How to fix healing: some suggestions

Hi!

Since this great game´s beta dedicated healers have one problem: sure, you can play you want, but when it comes down to healing, roll a templar.

This is mainly because the Devs consistently underestimate the importance of a "boom" heal, as Eric Wrobel showed us in the recent interview. Yes, Steadfast Ward and its morphs are intended to replace it as Eric mentioned himself, but he also said earlier that there are encounters where the tank has to be on full health almost all the time... and as we know, in PvP, waiting for the target to fall under 50% health just to make the skill work good enough is a very bad idea in the days of radiant destruction, poison arrow and co.

Though they seem to adress the problem by a) giving Vigor and Barrier to a wider player base and b) by improving the dk´s healing abilities, some urgent problems remain, namely:

1) The random targeting: Every healer knows the situation in PvP: Your group mate needs healing, you react accordingly, and of course, you heal the wrong person, most likely a nearby leacher or Leroy who will be dead in 3 seconds anyhow.Yes, there are some healing skills which can be aimed, but yes, those are far too weak to save anyone.
Fix: auto-target healing skills now have a priority algorithm, they heal people in your own group first, and other people only if everyone in your group is above 70% health.

2) Sorcerer: the hands down weakest healer in the game.
Fix 1: new morph for Dark Exchange, restores nearby ally´s health as well
Fix 2: Twilight matriarch now heals everyone under 30% health, not only yourself. Same cooldown.
Fix 3: Conjured Ward and its morphs now affect allies as well.

3) Nightblade: some good skills, only minor improvements are to be made to be on paar with the new dk´s healing abilities
Fix 1: Syphoning attacks now restore health to nearby allies, but not to the nightblade himself
Fix 2: the Piercing Mark morph is to be replaced with Mark of the Victory: If the marked targed is killed within 20 seconds, nearby allies are healed by 37%.

In particular the last suggestion sounds overpowerered at first, but it will make fights so much more dynamic and allows different and aggressive tactics without sacrificing game balance as a whole because boss fights are largely unaffected by it. In other mmorpgs like Lord of the Rings Online, a "dead enemies gives a burst heal to the group" - skill has been shown as a good alternative for healers who don´t like to stand in the corner spamming standard heals.

    the first 2 are great actually but this one NO i can burst off about 30 or so CW one right after the other maybe more all sorcs would do is just spam this and your group doesnt take any damage, if they did do this then they would nerf the crap out of it worse then there already doing


    you make some great points, but i still just look at the game as any othere MMO in a new suit, there ARE certain classes for certain roles even though they tried and did a pretty good job at it but if you want a healer role a templar, yes you can heal as other classes but the best is templar, you want a tank role DK, yes you can tank in other classes but the best is the DK

    Its an MMO at heart and we as fans need to realize this at some point, this game did break strides in the MMO world in its dynamic combat styles, so future MMOs will learn and grow in the future

    Wow whats your problem?

    Sorc healer here.. V14, i have no problems healing any and all content in the game. inclusive VDSA, VCoA and i've had my luck solo healing SO also.

    All i got to say is "Dark Conversion" is your friend and you win.. Guys! it's unlimited Magicka!!

    The only two heals i use is "Rapid Regeneration" and "healing Ward" ... 98% of the time... sometimes i also use "Energy Orb" from undaunted skill line..

    It's a fact that templars have more tools available to them but as someone already mention the only one that isn't obtainable with other similar skills is the famous "breath of Life" ..

    Having "breath of Life" doesn't automatically make you a good healer. It just doesn't....

    Quick Siphon is not a bad skill either, lets you keep more attention on yourself and the tank because dps will be healing themselves.
