Why does it take so long to "leave combat"?

For several seconds after you kill the last enemy you cannot interact with anything because of being "in combat" mode. I'm fairly certain it hasn't always taken so long, so why has this cooldown been extended? It's quite annoying when you try to clear enemies next to a chest or node, and have to hope no one runs up and interacts with what you're after when you're just standing there locked "in combat".

Yeah it's very noticeable if you accidentally kill any of the local fauna.

It does need to be reduced.

The combat state is buggy as heck, especially in Cyrodiil. I will sometimes randomly enter and exit combat with no enemy or signs of life in sight. Sometimes it drops you out of combat in seconds, sometimes it takes minutes after the end of fight. It seems like it is very random and buggy.
Someone from ZoS told me it often remains in-combat when the enemy i attacked is fighting someone which is just stupid. Why should i be stuck in combat when the enemy i fought 10 minutes ago who is probably somewhere across the map, fighting someone? Just plain bad coding or decision making.
It should work like any other game, where if you are not hit ore hitting someone for lets say.. 10 seconds, you drop out of combat regardless where you are or what you do.
If the enemy cannot keep you engaged in combat, it's their own fault be it player or NPC.
Hopefully it will get fixed with IC.

It's bad for healers, if they can someone their contsantly in combat for like 4 minutes after it ended.

This delay with leaving combat after killing something is new this year I forget where it get inserted, but it has been an annoyance for a while. I had to dig up an add-on just to tell me that I was in combat because it was no longer obvious when I wasn't.

I know this is a year-old thread, but.....

Was this problem ever addressed? Anyone find a resolution?

I am having the same problem described by the Original Post. After last NPC is killed, sometimes "Combat End" occurs in 1-2 seconds. But with perhaps 50% of combats, it takes 3-5 seconds -- and sometimes as long as 10 seconds -- before I am "out of combat" and can interact with nearby objects (resource nodes, chests, etc.).

Is there any way to reduce this delay? The fact that it is random (sometimes 1-2 seconds, other times 10 seconds) makes me think it is a bug or server-side performance issue. Any ideas?

It was not. I still use an addon to let me know when I get out of combat, but I can usually guess how long it will take, now.

I have basically given up on ever being able to ride a horse in Cyrodiil when anyone starts to engage. I am permanently in combat until I die from that point onward. :|

This is what I have noticed...

If an attack I do places certain dots on a target, I stay in combat the exact time that would have worn off had they not died earlier. This seems to be most noticed by me on my Templar using Reflective light, the damage over 6.5 seconds being the cause(IMO). It really sucks when something dies being hit with that and I am waiting up to 6 seconds to loot the node/chest next to the kill.

There is another one, I can't recall which class or skill off the top of my head, where I won't go out of combat once the buff a skill gives me wears off.

What addon is this? I've been furiously mashing H and swearing until I can get on my sparkle cat.

    Hello everyone!

So seeing how this thread is a little over a year old we've felt it necessary to close this thread. Though please feel free to create a new thread on the matter if you'd like to spark a new discussion! :) Also in most cases if the player sheaths their weapons it also ends the combat phase.

    Hope this helps!
