The fact that it's been over a year has shown me unequivocally that they have no intention of making a game players want to play. The person/s in charge felt their superior ideas for MMORPG just needed time to take hold, it's been a year and the vast majority of the player base has left and not returned even though the game no longer requires a sub, I think the experiment is over.

Because ZOS said no AH. (I'd rather have AH myself but it matters not if they keep saying No)

So what is more constructive and/or likely to achieve any changes? To keep asking for AH or work towards improving the current system?

zoned auction houses is the best logical choice in the horrible guild trader evolution

I've said that too, and someone responded that ZOS said zoned/regional wasn't possible or something with the phasing system. Idk, that was a while ago.

Personally, I think we need a suggestion/feedback forum area of it's own, and that every so often ZOS can do an "ask me anything" type thread on single topics. For example "Let's talk about the Trading system" and players can ask their questions/put forth feedback and someone could answer why they might not even work.

Might could be mostly fluff but it would give the idea that there is some real back and forth discussion and communication, which could only be an improvement (imo)
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

i dont mind the guild trader system, its just having to redo my damn search over and over again at different places makes it super annoying and tedious. which is why i suggest zone base auction houses, as stated on page one :D

I'm not wedded to the idea of an auction house, but the game does need the implementation of a trading system that is open and accessible to all regardless of level, faction, guild membership or other artificial barrier to participation in what is a core part of any MMO. The present guild trader system simply doesn't cut it, on so many levels.

A lot of the problems with Guild Traders stem from the fact that ZOS pushed out Version 1 and has largely ignored it since then. Version 1 was never a complete solution. It was more of a "good enough for right now" solution. A year later, we have only seen minor incremental changes. We are still running a Version 1 that lacks some significant necessary improvements. It is in this area that ZOS can fix a lot.

The only improvement to the current system would be to burn it to the ground and build an AH.

OK, that's overstating it a bit much, let's look at the problems with the current system...

First and foremost it creates a Microsoft/Amazon effect where the big trading guilds get bigger simply by the fact that they are already big. The bigger they get, the bigger they are able to get, by extension the more power they amass, and with that power they become unassailable.

Does Tamriel really need an Amazon.com?

The second largest problem is that trading is a 1 way street. Your average player has no avenue to sell their wares, and therefore has less gold to buy yours. As an average player with absolutely zero interest in trading guild politics, only the rarest of items do I ever even considering trying to sell, and every time it has come up I have ultimately decided it wasn't worth the effort of trying to spam chat or trying to join a trading guild that has a kiosk that isn't in the middle of Timbuktu.

Shouldn't all players have equal access to goods distribution?

The main reason I never joined a trading guild back at launch was because I was not going to support a system that gives a free 500 slot bank to anyone willing to spam chat with JOIN MY TRADING GUILD! In a game where storage space is a highly prized commodity, it's unfathomable to me that they never fixed this. Whereas a normal guild exists to work together as a team, and a guild bank provides a cache of shared resources to bolster that team, a trading guild exists as nothing more than a group of random strangers with no connection with each other what so ever.

    A trading guild isn't even a guild.

Player convenience is something Bethesimax seems to find of paramount importance. By that I mean, they seem absolutely determined to ensure that nothing in the game is in any way convenient what so ever. Guild vendors have the absolute worst interface I've ever seen, bar none. The interface would barely be acceptable as a rough draft for proof of concept, yet for ESO it's a finished product.

Does Bethesimax high kids right out of high school to design their interfaces?

So what have we got? A system that is extremely inconvenient, a chore to navigate, promotes monopolies, turns the bulk of the player base into consumers, and is just generally despised by the vast majority of players.

    What is there to fix?

    global auction house. no.

    zoned auction house. yes.

each zone has a main auction house just like those 5 crappy guild traders but its in one place and its all shared together. meaning what you list to sell in the Riften auction house only shows up in the riften auction house it will be better than hunting through 5 traders that are crappy and may not have what youre looking for from a guild that only has 120 people in it. so a zoned auction house which will be easier to go through as its all in one place and it will have 1000s of people listing items so the item will be easier to find and prices will have a base line instead of a 10k nord motif which is over priced to every motif being 2500 and everyone will be happy and everything will be easier for all. :D

whats the point of spreading them around though?
The way I see it, you would have people selling gear and mats the same level as the zone, making it easier to know where to find stuff.

I'm not opposed to tweaks, I just don't think a global AH is right for this game.

Global auction house needs to happen. This half-assed system we have now where everything is split up is just stupid. I don't even bother auction shopping because I'm not about to start jumping all over the game world in the hopes that the stars might align and I'll find what I'm looking for.

I'm basically just doing what I can to provide what I want for myself because this system is just aggravating.

Nobody has ever brought up this topic before.

Sarcasm sensed, but why do you think there are so many topics on the issue pal? Its a flawed system

No, actually the fact that so many people seemed annoyed with it tells me the system is working fine, people are just lazy.

Why would I want to change a system that has given me so many amazing deals and continues to enable me to sell just about anything I don't want to keep?

I don't really want to compete with every ESO player when I try to sell something, at the same time I don't want to compete with every ESO player when I'm looking for a deal on an item, or even more when I'm looking for a rare item.

I guess I'm lucky in that I never played other MMORPGS so I haven't gotten hooked on this drug called global auction house, where you turn items into gold with little to no effort or thought. The global auction houses seem like they're so damn easy and accessible that anyone can pick up the trade with no effort. In ESO, being a merchant is more like a crafting trade, and not just a tool for players to get some extra gold and empty your bags with a few clicks of the mouse.

I like it, you might not, that doesn't mean the system is flawed, we just have differing opinions.

What on earth could you be looking for that takes you to more than 2 wayshrines? :o I never even have to port to one to find what I need most of the time. The most I've ever had to port was three wayshrines max in all the time since I've been playing.

Are you perhaps looking for things like ambrosia pages or endgame gear? Because those are intended to be hard to find. Or are you perhaps looking for a specific gear, trait and quality combination? In which case, yes that is a relatively understandable hassle (albeit the specifics of any combination alone will make any guild supply seem slim). Or maybe its just a specific green recipe?

Not trying to be rude, just genuinely curios because I have never encountered this problem (even on my VR characters).

Do you honestly not see the problem in having to travel to different parts of the world just to see what traders are selling? If you don't understand what is wrong with that picture I can't help you.

Provisioning recipes for daily crafting writs, to name but one category of item I've had to hunt all over for, and then hunt some more before finding (a) the recipe and (b) a sensible price.

What exactly causes the headache? All you've said is that you don't like going from place to place to access the guild traders. That's kind of a dumb reason to hate the system, and I don't think you'll find any sympathy for that. That's like saying you want a bank, a merchant, all the crafting tables, dye tables, and anything a player could ever need to use, in the same room in every city of every zone. It just sounds like laziness.

I will agree that the actual guild trader screen leaves much to be desired and could use many improvements. But, there are some addons that will make it much easier and quicker to use. http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info695-AwesomeGuildStore.html for example is one that I've started using lately.

Ingredients and runes right off the top of my head. Especially lower level items! I've had to cover the major hubs in all 3 factions + Craglorn to find 1 ingredient....was almost 2 hours I could have been actually playing. ( I didn't have Awesome Guildstore to keyword search/save search then) No exaggeration :(

Comparison shopping, some people claim Master Merchant is the worst addon ever, ruins the system and blah blah. It just makes it harder to overcharge players while hoping they actually want to play the game instead of running around to 50 traders checking prices. But for the average player not farming goodies to sell all day or "playing the market"....we just want a decent price we can afford.

I'm sure there are merchant oriented games out there, but in an MMO such as this "ease of use" should be top priority over providing a mini game for the few interested.

Is the alternative to this everyone selling items in the same place? If so then it seems like there would be massive item listings and the chances of your item being overlooked would be greater then your guild trader not being visited. It would be great for buyers but bad for sellers.

I would argue that those items would become even more difficult to find with a global auction house. There's probably more people buying low level recipes and runes than there are people selling and farming them.

Also, with a global auction house someone could easily corner the market on a particular item, for example if I purchased all the level 3 square runes that ever got put on the auction house, I could set my price and corner the market. Anyone who puts any of them on for less, I buy them up instantly, so the majority of the items for offer would be mine, or ones more expensive than mine.

What is up with guild traders who have no wares?

Always seems like there's 2 options:
    • Buy overpriced stuff from monopoly guild traders
    • Search, usually in vain, and waste time at other guild traders that have low level or low quality stuff I don't need
Disabling the grass may improve performance.
