Regarding Communication Options on Console

I have only seen a poll regarding the topic of console text chat prior to console release; I find this to be a problem since at the time, console only players had no way to voice their opinion (we need an account to post here, meaning we had to have purchased the game already, which was not released yet on console).

For this reason, I thought I will create a new poll. It is simple and straight forward.

Do you support adding text chat (with an option to hide the chat window) to the console versions of the game?

No. In game voice communication alone is adequate for all communication needs.

Appreciate the feedback so far for this poll. Would like more responses for sure.

Besides the obvious massive improvement to social and LFG options for players, Text chat would be a huge game changer in Cyrodiil and world pvp. To port into Cyrodiil and immediately know where the battle was by reading the zone text chat would go a long way in keeping players interested and having fun.

    Thanks for the poll o:)

Yes, naturally text chat is wanted, a poll is a great idea to show support for this idea, allow this poll to replace the original text chat discussion.

Absolutely YES. And thus far, not a surprise, the results are OVERWHELMINGLY in favor of text chat for the consoles as an option.

I'd love the option. My mic just recently had a lovely encounter with my chihuahua. It apparently was love at first site. So now I'm forced to either talk through the dreaded Kinect or message folks through the horrid messaging system through Xbox Live.

While I hate the constant LFG, ect.. I'd would love it for coordinating in PVP.

And with an option to hide it, I see no problems at all..

Most of the console players won't truly see a need for it untill a majority of them start reaching endgame and realize they have to look up a website to LFG it or try the in game group finder

im on the fence about this one.
I do think it would be a good feature although I also think it would be time consuming and slightly cumbersome.
and what if someones trying to text you but you've got your window closed.. actually scratch that one. I just realised there would be some kind of pop up informing you that you have messages waiting.

my original point stands though. without a key board and having to scroll to each individual letter would be time consuming and I can see it getting annoying.

maybe if they introduced a text chat with siri style voice recognition. so you could enter the text channel, dictate what you want written and it shows up in text form. it would be much quicker selecting each individual letter.
though I do see that raising some issues since sometimes siri thinks im speaking Japanese or something and doesn't do what I want it to.. "im sorry I don't understand GOD DAM YOUR STUPID SIRI"

and would you suggest a character limit?
for example would someone be able to text everything ive just written or would it be limited to "want to group", "im doing X dungeon care to help", "i can lend a hand" and my favourite "can I BORROW some gold" etc. etc. (borrow my ass)

    This is my signature.
    Original. Right ;p!

    Yes, text chat option

The text chat will serve a different propose. We will still use the voice chat to talk with group, guild, area but with a optional text chat there you have more options.
It's very easy to implement a spam filter so no one can spam the chat with garbage over and over, a lot of games use that.
We will have chat rooms to LFG, Trader, Guild Recruit , General, Área, Tell, etc. You can choose if you want to join a room or not.

And you can aways hide, close, turn off the chat completely and have the game exactly what it is right now.
The chat can have options to auto hide, transparency and font size, that way a "playing on TV" is not a excuse.

FF14 is the best example of it, you can customize everything there and make the game fit your style.
Every GUI element/window can be customized in size, position, transparency, text/font size, font color, hide window, unhide window, auto hide in combat, auto hide while inactive.......

Just use the Playstation app or Xbox glass app and you have voice recognition. Google and Apple has voice to text, you just need to touch the mic button on keyboard and tall to have your text written.

I find it interesting that the first three votes against console getting text chat are PC Players.
That would lead me to believe that the next three voting against it are probably the same three people but using their console accounts to vote a second time.

Just a "theory"...a "conspiracy theory", perhaps?

We really need a text chat not only in order to communicate with other players but also for the economy of this game. It's easier to find gear/armors/potions/ressources with a text chat. Otherwise we have to use trading guilds only to sell our stuff.
It's also a good thing to find a group because the group finder is not really adequate and it woould be easier to find one with text chat.

Yeah, so what. It is still a metric of support for the decision based upon users of this forum who have felt strongly enough to vote on the issue. That is 100% accurate and to me, still very interesting to see.

Right now, we actually have a better spread then the thread before console release...if I recall that was around 70/30 (pro text chat), we are currently at 87/12 (looks like rounding issue for that remaining 1).

I'm definitely hoping more people vote! So keep them coming!

I think on a console that is known for being able to use keyboards, it is a must-have. It's my understanding that FFXIV still has a text chat box?

Thanks for the thread with a poll. Glad ZoS will see numbers now.

Even to people that want voice only. Don't understand your issue, the people that are super pro text chat, won't be on voice anyway...and as you can hide the window and it would not bother you, why would you fight to have it implemented anyway. Your not affected by it, so why say we can't have it? Any pro voice player have an actual answer?

I vote yes. It would be great to have chat and different chat channels. I use the voice chat and I think it's great but only use guild chat, I would prefer not to have to have to use voice chat in area chat.
As some else mentioned it would be so much easier to arrange trades with text chat.
