[Group Healing] Fundamentals how do you heal range DPS that aren't in you line of sight?

I'm having difficulty with my healing fundamentals; my group range DPS get spread out and are often behind me and other than throwing healing ward on them and hoping to turn and find them in time to spam Healing Springs, I don't know how to save them. What ends up happening is that I'll turn on Inner Light, Hit my DPS with Combat Prayer, get close to the Tank to throw down the fighter's guild rune, Sap Essence and then peel back and start healing; bows are keeping distance and the tank is taunting and keeping the focus of the main enemy and then they get hit and die quickly because I couldn't find them fast enough. I've watched a few videos but mostly those are talking about talents. Any help would be appreciated.

I am not a healer, i do, however know what they would say.

Its your group's responsibility to make healing effective for you. They need to position themselves for you and use potions and heals in accordance to what your able to do.

A healer is not expected to single handedly to heal ALL damage, but enough and at certain points to ensure success

From what I read this is more of a group problem than anything you are doing. Communication is vital

This is basic group mechanics and you aren't failing at it your ranged DPS is. If they want to run 80' away and lob arrows that's fine. But it's on them to find you for healing if they do. They should have potions and maybe one "OMGWTFBBQ" move to recover from disasters but Healing Springs is too powerful to pass up as your core healing ability. If you're a Templar you might consider Repentance since that targets the group not an area. But it requires some dead bodies and isn't spammable so it's not as versatile as Healing Springs.

There's a little function on your group frame. If you're too far away to get the heals, the healer's name will be faded out.
It's a dps' responsibility to dance back into range of those heals, if they want them.

Healing ward works if they're down far enough, someone else mentioned breath of life if you're a Templar. Other than that, the ranged dps will have to suffer.

I had the 'privilege' of being the healer for a pug silver key run with 3 ranged dps a few days ago. I kept telling them the more they spread out, the less effective a healer I was. I'm honestly amazed we got the key.

When I'm on heals, if I catch people behind me I'll ask them how they expect to get healed. If it becomes a problem, I wish them well and go find another group.

Sure would be nice if there were a hotkey to make your character face a given groupmember.
Not necessarily target them, but just get you faced in the approximate right direction.

Hm. Might be addon material. Not sure if the api will let me control the camera though. I kinda don't think it does.

If the ranged DPS are too far spread out to get heals, that's their issue. In Dungeons the healers main goal is to keep the tank alive, when the tank dies, everyone else does as well. If your on Consoles you can tell them to get closer if they want heals. If your on PC and not using a chat program, let them know in the group chat they are too far away to receive heals and need to move closer. As a healer you can't be running all over the dungeon because the DPS can't stay within healing range.

Sadly this is actually a typical case ..

Bow users are really bad a working in groups, same goes for pvp players that jump around and "dance" all over the place like monkeys on steroids, because that's what they do in pvp .... in pve, they just lower their damage, die because they get out of healing range, accidently aggro adds that could have been avoided, reset bosses because they run too far away >.<

Best thing you can do, is to focus on the rest of the group and let them die and learn things the hard way. There is a reason why people stand still, hold back on dps if tank looses aggro, ressurect teammate and don't wait for the healer to do it during intense fights where healer is stressed out already.

This is kinda the main problem when healing as a non templar. It requires a group that's half decent with knowledge of basic positioning and situational awareness.

Many pug players lacks that. They think it's totally ok to stand 35+ meters away from everyone else and fire with a bow during spike dmg, stand in red and so on(than blame the healer when they die).

I mean it's not even ok to do that when a temlar is healing, but at least they can save the situation, waste all their magicka on one stupid dude + babysit bad dps. Non templars cant do that, so derps will die.

As others have said, this is more the fault of the DPS than of the healer. Having said that, there are a couple of healing skills in the resto staff skill line that don't require line of sight. Rapid Regeneration and Healing Ward will both work even on folks that are behind you. They still need those people to be within a certain distance, though, so if the ranged DPS are spreading out too much it can still be impossible to hit them with those while still keeping the tank alive.

I was in a training run for Sanctum a few months back and the gentleman that was explaining the first trash pull for us cast Purifying Ritual centered on where we were supposed to stay (it has a wider circle than Healing Springs) and said: "This is my healing circle. If you are outside of it, you are dead to me."

I use funnel health on my resto bar rather than rapid regen. So it's healing springs, healing ward, combat prayer, funnel health, inner light, DW bar is dampen magicka, sap essence, fighters Guild rune, Impale or whatever, inner light. What I'm really taking from this is to explain to the DPS about my healing limitations.

I have a nightblade healer build posted here:
    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/155898/1-6-nightblade-healer-bloodmage

Basically, keep hots rolling all the time like funnel health. When someone in ranged takes too much damage, you healing ward them. If you are spamming healing ward, then something is most likely wrong. Either someone is standing in stupid that they should not be and are not positioned correctly or you are not trusting your HoTs enough. If a dps just takes one spike of damage, give them one healing ward and they should be topped off in another second or 2 with your hots.
If they take the spike damage, then eat through the ward immediately, they are probably standing in stupid. Nothing you can do about that.
It could also be a positioning thing. If you find yourself in a very heal intensive fight (Last boss in vet Fungal or DSA) then positioning is key. They need to be positioned so that you can make healing springs work. It can be done in every fight. I promise.
He's the healer Tamriel deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hurt his tank. Because he can heal them to full. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful rejuvinator. A Cloaked Healer.

as a healer myself if I ever hear one say that I will say they fail at being an mmo healer. personally if I watch the health bars of them once I see one starting to drop I look at them and drop a hot(heal over time) heal so I can know where they are incase I need to make a quick switch. its the healers job to know where everyone is and who is holding agro for effective heals.

OK, same as rapid regen, that one doesn't require line of sight.

Yup, that's really the biggest lesson to take from this. The best healer in the world can't help a group that stays too spread out.

Ahh that is true rapid regen leaves a trail to who its going to funnel health doesn't do that, I might consider throwing regen on my resto bar

always a nice addition to it. I've been known to also drop blood alter, I morphed it to the increased hp synergy but forgot name, and drop it on the boss area with the tank for the synergy of healing 60% of their max hp. just incase they need a quick hp heal while I heal a range dps or am low on magika and recharging it via pot or heavy attack or in the case that a range dps is out in left field and have to save his butt. :p
