So if I skip the IC expac... what will I miss out on?

I'm on console and after reading about people's frustrating IC experiences, I'm convinced I absolutely don't want to buy this expansion.

I don't really play MMOs for PvP and although it's fun on occasion, just the thought of paying extra cash to be forced to participate in it for the next expansion doesn't make me want to buy this at all.

If I decide to skip this DLC as a PvE player, what do I stand to miss out on / lose?

Do PvE players really need it as well or can we skip it completely and not miss out on too much?

Right now, I'd rather quit the game completely than do forced PvP...

The base patch, without the DLC, allows you to reach VR16. As long as you are satisfied with your current gear and aren't wanting VR16 gear, you won't miss much.

Wait, so you cannot get VR16 gear unless you enter the new PvP zones and you cannot enter the new PvP zones unless you bought the DLC?

You can buy it from other players, and some you can craft yourself. Although the mats will have to be bought from others either way.

So the only way to source the gear post IC release is to either enter the PvP zone and farm it yourself OR buy it from other players?

Urgh, I feel like I just want to cut my losses with this game...

You won't be missing out on much, the gear isn't phenomenal, the quest line is exceedingly short, really the only downside of not getting the IC DLC is not seeing the IC. It's beautiful, but it's very... Meh. Just look for screenshots? ;)

You'll miss out on the PvP experience that finally dragged this die-hard PvE player into the PvP world. Yes, there are bugs, there are gankers, there are zergs, but there is a whole city out there to be played in, die in, cursed at, and reveled in. Considering it costs half the number of crowns as the Imperial Motif or the same number of crowns as that ice horse folks are riding around to say the IC is anything less than the best place to spend your crowns is ludicrous.

all 4 man dungeons scale to VR16 and drop VR16 gear including undaunted and Agility, Endurance, and Willpower gear. IC is needed for the other new gear sets, so you'll still be able to upgrade to VR16 gear.

    Okay, that certainly helps.

As a PvEr I really don't want to be forced into PvP. Just not sure how much of the new DLC you may 'need' to stay on par with the broader ESO community in game is all.

The two new dungeons in the DLC are PVE only... so you are NOT forced to PvP if you don't want to.

The best gear drops in these dungeons.

But go into the mixed pve/pvp zone with an open mind and you may be surprised.... I've been in it all the time with quite a few people who have never pvp'ed before, and who didnt think it was their thing and they loved it as part of a small group! :)

    What you miss out on:
    1. the two new PvE 4P group dungeons in IC (fun, and give you skill points, and occasionally in pledge rotation)
    2. The new Imperial City PvP content, i.e. Sewers (public dungeon), various city sectors, a few new skyshards
    3. A bunch of new drop sets, very few of which are actually good; some items may be obtainable from bosses as random drops in other non-IC dungeons scaled to vr15 or 16 anyway
    4. a bunch of new achievements :)

What you can still get (from other players) albeit with difficulty, i.e. it's easier/cheaper with the DLC:
    5. Xivkyn motif and (charcoal of remorse) style material - only from imperial city
    6. Vr15/16 enchants and the new tri-enchant essence stone - only from IC
    7. Vr15 Potion solvents (although you can get Vr10 solvents in Craglorn now); also vr15 provisioning recipes
    8. Materials for crafting vr15/16 armor/weapons - can be obtained from hirelings or by deconstructing vr15/16 gear from scaled vet dungeon bosses and undaunted chests. However, you need stupidly large amounts for crafting vr16 gear (130+ per item), so you will need a LOT.
    9. Three new special crafted sets, with locations in the IC. (You will need to pay someone if you need them)

Where it doesn't make a difference:
    10. Trials and vDSA scaling have not changed
    11. you can get Glass motif fragments and malachite shards (probably more easily than people in IC)
    12. you can get to vr16 with regular PvE content, just can't craft vr16 gear and enchants easily unless you buy the mats. (VR15 gear requires a lot fewer mats, so is achieveable).
    13. scaled 4P group dungeons will now drop Worm Cult, Martial knowledge and some other set items up to Vr14
    14. 2 piece monster helm/shoulder sets will now scale up to vr16, with no horrible traits in the random selection (Sturdy, Training, etc. have been excluded for these items)

    Thanks for the info davidbarryb16_ESO!

I admit I'm wary as I don't want to do PvP if I'm not in the mood to do it. I don't mind PvP occasionally for a change, but it's something I'd want to avoid if forced. Just not my thing.

Gives me food for thought at least and helps me calm my nerves on the whole thing.

I'm a primary PvE Healer... going into a PvP zone is... painful :(

I like this Dlc, there are some things that I like less, like spawn points near battles inside the City or no immunity for some seconds when you go down to the sewers, but I like it overall because finally me and guildmates can do something together other than the same trials or pvp , the only things that a guild with more of 4 ppl could do until now was , playing together...Now there are different pvp scenarios, bosses to do inside the sewers, pvp while pve ,love it.The new quests are short yes but well made, liked it, and there are the daylies.

can just wait till orsinum to get VR 18 gear without frustration. the jump from VR14 gear to VR16 is marginal and it literally cost 10x more in materials if you want to craft it.

From what I saw, IC is pretty much only giving you those neat new PvP sets, and the resources to craft the new highend stuff. Some skyshards and such, of course... AND the hunt for TV-stones is somewhat taxing if you are not super-effective in PvP, since... well... guess where all the gankmeister are?

If you love PvP, IC will be great for you. The PvE mobs are tough, the danger of gankage high, the hunt of TV stones exillerating or frustrating depending on which way it goes for you today, and all in all you will get exactly what the advertising promises - a lot of PvPness!

If you hate PvP, stay away, get your advancement to V16 elsewhere (craglorn is half empty these days as all the so-called cool kids are in IC...), keep your V14 gear for now (or buy yourself that set you always wanted - with V16 around, guildstore prices are liable to drop as more and more V16 stuff shows up in player hands), and wait for Orsinium...

You will miss out PvP gear with impenetrable traits, which makes it pretty second choice for a PvEer.

...and you will not miss out new and nice PvE drop sets, because the drop rate is fubar, the grind for a trophy vault key is fubar and the random number generator rules not just the drop chance but even the traits on those new PvE sets (reinforced anyone?) and therefore is the new endboss nobody will be able to beat. Even Molag Bal cowers in front of the supremacy of the rng.

For the most part, the pvp is more enjoyable as well. It is far more often small scale.

As primarily a PvE player, I find the Sewers (public dungeon basically) to be really fun, and you can get a lot of Tel Var stones with relatively few encounters of enemy players if you stay near your home base, and avoid peak hours (i.e. weekends etc). I expect that the upper city districts would be much more of a PvP fest tho... :)

I wonder if crafting vr18 gear will cost full stacks of materials.. *gulps*

I kinda find it funny how people complained CP is too much of a grind, and VR was too much of a grind, so ZoS introduces a whole new crafting grind. :p
