Make non-Armor Clothes an overlay.

So stealing stuff from dressers and closets i keep finding some of the coolest looking non-armor clothes. Unfortunatly it takes the place of my armor instead of going over my armor. I'm not the only one that thinks this right? All i'm asking is that non-armor clothing act like diguise clothing (save for the disappearing after getting hit) and just act as an overlay. Cuz i gotta say, the "stitched shirt with cuffs". Looks way cooler then the Light armor jerkins, is this a possiblity without causing massive coding errors? I just wanna keep these clothes as "appearance" not as armor, that would make me a tad bit happier, if not then I guess I'll have to take an armor penalty and not wear a jerkin.

Nothing has been talked about in terms of changing these clothing (stolen and laundered) to not take up an armor slot and instead can be placed into the costume slot or (quite possibly onto the collections tab).

It has been recommended to ZoS and I personally sent a feedback to them regarding this.

It would be nice, but nothing is confirmed or said anything officially about the matter. I guess we just need to wait if they're going to do some changes on how these items take up armor slot.

There was another player that suggested to 'combine' these clothes so that it can be placed into the costume slot without compromising unequipping your armor. But it has been suggested and talked about :).

    Stay tuned!

How often do they roll out with updates in this game? That's a good idea, or like in FFXIV you could give stats for your armor on to other pieces. There's so much that needs to be added to this game.

[z] has heard, and like the idea of, taking 'snapshots' of your current equipment and making a costume out of it.

People mostly want it so they can wear Best In Slot and still look awesome, but it could also be used to make costumes out of the clothing, if and when it is implemented.

Seems to me, the easiest thing to do with reguards to this would be to have an 'appearance' tab, like in EQ2, anything you place into the appearance slot, is what that slot will look like, instead of what you actually have on. I would 'love' to see something like this put in, so I can tweak my characters appearance easier. I have a rogueish character that I'd love to not have to see shoulder armor on. Things like that.

I actually prefer that clothes take the place of armor. I wish clothes were a more viable garment in general, offering benefits other than armor.

I outline the idea here: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/167833/eso-tailor-a-new-merchant-and-skill-concept

Pretty much, if a player wants to wear clothes, they shouldn't get the benefits of armor.

Now, I am 100% FOR the addition of an alternate equipment toggle so a player can have two entirely different sets of equipment that they can switch between, much like a weapon swap.

So I'm not Lone then. The first time i saw this as a thing was in DC universe of the PS3 when you created a super hero. Costumes mean alot to super heros so having something that didn't go with your Façade didn't make sense so gou could just put the Appearance of previously worn peices over the actual armor so even if you were wearing The Flash's battle gear you could still look like a cowboy or a doctor. I don't know why more games like this don't do this. Until then It's function over form i guess.

They had this in Ultima Online 17 years ago... there's a lot that this game is lacking. The more I play, the more I notice. It's an ok game.

Honestly @demoonmunkay, I personally see it as being the same reason we cant fly or run up walls in ESO but you can in DCUO. Of course, costumes let you change your look in ESO so...

To solve this and to give players what they want I'm hoping ZOS allows us to buy "blank" costumes and imprint full looks onto them.

Yeah that kinda lost me too at the begining but i see what gidorick is trying to say. I'm not iteresting in the red rook bandit or the draugar polymorph unlock. I wanna be me. Though do understand realisticly that a frilly shirt can't cover up a plate armor breastplate, it's a game. I just wanna look like what i want to look like without losing the benifits of armor.

@Fartman ESO is a different game, different genre than DCUO. In DCUO you are a superhero. The costume of a superhero is important, it's part of the identity of the character. If you haven't played DCUO you can get around the world by flying, running really fast or zipping around like spiderman.

ESO is a high-fantasy world based on an existing franchise. In that franchise, the appearance of the character is dependent on the armor. If a player wants a specific look, they go find/buy/make that armor they want. I personally don't care for the fact that we can just put on costumes to change our appearance but I see the need for it in a buy to play revenue environment.

I didn't mean to confuse anyone... I was just trying to make the point that DCUO and ESO are completely different games and to expect a mechanic that is in one to be in the other doesn't make much sense. DCUO is one of the few MMOs I have actually played to end game and they are REALLY different games.

The only reason it confused me is because other games besides DCUO has this feature, like i stated earlier in the thread, Ultima Online, from 17 years ago had this feature in it.

Agree, that what Ive said to them too. They need to add some layers to the armors. Skin armors are big disgrace for this game, but little bit of layering and it could work nicely next few year easily.

I asked for the same just 4 weeks ago: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/172251/a-second-slot-for-clothes-on-each-armor-slot around the time I was also asking for a preview option for crafting armor. None of the mods/devs reacted to that, I guess any changes that concern armor/clothing won't happen..

The crown store is mentioned alot in that thread. Theres the talk of making a "costume" type disguise in that thread too, which i can understand as fair too. But the crown store only offers a few thing that actually help the player. The rest of it you can find in the world if your patient enough. That being said if they made Blank Costume "tickets" you would need to be able to find them or buy them from in the game world and not just the Crown store. Not everyone is willing to pay for a costume ticket and would feel cheated and would complain until it became a free thing, which might take a few monthes but it would happen. This game has the potential to be the next WoW. Played by millions for years and years if they can get everything sorted out just right and starts making a ton more servers to combat the lag. But that's off topic, I wanna look pretty.

I agree, it should be off-Crown-Store. Like I suggested, a second slot over the armor slots would be all that is needed to get it to work, and everything would be fine^^

I imagine it like the normal slots plus maybe a smaller one in the top right corner within the main slot where we can put the non-armor clothing in. Then these clothes should just be treated like a disguise/costume with the difference that we won't lose them after a quest.

I still hope they'll add this option, no matter how :)

I really would like this as well, I like the clothing the townspeople wear much better than any armor I see on any characters.
I don't see how this breaks reality/immersion for people, but on the other hand being able to swim, much less spring, in heavy or medium armor doesn't. Real armor would chafe/cut/pinch so bad you'd have the kind of skin sores/cuts/rashes that make you not want to move that part of your body for hours, even days. I can't even tell if heavy vs. medium vs. light armor changes your sprinting or swimming speed at all, but I can tell you as a pretty decent swimmer that even a cotton shirt slows swimming down a lot, and trying to hold a 5 kg brick in the water is incredibly taxing--our characters would all be drowning in medium or heavy armor, not to mention most armors in the game would be ruined.
What would be best is either the clothing outfit slot, or (if you want more realism), your character automatically changes into a chosen clothing outfit whenever you enter a city's limits. Kings and law enforcement have never been in the habit of letting citizenry stroll around armed and protected with armor. It would be realistic, especially with the war going on, that armor was prohibited inside a city.

@fancytuna8 I know right? People who complain that the immersion would be offsetting don't really think about how heavy armor would make you sink like a iron bar while thrying to swim in it. It the immersion is what you want then take off your armor everytime you need to go swimming and don't put it back on until you come back to the place where you took it off at (because you wouldn't be able to take it with you) and then see how much realism you want in a game.
However all the realism can be explained away by this one link... Magic.. Oh thats right theres magic in this world isn't there? And most important, "Experimental" magic. Mages and sorcerers constantly looking for ways to make life somewhat easier for their fellow man. Why not a "Camoflague charm" you can buy from mystics? They always seem to have some fun stuff. Or maybe help craft one and as a reward you are allowed to buy more of them at a reduced price (making them unnessasry to sell for obscene prices at the trade stalls.) blam, problem solved, lets meet back here again in say a week and discuss why Motifs seem to be selling at 5000 gold when you can find them for free in baskets and dressers.
