Why do Guild Tabards cost so much?

It almost seems like a guild is punishing it's members if they require them to buy/wear the guild tabard.
(This affects "smaller guilds" much more than "mega-guilds".)
I have been buying tabards for some of my members if I know they just cannot afford it due to their level.
But, this gets expensive for me...meaning I spend all my personal gold helping my members "suit up" instead of being able to increase my personal bank space.

If a guild allows low level players to join many of them simply cannot affor to buy a tabard.
Perhaps ZOS could lower the price?

Or ZOS could let the gold spent to buy the tabard go into the guild's bank....not into some mysterious "ZOS Offshore Bank Account".
That way a guild could choose to either count that gold towards a member contibuting towards hiring a guild trader, or refund the gold to the member.

Yeah, I am only thinking about myself, and my members.
And, I am sure there is some "rhyme & reason" to the cost.
I admit that.

How much do guild tabards cost? About 2k? Even a brand new, just-installed-the-game player can afford that in an hour or so.

I think they are quite expensive as well. What we do is offer tabards to members and use the guild bank money to purchase them. I'd like to see them be less pricey though, when someone is brand new and starting out - it's just not feasible for them to spend their meager hard earned gold on a cosmetic item

[EDIT] Above post wasn't there when I came into the thread. It's not necessarily that 2k is ridiculously hard to get (although, I personally found it tough) - it's that there are so many more "smart" things to spend gold on early on rather than cosmetic items.

If they decide to skip spending gold on anything else. I've got thousands of hours into this game and have accumulated less than half a million in gold. There are so many gold sinks in Tamriel that we have DEFLATION in the game rather than inflation. Prices drop on everything, materials, items, etc. That's because there isn't enough gold and players are forced to undercut and sell at the lowest prices just to sell anything at all.

Imagine having a ton of alts and not being organized enough to ever remember where you left your tabard, so you buy one to keep in the inventory of each alt... Mind you, the guilds that I'm in don't require the use of tabards - I just like to wear mine for guild events.

Sure, if you're playing a Khajiiti or Bosmer Nightblade and thieving is in your blood go for it. I do not claim to speak for anyone else.

Many "older MMORPG Players", like myself, take being part of something more seriously than just looking at it like just another form of "friend list".

And, though my guild isn't one, there are "roleplaying" guilds.
They might require a player to be "in uniform" when doing "Guild Group Activities".
It is bad enough we cannot trade dyed armors so that this type of guild can actually have "guild colors" and a "uniformed" look due to lower leveled members lack of access to many of the dye colors.
I would like to have a Guild Amorer that can make armor sets, dye them the Guild Colors, and then give them out to members...and, like I said, my guild isn't even a "roleplaying" guild. (Though we do accept, and have, "roleplaying" members. It just is not required to be a member.)

    I will say it again...

Loot areas that don't have Guard presence and problem solved. Quite a few Taverns provide ample container quantity and have no guards in them so all you have to watch for (if you fail at stealth that is) is the NPCs attacking you for getting caught too frequently.

Currently the big Tavern in Rawl'kha is my stomping ground so Aldmeri players I would recommend steal from here as there are 2 Safebox spawns, probably about 3 dozen containers total, and absolutely no guards!

    Funny thing about that..

The only guild tabard I have avail to buy is from a guild that kicked me over a year ago.

Sadly, you can't dye armor unless you're wearing it which would then bind the armor to you, not to mention that many dyes are tied to achievements and not everyone might necessarily have your guild colors.

The tavern in Rawl'kha is not readily accessible to new characters. You'll be around level 40 by the time you hit it in normal game play. At that point you shouldn't need to steal just to afford a 2K tabard. But at level 10 in Auridon that's another story.

If you're good at dodging mobs as you travel Rawl'kha is definitely accessible. Simply go to Skywatch in Auridon, take a boat to Grahtwood, travel to the Northwest part of Grahtwood to access Malabal Tor, then travel to the Northeast part to get to the Trading Post place that has a gate to Reaper's March and from there Rawl'kha is in the center of that region. Went there with all of my alts who were/are below Lv10 with no problems.

We're giving advice on moneymaking not Guild Tabard purchases alone lol and we won't blame you for not wanting to go criminal just to make some quick gold in fact I have friends that do not want to be criminals at all but it's still an option regardless. Many "older MMORPG Players", like myself,

For the same reason that "many people shop at wal-mart" and still I only speak for myself about what I wish they sold there. ;)

There can be "many" of something without "one" having to claim that all think as he/she/it does.

I used the word "many" because I have read numerous places about how "having five guilds reduces loyalty to every guild" in ESO. (I have no opinion on that subject yet. I am giving it some time for me to get used to it.)
"Many" of the people I have "talked" to about that subject are a bit "older"...meaning around my age. (43)
In this usage of the word "many" I am refering to a subset in which a "larger than 50%" number of the people I have personally "talked" to feel a certain way, and are around my personal age.
However...I would still only speak for myself, and let them speak for themselves.

What it boils down to is there are a couple (in this case that words means "two") of ESO forum users that have a very bad habit of posting af if they spoke for everybody for a certain subset of players.
I tried to make it fully evident I am not doing that.

    Now, the real question...

Who the frell gets so worked up over the word "many"?
I didn't use the word "most".
Now that I would understand getting worked up about...since it is hard to prove that "most" of any group feels any certain way.
Some people don't even know how they, themselves, feel about some subjects. ;)

    In any case....

You're worried about a 2k layout, I'm in a few guilds all who charge members 2k a week or are kicked ... So that they can maintain a guild store , maybe if more people sold stuff at reasonable prices more taxes would be earned and the guilds would become self sufficient

Trading guilds are a different animal, and shouldn't really be compared to more traditional guilds.
