The Phoenix set does not work - FIXED in v2.1.1

Pre patch v2.1.1:

The Phoenix set does not currently work on the PTS.

It states in the tooltip that:
When the effect ends, you heal yourself and explode for 5128 Flame Damage to nearby enemies.

However, the set does not work as intended. Instead it explodes for the damage while you are still locked in statue form and then keeps you locked until the selfheal (which either does not come or is negated by the fact that you can be killed in the waiting for it, while your skills are locked).

I have done multiple tests that keep giving the same conclusion, marvelous screech of a phoenix, followed by a cool explosion, followed by immediate death..

Here is a video of one of my tests (if you look at my health, you can see that I receive no 5k heal as stated in the tooltip):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akPTbwmdnQ8

Another video example (here I actually receive the healing, but same result..):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqjpLmsMX4E

Further, I think the new Tel Var sets are quite lackluster, take the Phoenix set for example, it explodes for 5k damage and heals 5k (well is intended to anyway), 5k damage which in pvp = 2.5k because of battle spirit damage nerf. This set would be much greater if it healed and exploded for 15000 damage, because then it would actually be a worthwhile set to use in both PvP and PvE.

Currently The Phoenix is just a broken set that, if you seek an equivalent effect, is outdone by the Yokeda set, both normal and Eternal, since these sets do not keep you from using your skills when the effect is supposed to end and will actually give you a second chance in a fight.

After patch v2.1.1:

Did a few more tests, all three resulted in the heal happening at the correct time without locking you down and one actually shows it healing more than it should be able to, which means healing increased buffs will increase the heal. Another video shows the explosion critting. It's still a super weak heal and damage in my opinion, having it at at least 10 or 15k damage / heal would make it actually useful, the 5k heal will not save you in most situations, certainly not against players. It should be something to watch out for, I mean it looks and sounds majestic but it is the equivalent of getting slapped with a wet noodle.

Explodes and heals as intended (4.7k heal, 4.6k explosion):

Explodes and heals, even if I say it doesn't in the video I just couldn't see it because the damage overlayed it (it does 4.7k heal, 6.9k crit explosion):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ElyoBnnSLk

Here's the video where the healing is a lot higher, possibly because of the coagulating blood buff, which I think is not intended to increase it and certainly not by that much (9k heal, 4.9k crit explosion):

Yeah, mine too, which is why I even made this post. One of those things that sounds really cool and looks really cool, but then is either terribly ineffective or broken. In this case it is both :/

I collected 8000 telvar stones and spent it on this set, bought the random boxes.

Took me a week and then i found out like the OP that 99 % of the time when the set procs i was still dead within one second

And that was when fighting npc's, not even enemy players

So i wont spent my tv stones again on this set haha

Whenever it works, someone should cast Healing Ward while you're a statue.

strange, the Trial Eternal Yokeda one makes you immune to dmg, seems they forgot to add that part ;)

Yeah I usually use the Eternal Yokeda set and that one actually makes you untargetable for the duration and a short while after, giving you like a second to heal.

After the v2.1.1 patch this set seems to work, I have added another section to the post with 3 videos of it working correctly and also updated the title.

I am glad they fixed it, but they could have said so in the patch notes, which did not mention it at all.

The phoenix form now seems to behave much more like the yokeda set, which means you will probably still be killed while "invulnerable", but for the most part npcs will not be able to target you with attacks while you are in the form and for about a 1s after it ends, giving you a small window in which you can selfheal / drink a potion to survive.

The only thing left to say about this set now that it works is that it is just not that good. Too little healing, too little damage from the explosion and honestly not very special and not worth getting in my opinion, I am perfectly happy with Eternal Yokeda with its 200 ultimate when you turn into a statue, at least that helps you out.

The phoenix hits like a noodle, but at least it does so with grace.

Tried this in PvP tonight and thought it was broken. It saved me a couple times, but only because my friends cleared the small area around me quickly. When I was around an enemy they usually killed me instantly after coming out. Need a little more time to heal up or need it to do more damage.

Definitely very cool though, to have a light armor yokeda set for pvp :) my favorite set. Spell Power Cure set I think is broken and doesn't proc the shield on every crit (accounting for cooldown here), and doesn't seem to proc on yourself at least when I tested it. Otherwise that might be my favorite set.

Using it in 2.10, Healing Ward on the "dead" player was a must have.
I'll have to get some Tel Var stones later if I want to test this.
In case I don't, I'd be very interesting in how it behaves on fall damage now. That is, what happens when you die mid air and the statue falls down to the ground.
Last patch, the fall damage registered when the effect ended, killing you.

You can get the set on the pts through the vr16 template characters. On Live the yokeda sets saves you from dying from a fall I seem to remember. I can give the phoenix a go and see if it saves you from fall damage.

I did, could have sworn it wasn't in the first day. :frowning:
Anyway, I tested it yesterday. You will now die instantly when the statue hits the ground. :expressionless:
