When do you think ESO will go F2P?

Hard to say, we are down to one vet campaig on PS4 EU. I fear the worst I wonder how the population looks like after 6 month. Also how about if they go F2P before Expansion as double-dip is great strategy. After Expansion back to full price game.

As far as PC goes it is always possible to get the game for free, albeit piracy is involved somehow if it is intended to be bought. As for consoles, pretty sure there's no such thing as a game you don't buy to play. There may be some exceptions via promotional gimmicks or desperation but the fact that there is no subscription beyond the one to play online period which comes from Sony/Microsoft instead of Zenimax means TESO is as free as it's gonna get at this point and has been since console launch. Can't speak present tense for PC since I play on console.

Yes, and then you had to pay Zenimax Media a monthly fee. Later Sony changed their policy and all PS4 online games need PS+ except ftp.

Eh, gw2 hasn't gone completely f2p and it's been out longer and is an overall terrible mmo. So I'll vote never since your biased poll assumes it has to at some point.

I doubt it will ever be, it's still pretty successful in my eyes, there are huge huge costs in server maintenance and upgrades.

One of my close friends does data cabling/electrician and does big jobs for Colchester university (top university in the UK for technology) and maintains a large server room for the uni. Doing jobs recently such as installing fibre optic cabling, and ethernet/tvs throught the uni.

He gets a flat rate of £3000 A DAY to do any wiring there, for a 14 hour day.

Yes that's a very well paid position, but it's just an example of what it can cost for some of the work that goes on throughout the life of maintaining servers.

So many people assume that F2P means the company isn't collecting any money at all. That is so misguided.

Once they are making enough money in the cash shop that box sales are a tiny fraction of their income, it could happen. Get people who are reluctant to pay the box price hooked for free then steer them to the cash shop. Result: more profit!

I didn't think they'd drop the mandatory subscription model, nor did I want it, but they did.

B2P is just testing the waters. I don't want F2P either but I've been around long enough not to say " it'll never happen".

If you're referring to the Xbox One game Neverwinter....they are touting accounts so in comparison it's less popular as TESO sold approx 1.5 mil copies on both consoles vs Neverwinters 2 mil accounts where one console could have 2 or more.

Just putting it into perspective. TESO sales by copies vs Neverwinters accounts opened.

It's not 2 mil+ active accounts (logging in at least once a week)
