I don't know about everyone else, but I really hate having to travel around guild traders to buy things. Would you guys want an auction house in each factions major city?

Sometimes I do hate it - but I like hating it, if that makes any sense.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Your post is nothing unique and auction houses suck. A handful of people can easily dominate the market. Wit this, its is spread a bit larger and just about anyone can make decent penny.

I definitely don't want an "auuction house", whatever that is, but assuming the typo is just that I'll tell you what a do want. With the current system it is all but impossible to find a rare item. There are over a hundred kiosks scattered through out Tamriel and that number will only go up as more are added with expansions like Orsinium. Before the loading screens from Hell it took me almost 4 hours to go to every one of them looking for an item I never found. With the current bugs it would probably take days. And this is on the PC where I can use Awesome Guild Store to make looking the list of items not suck. So what I want is a compromise, something that with some amount of effort, say 30 minutes of work, you can either find the item or realize nobody is selling it. Something like the typo-inspired "auction horse" where you'd have to hunt it down to find it -- like hunting for M'iaq. Or my idea of having vendors give you hints like, "I don't have that but I heard of a trader in Auridon who might have one". That's all we really need as buyers, a way to find what we want (but maybe not at the price we want)

I'd also love it if those damn kiosk traders actually *bought* anything, they're always announcing "Buying! Selling! Trading!" but only sell. ;D What I'd love to see is something like this -- say I want Voidstone Ore. I put a buy order in at the guild store, "Buy up to 200 Voidstone Ore, paying $12g/piece" I give the trader my money (and a fee for them and the guild) and they'll offer to buy ore from folks who visit their kiosk.

I feel that the current system just isn't working. In WoW, if I wanted some crafting mats I would just search for the item at one centralized location and buy from a selection of ALL sellers. ESO's system has me literally running from town to town, guild trader to guild trader just to find the cheapest mats. Auction House would eliminate the need to run around 3 entire faction zones to ALL major cities to find a cheap item. This current system blows.

I do think the idea of running around buying "crafting mats" at a guild trader is kind of funny. All the time spent doing that - and you could have gotten them for free!

Nope, I like the system how it is.
Over time I've built up personal knowledge of which guilds have reasonable prices and which don't. I like to reward these guilds for being sensible, so I'll go to these first often whenever I'm looking for something and won't even worry about the others.

Last year, I often thought we do need an Auction House.
    I changed my mind.
Imagine how the prices would drop when everyone wants to undercut the others.. this would only destroy the market. And what do we get from selling items? Nothing.

    This.

However I do think there should be a way to centralize searching for items, at least per city/zone.

I never really suffered any great inconvenience from having to go around all the guild stores looking for something rare or trying to get the right price on something. also I like the general approach of it being easier to do something yourself or within a guild bank etc. than to pay some stranger to do it

Being able to view all the guild kiosks in just one city, at the same time, with a single search, would be an ideal compromise.

It would really make up for the crappy UI they went with. And it would make the kiosks in the middle of nowhere more attractive to guilds that want to create artificial economic bubbles. Win-win.

    No.

The global search feature of the auction house is really the big problem. It let's people take control of rare and useful items and undercutting will destroy the price on anything that has higher supply than demand.

The only items that might maintain a healthy price level would be materials and consumables because they have some kind of production - consumption cycle. Here supply and demand might work.

And you can call it whatever you like - auction house, global search, trade hireling, faction bazaar, centralized trade hub, ..... - it's basically the same feature in disguise. And the global search feature IS dangerous to the economy. You would have to implement other measures like making the items from the AH bind-on-pickup so they cannot be re-listed.

So please vote yes on this poll if you want your complaints to change from:

"I cannot find the item I am looking for within reasonable time"
    and
"It takes soooo long to sell something because people can't see what I am offering"

    to:

"I have found the item, but how can anybody pay THAT much ??"
    and
"The price is sooooo damn low, I just sell it to the NPC"

It's very important that people understand that due to the nature of the mega server it would have to be a global auction house. It would be nothing like The auction house you see in games like World of Warcraft which are broken up into tiny isolated individual markets due to the much smaller populations of each individual server.

I don't want a global auction house, as i like the 'shopping' aspect of going through the kiosks when buying.

However, i would like some easier way to sell your goods. If you are not in a guild with a good trader, selling is not easy. Maybe allowing individual players to go to a kiosk and put your wares on it(and only on it, not global), for a fee, would be good. The fee could be set by the kiosk owner(guild) and go towards their funds.

Honestly, I agree. I think it would have been smarter if there were a limited number of places for guilds to sell their wares in a city/location. Then throughout that location there would be a number of traders that would sell specific items. For example, you would head to the alchemist and there you could search for all related alchemy ingredients in that city for all the guilds. Similarly you could head to the armour store, and there you would be able to with one search look at all the armour available in the city that all guild have placed.

    Doing this I think would,
    a) make searching a little quicker/easy/sensical, and
    b) make use of the NPC locations in cities (e.g. NPC armour shops) that are basically completely dead and serve no function in the game.

No, that would not be an auction house. It would be the same system that is already in game(separate kiosks selling separate wares, unlike a global auction house), except that you would not have to be a member of the guild owning the kiosk to sell your wares there (instead, you would pay them for the posting).

Definitely a big no, with people undercutting other people (remember this is a megaserver) the prices would drop so fast i would be poor as dirt, this system might work on WoW due to having many servers/realms but it would completely ruin the market in ESO due to the megaserver.
