Tips for playing a Magicka Templar

Have created a new toon of of a Templar concentrating on healing and she's upping magicka.

At this point she's only level 6, but she has the first 2 levels of healing and the first two levels of solar/fire offense and she has the javelin.

She does have a restoration staff, but I currently have her equipped with dual swords the moment.

She's Daggerfall.

Should I be concentrating on more offensive weaponry on this build or is what I'm doing okay?

you will level out that skill line way before you reach end game, so just keep skills on the bar from every skill line so the skill lines all level to 50 and make sure you swap weapons often for they get levels to 50 too and you might wanna just switch to a different type once the other/s reach level 50 just so you have more options when end game.

also make sure you have atleast 1 of each armor type for all those get leveled to 50 while you are questing :D

and once you get to a high level and are ready to be the most amazing healer you can be you will have so many options open to you because almost every skill line will be max level 50 and you will be able to tweek and play with how you want your healer to be

So now, at low level (only @ 6), does anyone have any suggestions?

I had thought to start swapping offensive vs. healing once I get to 15, but I just want to make it to 15 without getting frustrated or bored.

well on my templar i have 2 javelin skills, 1 sun skill and the ultimate, 2 heal skills.

and i am using sword and board and 2 handed as my weapons i just turned level 15.

what i do is just shoot a sun ball at the enemy and than throw a javelin and if they arent dead or close to it i just light hit them

or if its a group i will just spam multi javelin thrust skill and than light attack until dead.

im having a blast doing this and what i said on my first post.

What you're doing is fine. Even as a primary healer for groups/dungeons you can stick with what you're doing. The only issue you might have is with magicka regen. So that should be your primary focus gear wise.

Just spam piercing sweep. Thats literally all you have to do while leveling.

It's surprisingly easy to play a magicka Templar now. With the self-heals from javelin you can pretty much faceroll anything at your level. For me the balance is 5:1 on magicka vs. health in attributes and putting magicka enchants on every piece of armor. I go with magicka reduction on the jewelry. My current Templar is V7 and I can run public dungeons solo in VR4 zones without breaking a sweat. I rarely, rarely, have to switch to my healing staff for a burst of healing especially with Repentance (which you unlock later in the game).

As long as you always keep breath of life on your bar everything else is up to you. BoL is the morph of the first skill in the healing tree. It's a skill you get very early and should stay with you forever.

The only other "mandatory" Templar skill is Radiant Oppression but that's for damage.

Cool! I actually do have my first morph already, but I haven't looked at them yet. I'll need to when I get home tonight.

    Thanks for the tip.

Starting out get the spear ability, self heal, nova or the spear ultimate, puncture, and the spear throw...that's what I rock a sword and board temp.

BoL heals 3 people at a time instantly. It's a bit expensive but it's the only multi-person insta heal in the game, and it auto targets. On a side note I love the Ultimate in that healing line but most people don't, but almost everyone loves repentance. I'm a VR3 and still rock 2 of the 3 of them. I only removed repentance yesterday. I outgrew that one.

There is another reason for going DW or sword and board -- you can get the third effect on the second set of crafted armor. I'm limiting my Templar by being 2H (she's a Nord, they're partial to 2H weapons) but I can only get two effects from my Magnus set. Unless I want to give up the 8% magicka reduction from my Seducer set. And that's not happening. At some point I'm going to have to break my role playing and give Buriska two swords or maybe a shield to get that extra effect, dammit. It's not like I use any of the 2H skills so I won't be losing anything. I just like the way she looks carrying that big old sword.

If you don't use any of the skills in the 2 handed weapon, I suggest switch. Temps are so limited on close combat attacks. My first bar is puncturing sweeps, puncture(s&b would love a better stam attack), blazing shield, immovable(heavy), and the shield bash one(in of course s&b), with the spear ultimate. My 2nd bar is just supportive repentance, purify, breath of life, the offensive speed boost morph, the ultimate heal, things like that.

I was actually thinking about going to duel skill line for better stam attacks, but I love my shield bash

Choose between a magicka or stamina build. If you carry 2x swords to boost your spell power, it is good. If you want to be a magicka templar and use dw skill line then you will loose out a lot on dps.

Destro + resto staff are pretty much the mandatory for magicka builds to learn, however most dps roles use 2x destro staffs or destro staff + dw. DW for the bar you slot class skills on, to gain more spell power and extra set buff, and destro staff on the other hand for weapon skills.
Reason why dw boosts spell power: ESO logic.

Since you are pretty low level, then here is a list of skills to focus on:
-Puncturing Sweep on single targets and multiple targets.
-Breath of Life as the AMAGAD IMMA GONNA DIE button you press, and it magically saves your life.
-Restoration staff - you make heavy attacks with it and you gain a little magicka back, in case you run low on that resource.

<< That is actually all you need as a templar while you quest, everything els is a luxury, fun & giggles or needed for group play at lvl 10+.

    Cool! Great suggestions.

Question though - why does a 2H weapon boost spell power? Does dual wielding do the same thing? If not, I'll switch over to a two handed since I haven't put anything in to weaponry yet.

    Thanks much!

AFAIK a 2H doesn't boost your spell power I just use it because it looks cool. ;D
