Why no ESO app?

I came from playing Destiny a lot on my PS4 and loved the idea of having an official app. The app showed my current bounties (or quests) and my inventory. Also, it gave me the ability to communicate with my guild and even move items around between characters without having to sign in and out all the time.

An ESO app with your map which shows areas you have discovered and your achievements and things like that would be great. You could read your in game mail and reply when you're away from your console.

We've brought this up before. Hopefully, it'll happen so you console guys don't get totally screwed by no add-ons.

I hope we get this at some point to but pretty much everything's been on the back burner as they tried to get console versions released and working. I would like to use it to shop both crown and guild stores while away from home.

Destiny sold 10m copies, although the game is not that great(my opinion), the company know what they're doing. Problem is, Zenimax is struggeling with the basics. Just look at the group finder, it's a really important function on console, yet it's broken and has been broken for months. ESO also sold far less than Destiny so they don't have the economic freedom.

Don't expect a app with chat and item functionality anytime soon.

I never played ESO on PC and I'm only level 9 on PS4 so I haven't tried the group finder. I'll have to look forward to that soon I guess. Ah well, we can all dream

While it's a nice to have thing, I'd be seriously pissed if any men power and/or development time would be invested in such a thing at this point in time. There are tons of things more important than a app for ESO imho.

It would likely be a new team. They could also contract it out and hire a team to maintain it. There's no way they would put the game development team on it.

The game development would have to code some sort of port to allow the app to communicate with the game data.
Also, every dime spend on this is not spend on developing new content, fixing bugs, getting bigger servers.

So while the developent team is not 100% involved, there is only 1 pot of money in the end and everyone takes their part from that.

They already told, and that was from Paul Sage himself at the guild summit, that they will NOT do an app because they don't have the ressources to do it.

Ehhh....the game programmers would eventually have to be involved as well as some of the networking staff. But there would have to be some extra money tossed into the project.
But I have to disagree on the second part. Knowing Zenimax, they would charge for the app. And every tool they develop for console version is an extra tedium and frustration they mitigate. Which will translates to more active players and eventually to more money.

The problem is that "official responses" are patently unreliable around here. Guess I'll make the list when I get home.

As much as this would be awesome, I don't see it happening. I mean, you can't even reply to mail IN GAME (without an addon) why would they spend time on an app that could.

Would be cool to have some management capabilities but I second @Gidorick #truth... would rather have more content than a cell phone app.
