I realise people will get passionate about ESO... And I should also point out I don't really expect anything but ridicule for saying this so fire away...

But why do people insist on insulting their fellows forum users with clearly insulting terms like "PVE Carebear" or "Elitist Ganker", or "PVE Whiner" or "brainless grinder"? Do we really need to resort to schoolyard language? I sometimes wonder at the abhorrent lack of respect between people talking about a game.

What do you guys think? I am not saying nerf the forums , I just wonder if anyone else has noticed how widespread this is and how do you guys feel about it being acceptable to call another poster a crybaby because they have a concern about something. I'm just saying maybe we can do better.
Ask not what your sweetroll can do for you....

'Tis foolishness. Why, if all were so easy none would suffer in this world!

Also it just shows their own insecurities that they hide from real people because they're too chickenspit to express themselves that way in real life so they take it out on virtual people instead.

Gamers are kind of unique when it comes to us all sharing the same hobby/passion. Whilst enthusiasts in other areas such as collecting toys, antiques etc all generally interact with one another in a civilised manner due to their shared passion, we all love to hate on one another.

When we're not hating on others for not playing on the same platform as ourselves, we hate on one another because the other guy plays a different genre. When we're playing the same genre, we then hate on one another for preferring one series of games/devs (Beth or BioWare for example) over another and when that's not enough, we hate on one another for preferring one game within a series over another game in the same series and so on.

The worst part is we all like to delude ourselves that it's the kids that are rude and abusive, however, anyone willing to lift their head from their ass for even a minute will realise it's mostly the adults that are the worst perpetrators. Like any other dev forum out there, most of the threads on here are full of adults calling each other idiots etc. The only reason it's not as rampant on here is down to the mods/devs having an almost zero tolerance policy when it comes to abuse and trolling, and nothing to do with the users. Given half the chance these forums would become as toxic as other mmo sites.

Many people communicate in english believing that using the same language makes them think and react the same way. Truth is, it's not a native language for many of us, and we all come from different cultural and educational backgrounds, which means that the meaning of words varies A LOT depending on people, said backgrounds, knowledge of english, whether they are on the writing or on the reading side of things, etc.

Even though all previous remarks about this being the internet, this being a competitive fairly violent MMO game with PvP, about people lacking IRL social interactions, people feeling allowed to anything behind a keyboard, etc etc is also true, I prefer to think of it as a cultural difference and that people did actually not mean it that way. Makes it easier to swallow.

Actually and no matter what, it annoys me less than carefully thought passive-aggressive communication, such as people writing polite BUT very aggressive/despising posts and ending them with "All the Best" or "Have a nice day". Can't stand those.

The mods are coming down with the hammer. I got my slap yesterday but I had it coming. Their house, their rules. I came in and put my feet up on the couch so a slap upside the head is warranted heh.

But you think this is bad?

On PS4 area chat in Daggerfall there was an obviously young kid (said he was 6) squeeking on the mic and a good 4 or 5 young males (their voices sound like the pimply face kid from the Simpsons) cursing him out, cursing out his mom, and saying things that would get you incarcerated in real life. I mean if an 18 yo was outside cursing out a 6 yo child the police would lock him up (and probably beat the living crap out of him for "resisting").

That's online gaming in 2015 for you.

While I agree that some people need a glove-slap to the face when they generalize a type of player into one of these childish categories. The overall tone I get from these forums is far better than other MMO forums. People here seem to care a bit more about someones opinion and suggestions; and aren't so blind to things that need changes.

I still have access to the FFXIV forums and I've seen suggestions pop up there time and again about issues I had when playing a year ago and even new good ideas. And the response they get from some players is disgusting; they seem blind to some facts and far more immature and I hardly see people standing up to support a good idea. But that game is to blame for it's own toxic community, the games systems are old and rigid.

While this forums has it's immaturity, it's a long way from FFXIV level of mindless arguing. All they care about is how pretty they look and how massive they're "item level" is. ESO is a lot more fun and the forums are way more enjoyable to read.

Stomp some trolls, but don't turn into a troll to stomp a troll lol.

Very basically and generally speaking, it's often because they're insecure in themselves to the point where anyone with differing views/goals/outlook/etc is considered a 'threat'. So commonly the reaction is to mitigate the threat in some way by putting down, belittling, or similar, to make themselves both feel better and reinforce their own identity and self worth.

It is a product of today's society a lot of the time. Folks are raised to think if they stomp their feet, throw a tantrum, and pitch a big enough fit, that they will get what they want or they do the same because they didn't get their way.

Other times it is just folks like to stir the pot and they have fun doing so.
