Ridicolous amount of materials needed for VR15 and VR16 sets?

since the compareson of v15 and v16 and its power is small, we all shall wear v15 gear - problem solved and fu zos :)

@DDuke I don't chose any of your options. My choice goes into another direction: If I want to play an MGO (massive grind online), I am going to play one of the asian grinders.

You have your monster sets to display your grind skills. Let me retain my almost-as-good craft sets.

    Two options:

    1. You make crafting require atleast close to the same amount of effort as getting good dropped sets, which has been done (somewhat) with this change to materials.
    2. You make crafting sets worse than dropped sets, because dropped sets require more effort to get.

    Pick your poison.

I for one am happy crafting is no longer a "reach level cap, instantly craft best gear" process (nothing to do with "complexity" btw as mentioned in your post). More effort=better gear, less effort=worse gear. Simple.

That all sounds quite dreadful, actually, let's not go with either of those options. Let's try this instead:

    3. Design gear so that crafted and dropped sets offer unique playstyle options, can be mixed and matched, and are otherwise not objectively better than anything else. Suddenly remember that it took all master crafters probably 10x as long to finish research and motif learning than it took you to get your Skoria or Super Great Chestpiece Of Ophidian Apotheosiscitude or whatever. Come out with new dropped and crafted sets with each DLC installment so that the marketplace of build ideas is always fresh.

Oh look at that, we highlighted the thing that is already true, go us! Team effort, really. These high-level gear crafting costs are very apparently out of line with how the system's been designed so far, where the emphasis is on build diversity and comparative ease of access. While certain things about the dropped sets should be changed to be more in line with these goals (trait changes, for instance), it's not too hard to see the general design strategy they've been using so far.

Oh my, I didn't even bother to read far enough on my first comment to see this little gem here.

I don't know what world you are living in, but it will still be this way for the grind faction. Only the non grind faction will suffer the consequence of this change.

There is no skill or effort involved in farming 2.71 bazillion mobs for enough drops to deconstruct. "Effort" implies a challenging task that yields appropriate reward after making it (the "effort"). Grinding loot is not challenging. It is boring.

What you say with that statement, is that you think this change is good because it rewards the dumbest, most boring gameplay there is. It rewards overcoming the humungous obstacle of killing V16 trash mobs in sewer and running back to home base once your bags are full.

Fighting other players, doing the quests, exploring the city and killing the bosses, all of this will not be the "best route" to crafting materials. Killing trashmobs nearby bank & crafting station is. What a tremendous improvement of crafting.

I find 150 mats per Vet 16 item a bit exaggerated given the fact that people tend to experiment with their new gear and I can understand that they don't want to do it in Vet 14. Also, does the gap from Vet 15 to Vet 16 gear really warrant a tenfold investment of crafting materials? I find this gap simply illogical.

However, should ZOS chose to let these numbers go live I guess we all have to live with it. I only hope for them that they will never raise the Vet cap again or somebody's gonna drop a nuke on their office.

I'm loving the new content but I'm really hating this grind-fest they have installed, I have a job with a family so can not grind 10 hours a day plus for this stuff... I'm already being left behind in CP because I don't put the time in some others do so looks like I'm sitting this one out...

...Have you not learned anything ZOS about grinding?!? We don't like grinding, some of at least!

I'm a paying sub and have been since day 1 so please give us something more our money because right now the experience gain you get for subbing does not help us catch the daily players.

    <sigh>
