Not a lot. You have to actually have Tel Var Stones in the first place before you can loose them.

I just made 10k stones last night (achievement doesn't count losses)... Definitely haven't lost that many.

the only reason mine is that low is because i allways bank at around 800 to maybe 1200 out of fear, only 2 times was i killed when i had about 1000 on me and both times i really did not like that.

Usually because I get fear spammed by 2-3 nightblades and get stuck in some f**king corner and instakilled.

I am assuming this is how much I lost. Not counting the times when I am not farming stones and I am just fighting people for funsies (stones come and go in big street brawls and I don't regard any of them as mine or pay attention to what I gained or lost).

I am pretty careful and have had good luck so far.

I have no real need or use for tel var stones apart from selling the barter junk for gold. My main reason for going to Imperial City is close quarters PvP, a nice and refreshing change from the expansive Cyrodiil. I wouldn't care if i didn't earn a single stone at all and if there is something i need gear wise, i will buy it with gold, got plenty of it. I am more interested in the crafting mats than anything when I kill mobs.
I charge in with a fighting spirit and i care less if i have any stones on me or not and also I will not flee is someone is winning, if I died in a fair fight, the person deserved to get my stones.
I will however run from zergs, but I did that before IC anyway, nothing to do with how much stones I have - I just hate zergfests in general and find it humiliating when 20 desperate people chase after 1 person and then corpsejump you as if killing 1 person is some huge accomplishment.

To think, some people actually spend hours of their life farming stones in a boring fashion... /shrug
To me my alliance rank means a lot more than TV stones, while a nice bonus if you get a motherlode off some farmer, it is far from my main goal and I will not desperately try to get to the bank to deposit it. Hence why I have lost so many - i simply don't care.
PvP is and will be my Nr.1 goal - even if they remove any kind of "reward" for it (except for alliance rank - gotta have that!)

For those of you wondering, you can find out by knowing
1) how much you have in the bank
2) how many TV Stones you already spent through TV vendor
3) total stones acquired (can be seen through the achievement tracking the TV Stones acquired - if less than 100k)

For this, I have lost just under 5k so far. I'm very careful about my stones (although nothing on the TV merchants really peak my interest).

According to the achievement, and how much I know I have spent, I have made 54k stones total, and lost about 12k.

I've played a pretty unhealthy amount since launch of IC


(There is an achievement under Imperial City, that lists the total amount of TV stones gotten.)

Even though not playing that much again yet, I always manage to get decent stones from chests that get ignore from the side areas and a few ganks, but I always bank every 50 or so stones, so don't lose that much.

Also have trolled people who chase me for fun by having only one or so stone on me

After three days IC-ing, I had around 2700 stones banked, and lost about half as much... its IC, you gotta expect that sort of thing. Everyone wants to grab your stones, sometimes they do you, sometimes you do them... the important bit is to try and bank your "precious" whenever you can, so you don't loose too much when the inevitable happens and someone sticks it in your rear... but hey, every now and then you do get a perfect opportunity to do the same, and end up with an unexpected windfall yourself...
