay for another as I tweak my build.

I wish it wasn't all or nothing with ZOS, but that seems to be the pattern.

    Also to add...
If the outcry was large enough for them to make this change, it just shows how many do not come to the forums. Everyone on the forums knew about the skill reset.

This is so typical of ZOS... They once again listen to a vocal minority, come up with a ham-fisted solution to an issue that was not really a problem in the first place, and doing so infuriate the majority of their player base. It's such a bad idea that I seriously start to wonder if there is anyone in ZOS that has any function brain cells at all.

Or just make it optional; a simple prompt on loading a character for the first time during a new patch.

"Would you like to respec your skills?"
    Yes / No.

    Done.

Seriously, I don't understand how some developers remain employed.

Edit: to add, they shouldn't listen to a bunch of terrible console peasants anyway, but such is the direction of games today.

The outcry is due to it being forced and not suggested or optional.....this game has far too many skills and morphs to go back and select....200+ for my main and that's not the max

The free-respect with-a-major-update has been a staple of many MMORPG's. I'm a little surprised they made this decision.
I for one, welcome the free respec. Would have been better if it was like a scroll that you can use when you want, but eh.

That sucks that they're taking it out now.

Yes! Everyone gets a free respec scroll on login patch day. Don't want to mess with your build? Toss it away. Everyone's happy, right? Except now we'll have people complaining about the inventory space taken up by a single scroll.

There are so many other ways they could have gone about in dealing with skill reset, and taking it away completely is the worst possible way. I like the idea of getting a scroll or like someones said when you log on it ask if you would like you skill reset. Please ZOS think of something better then just taking away the skill reset.

Honestly, it's no big deal to just go to the shrine and reset morphs. It's cheap and a lot less hassle than getting a full blown skill reset on a major patch.

I'm surprised so many people want the forced reset, but perhaps this is just blind-wanting because it's "free"? If they did decide to keep the reset after major patches, over time I can guarantee most of you that want this will get tired of it and probably bring this up again.

Also, you talk about "hard earned gold" like it's actually hard earned and that using a shrine is overly expensive, the option to reset morphs is your friend. The majority of my gold has came from running around doing quests and w/e else in a zone before I leave. I've never once felt short on gold, and I've been upgrading inventory and bank space when I need it.

    Edit: Nah.

I have been playing eso since PC launch and moved over to console. They have been giving skill point resets since then for major changes. Those people who complained so much about it this time will get use to it and I guarantee most will stop complaining down the road.

On my crafting character it cost me 11,500 gold to respect my skills. Now that is just one of my characters and I have 3 others I play constantly. The others don't have as many skill point but lets say it cost and average of 8,000. So all my characters together would be 35,500 gold. That to me is not cheap. I don't sell things often and since I craft all the time I deacon everything. So to me to have over 100k gold is a lot and to have to use 35,500 to change skills is a lot of gold. So to me my gold does fill hard earned and I rather not have to use it every time major changes happen.

Respecing my main character is over 14k. I imagine as time goes on having alts and stuff would raise the cost to over 100k. The proper solution is simple. make the respec shrine FREE, or very little charge. Honestly it's not that important to the economy as a gold sink, and it's not like it can be abused... ooo watch out...switched from leveling bows today to 1 handed for shitz and giggles x.x

I think the bigger outrage is this is coming from console... ( hold on, we ~pay to beta test~ for a year, you make massive promises, Charge us for the DLC we've paid for and waited for, abandoned plans to support various styles of play, and now we're subject to the whimsical nature of the console players?)

The respec is wonderful. I don't understand why anyone would be opposed to it. Unless...

If you have been online, especially here in the forums more than a few days, you will see a lot of lazy people, those that are rarely satisfied or content, or those that may have a borderline personality disorder. Unfortunately all are very loud personalities that have the tendency to ruin it for everyone else. It is good that they seem to be somewhat rare in game.

I have been around since 2 weeks after PC launch.. So I have been through every skill reset and am still very thankful for it. Not only has it encouraged me to try different skills, but it also saved me a couple gold when I was done researching a craft ;) sometimes I run low on gold and respecting all my character after major changes is just not realistic. If anything, they would need to allow us super cheap resets for awhile, as they have done previously.

It is such a critical error to have this false dichotomy.

@ZOS_RichLambert , maybe it is time that you and your team look at the necessity of skill resets costing gold. Did you ever think that the gold cost is the real issue? Did you ever consider that the all or nothing nature of a skill reset, even when a player decides to no longer want just a single skill, is the real issue?

I don't mind the respec skill points with each major update as long as they stop with the Nerfage which makes some areas of gameplay a little too silly to try and mitigate.

It was definitely great that they give us a free respec for major updates like these. But I'm quite disappointed, due to people complaining about it.

To make EVERYONE happy, how about after each major skill updates, we get a respec scroll handed to us instead (without auto skill resets)? This way, for those that do not want their skills reset, will still have it; but for those that like to have their skills reset would be able to use the free scroll. Free scroll would only be given once every huge update and cannot be accumulated over multiple updates over time.

I don't want to he punished because someone else is lazy and/or stupid. It's not rocket science, if you don't remember the details, put points into your weapon, armor and class skills and leave the rest until you find a new place for them.

So many ways of better, more player-friendly respec have been suggested over the months. Instead of putting any amount of development time into one of them, ZOS chose the easiest route which will result in a flood of complaints anyway once the other side of the playerbase hears about it. Probably because whoever is in charge of respecs is just as thickheaded as some of the players.

It worked fine for a year. If this is how it must be, if you do it because of console feedback, then please remove free respec from consoles and leave it on PC.
If all platforms must be equal, then please give us a way to respec single skills (entire skill, not morphs). I'm not happy to pay for respeccing 200+ skill points on each of my characters.

If there are changes as bog as there was, than yes, we should get a free respec. With 280+ skills, paying for one is quite a lot of money.

But saying that, it should be done like the CP system.

You simply take them from what you want, put them into what you want, hit submit.

So you then change exactly what you want.
