why do so many pc gamers look down their noses at console gamers I find it odd tbh

Divided attention from ZOS? I'm not sure, I think the whole "PC master race" thing is a front because they feel threatened. Either way this forum is just going to breed hateful responses so be prepared for a lot of unnecessary drama.

First of all, Zenimax screwed up by not separating the PC and console forums. The reason we shut down most console threads is because they are asking about and complaining about the exact same stuff that PC players were a year ago. It hasn't changed in a year, what makes you think those things are going to change now? We are tired of seeing topics on this forum that have been brought up a million times and are never going to change. If we had a separate console forum, we wouldn't have to put up with that anywhere near as much.

Because of the console, ZOS spent a year diverting precious resources that could have gone into making ESO better. Instead of all the content we were told was coming from Quakecom in 2014 and a stable Cyrodiil; we have a bunch of console gamers that complain they don't text chat and can't break free because of a bizarre requirement to press three buttons. It's inferior in almost every way imaginable. That's why we hate the console.

Meh. For some people they just need to feel superior to SOMEONE for some reason, whatever it is. I guess they literally had checked off every other possible aspect of their lives, looking for something they were good at, and all that is left is what device they use to play video games on.

For others, it's irritation. This is mostly, due to the path in which games get created starting to change. Example: Certain series were always at the cutting edge of technology for their time (like Elder Scrolls). This was because they were being built for the biggest, baddest PC build and then just tuned down for ports to consoles. Everyone won. Consoles got to play the game, PC players got to get the most out of their PCs. Yay.

Suddenly, game makers shifted as more people got consoles. Suddenly things like Skyrim happened, where the graphics looked to be 4-5 years old, because it was designed first for the current generation of consoles (PS3/Xbox 360) and then ported over as is to PC... which usually isn't a great port job, either. And since current gen consoles are usually equivalent to 2-3 year old budget PCs when they release, the games are... well, meh.

Finally, it's just a different culture between the two. Console players are used to single player games, small scale multiplayer games, horizontal progression, more speedy gameplay and quicker story completion, etc etc. Some PC players have felt that in their games, and what they want doesn't fit that culture. Again, more irritation.

Feel threatened by what exactly? That you can't use addons? That you can't type? That you can't rebind your keys? That you use inferior graphics? That you are stuck to a television while I can play anywhere there is an internet connection? Please enlightenment me.

You don't the problem do you? It's not like they spent their time so that it could be played on a better system. It's literally an inferior setup in every way. I'm sorry but the PS4 and the Xbox will never come close to what even a mid range gaming rig can.

I hope the PC gamers realize that they represent a tiny, tiny fraction of the game playing public. Of course the AAA games and major studios are going to release to consoles where most of the players are.

Sorry PCers, but I read GameSpot magazine every month and the only thing they release as PC exclusive anymore is inde crap that no self respecting gamer would even bother with.

Really man? You consider my OPINION that consoles hold back PC technology, specifically stating I have nothing against console gamers themselves, to be some sort of hate speech?

But it doesn't.

The average gaming PC is still on par with or less powerful than the latest console. This has always been the case.

The Mustard Racer who keeps his PC hardware up to the latest hardware tech is only going to get partial catering from a small group of PC developers who happen to add a bit of extra pizazz to their game for someone with the latest video card, but they're still aiming for the mid-range hardware market so they can actually make money.

Even if consoles disappeared, that doesn't mean that everyone with an average PC is going to rush out and spend a bunch of money upgrading it. Keeping up with PC tech with those holy grail $400 gaming rigs still calls for an upgrade every 2 years or so, whereas the console gamers will buy one system at that price or less and it lasts them 5-10 years or more.

I'm not saying people investing in high powered PC's are idiots or something, that's their choice, but they're a dramatic minority even within the PC gaming space.

I think one major divide is an underestimating of how long PC hardware can last if you're okay with lower resolutions. 4K gaming takes so much hardware to run effectively that most newer games STILL can't be run there well. Drop down to 1080p and you're doing pretty great, but still not holding 60fps on the latest hardware.

Drop down to 720p and suddenly you're locking your 120 fps with half the hardware required to even RUN something at 4K.

But again, nothing wrong with wanting the latest greatest but most gamers aren't so worried about the extra 50,000 PhysX particles and subsurface scattering on Lara Croft's butt crack.

There are over 125 MILLION PC players on steam alone, with 8-9 online concurrently at any given time.

There were a total of 20 million PS4s and 10 Million Xbox Ones sold as of March.

You realize that none of what you're mentioning is of any interest to most console players.

1) Addons? We already get addons. I'm assuming you mean mods. True. We don't get mods (okay, XBoxers do get some), but, if the content is good enough, frankly, who cares?
2) Inferior graphics? You are kidding, aren't you? With the new systems and the HD TV's out today, I don't even notice a difference between them and I've played both.
3) Can't rebind your keys? What on earth does that mean? So you can make all the buttons work exactly how you want them to? On many games, you actually can. Besides, that's why it's called adjusting to new mechanics. I'm a long time gamer and can tell you the ES games, DA games, DD game and many others are all different. It takes you what, like 20 minutes to adjust? No biggy.
4) You're stuck to a television and can't play anywhere else. So? Most of us have lives: you know: jobs, family, hobbies, sporting activities, etc... You do realize that there are things like the PSP that we can use if we really, really, really need to play a game. Hey! We could even use our smart phones. We don't need to be playing games ALL the time and EVERYWHERE. A life lived like that is just sad.
