Offline Mode!

So... I was thinking... what if we had exactly what I propose in the title? An offline mode would eliminate queue/log in times. It would lighten the load on the servers so that those who want to play online still can, without the obscenely long wait. Those who are tired of people coming in and stealing kills or doing dungeons for them, would be satiated. But there will always be the option of going online to play, with or against people. And then there will be less refunds to worry about. What say ye?

No. An offline mode would mean that they'd have to put more things client-side. Things that would allow people to hack the code and create a ton of cheats.

This is not a single player game. This game involved player interaction and therefore an MMORPG - requires internet. If you want a single player offline mode, invest in a single player Elder Scrolls game (I heard there might be another in the works?).

An MMO needs to be carefully designed to accommodate an off-line mode that intertwines with an online mode. Unfortunately this MMO was not designed with that in mid and implementing such a feature without massive changes to the game's mechanics would ultimately destroy the integrity of the game.

Wait let me get this straight you want to play Elder Scroll ONLINE offline? Yeah that defeats the whole purpose of the game AND as @UrQuan said it would allow people to figure out cheats.

Offline mode would mean your character would have to be saved locally.

Locally saved character files means people can find a way to open those files and hack them.

    Would be a big mistake.

First thing I thought of. It's just aaking for people to find some way of cheating via save file modding.

I would just give us the option to be required to be connected to the internet while playing alone in our own instance. Since looking at large numbers of players or even one or two in some cases results in the whole game falling apart and kicking entire parties out of dungeons and etc. Not sure if that's a server issue or a network issue though...

...just got an error 301 btw.

And just like that all of the 'HACKERS PARADISE' comments came to a sudden stop and everybody rethought what they said just for an instant before sticking to their "NO SINGLE PLAYER MODE..." And since you'd still be connected to the internet... it would still technically be called ESO.

Just play oblivion while you wait. Identical premise anyway. If you are required to connect to the internet to play them all of the login writes would still wait, most likely get longer. Each player would have their own game world rather than sharing one. You would exponentially grow the phasing to the point where it would be chapter to just make a separate game.

Go play Other Elder Scrolls game if you want offline mode. It would be basically pointless to make an MMO have an offline mode....afterall the O stands for online last I checked....

    Phantasy Star Online....

Don't get me wrong, I am completely against offline mode. I'm only saying that just because a game has "online" in its the title, that doesn't mean it can't have offline.

Eh... I wouldn't hate the idea. Seems kind of silly though.

Not only that, but the M & the other M stand for Massively & Multiplayer last i checked, and I'm not sure how you'd manage that without being online...

Only "offline" mode would be a private server similar to Freeshard servers for DAOC and the like.

I remember the D3 forums on PC launch. Kiddies were asking for an offline version there too. It generated many, many magical responses. :)
