ESO File Size

I've noticed that ESO has almost completely taken over my 120gb SSD. My current ESO file size is 105gb. I know that there is a DLC round the corner and I was wondering, does anyone know the file size for this?

I have 12gb free and I want to hold off on buying a new SSD till the very last moment.

Other questions are; Is there a way I can strip down that 105gb & delete any unnecessary files? & will I be able to get away with buying a 250gb SSD or will I need a 500gb SSD to future proof my ESO playing?

Delete the PTS server version, that literally will double the HDD space installed. Old patch data can also lead to a lot of uselessly wasted space. That game itself on PC with no PTS is maybe only 42 or so gb.

"Only 42 or so gb"..... I can't imagine using that word combination even just 5 years ago.

EDIT: Got console/PC sizes mixed, fixed typo.

I know right, the numbers are just silly now ;)

    I can't believe i'm even contemplating upgrading from a 120gb to a 250g or even 500gb for one game!

That's great news then, where can I find the old patch data to delete & the PTS server?

My guess is they made separate versions of all of the zones for the veteran levels, each for each faction, etc. Bloated the game size.

Delete the PTS, though. That'll cut that at least in half.

250gb SSD's are super cheap at the moment at less than 250 dollars online.

    I recommend these ones.

But honestly you could just put the PTS on another hard drive, a backup high performance HDD is less than $50. Also stick all your media files and any other big files you don't use every day on to the backup HDD, they don't need to be on the SSD.

The only things that should be on your SSD is your operating system/program files etc etc, games with long loading times and screens and that's it. Everything else can be put on your backup HDD.

I bought a 250GB SSD in 2012....still runs great and more than enough space although I did have to move my steam games to my backup 2TB HDD drive.

I might even upgrade to a 512Gb SSD in the future when I build my new PC for a game called Star Citizen. That game is going to be massive in size...

So if you have a lot of games you will need 250+GB SSD + backup 1-2TB HDD as a minimum eventually anyway. You will run out of space even on a 250GB if you have a lot of games or media. 3-4 big sized games and your SSD will fill up fast.

I've just checked and apparently I don't have the PTS game in my folder nor is it on left hand side under the 'games' section of the launcher.

I currently run windows on a 60gb SSD, 120gb for ESO & a 1tb HDD for all my other junk.

I have copied my ESO from my HDD a few times and I'm wondering if it's some how downloaded the game twice or bloated itself out in some way?

As you guys have said 105gb is way too big but I don't have the PTS or atleast it appears I don't. So how do I safely start deleting files to free up space?

Look whether you have a "patchdata.depot" folder in your client directory, or if you can find files with names like "depot_-1to84.z01.partial" or "depot_-1to103.z01". If your client is fully patched and you're able to log in and play, you can safely delete those.

Funny enough I saw the 'patchdata.depot' folder which is currently residing at 63gb & decided to move it across to my HDD to test it out. It works without that folder & I've just freed up 60gb. Thank you guys.

You could save your addon settings and do a complete uninstall of ESO, remove all downloads from your download folder that you don't need as well, they can build up fast in size. Also clean up any internet temporary files if you have not done so in a long time. Then do a full re download of ESO and reinstall fresh. Then copy your addon settings back.

Only problem is if ESO is roughly 42.5GB in size, you will need roughly 85GB of space free to download and install it or the horribly un-optimized ESO client will just refuse to install until you free up more space. I have had this issue before when I had plenty of space but the client refused to install saying it did not have enough.....you can blame ZOS's crappy client for that.

Best advice to anyone though is never do anything you are not comfortable with or have confidence of your knowledge in what you are doing, because that's how things get really messed up if you start clicking without really knowing what you are doing.

Every users PC is maintained differently and setup differently so I can only advised you on what I would do for "my" PC, your PC could be completely different or you could have things on there that are I don't know about causing you to have low space on your SSD, like I said only you know your PC.

You could also check in program files the size of the zenimax folder by right clicking the folder and clicking properties, it will tell you how much GB of files total is in the folder. On windows 7 it would be, Start>Computer>Your SSD>Program Files(x86)>Zenimax Online folder right click>properties>Size on Disk = 42.5 GB (45,664,694,272 bytes)
