Do you make impracticable builds?

Who here has or will make an impracticable build for fun or lore reasons? Or does everyone just min/max the hell out of every decision?

I did some research about races and additions.
For this reason I have a nightblade bosmer (good combination) which is a werewolf (racial buffs negate the effect of the WW debuff) and a dunmer sorcerer which is a vampire too.

Every other thing is just random chosen.
Bosmers are small, mine is created as "scout" idea, extra small, thin, but some muscles.

My main is an impractical build, for fun.
She's a templar who uses a bow. Not really good dps, not really a good healer, but I have a ball doing just enough of both to be challenging and not die. sometimes.

I have started a Nightblade with a bow, planning to go all stamina.... so far her dps FEELS much stronger, but that may be partly because of champion points already helping her out. she's only level 7 right now, while my main is V2.

Lets see, I have a Heavy Armor Dragon Knight Caster who uses 1H/S and a Destro Staff. So, not Min/Maxing that guy.

I just started a full heavy armor Redguard with a two hander. I'm playing him like a kind of swordmaster, using only 2-handed and Aedric Spear skills. So far he's a blast to play, but I'm not sure how long he will last once I get him in the higher levels.

I experiment with a lot of unconventional builds.

A very fun one i once had was a high Health regen and Defense build as a werewolf.
Not hitting very hard, but pretty though to kill. Very fun one.
(Need to do some more test with builds in the new imperial city. Don't have enough firepower to cut though the enemies at, and they use a lot of Fire (i'm a vamp).

I made a NB healer/support build, with scouting capabilities. I struggle with getting kills 1v1, but it's fun to play, particularly in the support role.

Even a non min/max build can be very fun/rewarding to play, based on yer desired playstyle.

Working non standard semi-viable builds are the most sensitive to whatever BS nerf or change ZOS decides to make. It usually doesn't worth the time investment. My 7heavy 2W /2H stam nb dps in cheap gear that worked well enough(maybe above average) for any vet dungeon is certainly something that would not even begin making sense now.

Before I was consumed by min/maxing, my dunmer DK donned heavy armor and wielded a 2H on each bar. Not the best setup considering I didn't even take advantage of set bonuses, but it worked...at least during questing.

This is my main after I returned to ESO when it went B2P. I was running standard heavy armor with stamina enchants and a couple of unexceptional 2 handers.

And here he is again after my buddy asked me why I wasn't running any set gear.

And now I have Tarvyn set up as a pyromancer. Before the recent update, he was pulling anywhere from 15-20k dps. I ran the typical silks of the sun, cyrodiil's light, torug's pact and valkyn skoria setup. So much fire! Melisandre would be proud. :naughty:

I like this topic. You might find a decent build out of what some perceive as an impractical one. I've been messing around with a Sorc Tank/DPS type deal using full medium armour (for the stam buffs), Imperial (Sword and boars/stam/health passives). My medium armour consists of seducer and magnus to give me that missing magicka and regen. With the stam block nerf I'm really glad I did this.. a magicka character with a decent amount of stamina management is a good thing. It's a pretty weird setup, but a lot of fun at the same time.

Not sure if it counts as "impreactical", since I tend to go more in the direction of min/max than not, but I always chose race based on what I want to play, rather than what is most efficient. Like a Nord Stamina Nightblade with a 2-handed weapon and bow.

Had a Rainbow Warrior DK pre 1.7, doesn't work anymore, but was mostly for fun.

Name comes from having a 2h sword with 3 different buffs on it: Rally, Molten Armaments and Camo Hunter. I decided to wear a mainly pink armor with random colourz as secondary visuals.

Using a heavy attack on a group of 3 mobs would deal FULL damage to the main target and a secondary target, and about 50% of it to the third one. So I'd just buff up, sneak attack and shout "RAINBOOOOOOOOW STRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKE!" like a madman.

This build isn't to be anymore :(

I have a Nord Nightblade Vampire caster with 7 light and a destro staff. I picked Nord for the health regen and mostly for the beard. Nords have the coolest beards in the game.
I wasn't taking him seriously and was just playing him for fun. Then I realized that I was in my 40's and it was actually working pretty good. Now he's one of my favorite characters.

Just tried a Nightblade Cryomancer - basically using immobilises and 60% speed reduction to your advantage. Works great in PVE, not so much in Cyrodiil..

I figured trying a heavy armor health regen orc DK swinging a 2h would just be a fun, impractical experiment and cool to see, crazy looking heavy armor with a flaming magmatic maul/etc, until it became the first build I could solo normal group dungeons with :)

Well since I have levelled pretty much all weapon skills, when I play solo I go with whatever fun and half-useless skill I've got. I simply enjoy the hell out of playing a different build than what I normally use in group content.

Absolutely no idea... it would have been logic if all 3 took full damage, or only the main target took full damage while the 2 others took like half the damage, but that was like that in 1.6...

This sadly doesn't work anymore since IC :(

Being fairly new to this game, I tried to read a lot of builds so I can be competitive once I go PVP. I'm now finding much of that information has changed or is now obsolete.

In a way, it's cool that the game continuously evolves even through I can imagine many who have invested months in their build get very frustrated.

I think my second build will be much more experimental. What's the best race for a fisherman? ;)

I just started building a Nord Templar Tank that uses a Frost staff. Given the Nords extra health now, and that Ice Staff heavy attacks grant you a shield based on health, I figured it might be a fun little combo to try out.

Will it be the best Tank? Hell no. But I'm thinking it might be fun. Going to need to run as a DPS until I can get to the Undaunted Taunt, but I can deal with that.

I think that an easier option would be Restoration staff (For heavy attack) And Sun Shield (one of the Morphs).
Restoration staff has enough Magicka return to use Sun shield after each heavy attack, which also work on health.

Idk how much magicka a Ice staff heavy restores... else you could combo them.
(Also, how big is the shield of Ice staff?)

The ice staff gives a 4%/8% of health damage shield.

I'll probably use a resto staff on my off bar just in case. But I'll have sun shield on my main bar as my main shield.

How much damage did you manage to do?
I've been experimenting with health regen builds myself, but often my damage just plainly sucks.
Its doable as a high health regen werewolf, but as a Templar its impossible.

I don't have addons that track anything, but while it's less than pure DPS numbers, it's not as horrid as it may seem. Using lots of maul (penetration trait) heavy attacks with molten armaments, wrecking blow, brawler, rally, talons, breath, dragon blood, etc etc, pretty fun :) Not PVP, just PVE solo, he'd not be that great in groups, other than rarely needing to be healed and to constantly be putting out a certain modicum of DPS and CC.

Trying to figure ways to eek more offensive punch out of it w/out losing the health regen, its a fun experiment :)
