Mounting / Dismounting on the wrong side

This will look like an unimportant thing, but for a horse-rider like myself it is not :p

How come we mount and dismount our horses on the wrong side ?
I mean, in real life we always mount and dismount our horse on the left side, but here in ESO we do it on the right side ... is there a reason for this or did the devs just threw it at random and unluckily happened to be wrong ? ;)

What is the real-life reason for mounting on one particular side?

Tradition or from the way the horses are trained? The design of the saddle/stirrup? Or is it as simple as most people being right-handed - and by extension, right-footed - and thus preferring one side as a general whole?

Seriously, I really want to know now.

Historically, because sword hangs on the left side.

@ZOS_KaiSchober actually asked this to the animation director in the last ESO Live. The answer was something along the lines of "maybe the animator was left-handed" and "we try animations from all angles, I guess that one was first, and it stuck". Both of those are paraphrased, but the essence, to me, is basically that they chose at random, and they chose wrong.

Yes, like Vostorn said, the soldiers wore their swords on the left side (it's easier to take with the right hand this way), so they had to mount on the left side of the horse so they could raise their right leg and not hurt the horse ;)

So the devs are actually aware that they chose the wrong side then ?
Well, they had a 50% chance to be right and a 50% chance to be wrong ... too bad ... I guess I'll have to live with that :p

But I dual wield swords? Guess I need to jump up over the horse's ass.

It's clear that people at ZOS involved in the creation of horses never had any contact with real horses.

ESO should give the option to choose what "hand' you are, if you are left handed, you get on the right... if you are right handed, you get on the left. Then they could just flip all the animations.

I know it's not THAT simple, but it should still be an option. These little things are more important than most people realize. It helps the player relate and feel a connection to the game which fosters loyalty and longevity of play.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

Well it's a fantasy world. All you have to do is come up why in this world they use the right side. It's not like they are in Europe during the Renaissance. Just because something is one way in our world a fantasy world can be something different.

Well back in the olden days left handed people were considered evil. Maybe there is something to that.

"Left-handed" also refers to spiritual traditions such as Tantra, where practitioners use traditionally "profane" activities to achieve a higher state of being.

Actually play characters whose backstory include them being left-handed due to the associated symbolism.

Too bad ESO does not give me the option to actually visually display that characteristic. :(

Huh? I always get on my bike from whatever side is most convenient. In motocross, that is generally the side on which I find myself laying on the ground! :)

In ESO, since my staff is always on my back when I mount, I don't really care what side I mount from.

It doesn't concern you more than your horse vanishes every time you dismount and reappears when you call it?

They actually did just bring this up on ESO Live last episode though. Didn't really give a great reason other than what a couple have said here already.

Small dirt bikes or crotch-rockets might be different, but larger motorcycles lean to the left on their kickstand. But this explains it much better than I can:

Oh, yeah - forgot about that! My bike fell once after the sidestand sunk into the hot asphalt, and after that I always use the centerstand (no lean)!
