No text chat for consoles is a hilariously bad choice

Source for the 90%? If none is forthcoming, I will have to assume you simply made something up.

Voice Chat is fine, what's needed is the PB to actually try and talk. I've heard some great convo's going in guilds and in area

Problem is mostly the PB .. text is easier, more convenient etc because they can't be ***** to take the time to learn to game as is.

It used to be a game was launched and the PB learnt how to do x,x,z

Nowadays it's a game is launched (or beta'd) and the PB then tries to alter it to them
    PB = player base?

Text is easier...because you can have multiple conversations - across the map, across faction, across guilds - without having to talk over somebody. You don't need to worry about missing something that's going on in your guild because you happen to be in group chat.

Of course the flip side is that voice should be used for instance communication....no point trying to grab your keyboard and type a message a about the incoming attack - by the time that you've done that it's probably too late.

Now I'll stand back and wait for the other text thread regulars to make an appearance...because we all know that one more thread full of circular arguments is just what ZOS need to reach tipping point and comment on this issue.

Yeah sure, I'm sure so many people will be using their windows phones or a keyboard on their couch to use text chat.

This is something I really would like to explore.
When I play on PS4, I usually can't use the Voice chat because I'm streaming (and so chatting all the time)
I try to use the premade emotes, but i've seen no one answering me so far. I really try to socialise though...so far it's a bit weird. But i'll not say my final thoughs before to explore this new way of communicating.

While I do not disagree with poeple being unhappy about no text chat, I think we really need to try first, explore and discover this new way of playing a game and socialise. this all new and we tent to confine ourselves in our old habits. let's think outside the box and try out different things before to blame and give up, shall we?

    Wow. Wonderfully put.

Clinging to old-fashioned methods better suited for PC, is silly when confronted with a new console experience.

My friend has it for console and got a refund the day after, he didn't know there would be no way to type to others or to sell items like an actual mmo.

Me as a pc user could totally understand his frustration, it just blows me away that they couldn't have a txt chat option, even games made in 95 have text chat, ultima, everquest etc, this is the only game on the planet that doesn't have txt chat, that's supposed to be an mmo.

Yeah I brought back every console game that doesn't include old fashioned text chat and now I have no games.

Remember when gta added the text box?

Oh and call of duty has a very slick one, huh?

Controller and headset is the common ground we all share on console and annoying people with typed messages every five minutes will only get you raged at, IMO.

I know exactly what you mean - I just can't fathom how DCUO and FF:ARR function with all the times that people stop attacking things to read and type messages to each other.

Area voice chat sucks. Have You ever tried to talk in an Area with 50 to 100 People? Its a garbled mess of pure Noise.

This could be Remedied by the Following (Citywide Text Chat)
    =* Trade.
    =* Dungeon Pug.
    =* Guild Invite Chat.

Make the Text Chat a Toggle Option.

Text chat may be old fashioned but it's still considered a standard feature for a reason. As noted many, many times, text chat allows you to still use voice chat while communicating with an entire guild, trade chat, area chat, etc. Having these conversations simultaneously using only voice chat is currently impossible. Voice chat is nice but it will never replace text chat when communicating with dozens of other people is required.

I'm afraid I have to completely disagree.

Every console comes with a headset as standard. If you choose not to use the headset for whatever reason, then you have made your choice.

PC's on the other hand, tend to not come with headsets out of the box so text is needed there.

Pretty much. It's that simple ... I type when I play this on PC but on Xbox I speak cause it's a lot easier and waaay faster

Gee, didn't realize GTA or COD were MMO's. So were should have ferraris and machine guns in ESO since they are the same type of game?

Has nothing to do with text chat and everything to do with buff servers. Cyrodiil would be more active if ZOS removed one of the buff campaigns so people couldn't gate camp and farm dailies.

I've given up on him and black smurf. They're just so hell bent on not allowing people to enjoy the game in a manner that is different from the way they like it.

The last official word on this that I hear was nothing to do with console being seen as a more voice only platform, it was internal testing deemed the controller cumbersome to use.

Voice chat can be faster and easier for some things but for others it's nice to have a clear message and not a shouting match or having to talk over some loud, rude person.

Does seem like it would be helpful at times considering you can barely talk sometimes with everyone going at once but the same problem could arise with the text chat too.

Oh, it certainly can, but at least you have the option of simply going back up the log and re-reading things. No need to ask people to repeat themselves or anything...

Obviously not... In DCUO, text chat is an essential tool for trading, looking for a group and COMMUNICATION. Literally everyone uses it that plays the game at a capable level.

Again, maybe you shouldn't comment on subjects that you know absolutely nothing about with your made up statistics

So many shy people too scared to talk into their mics. I myself have never had a problem walking into to the crafting stations of any city and selling items. It's amazing what happens when you actually use the microphone.
