Hehe, age old questions return as release hits console. Some decisions were made with TES purists in mind. They prefer a clean UI for immersion and having the numbers as an option surely isn't fair because it would give advantage to those that actually want them thereby 'forcing' those who ddon't want them to use them anyway. Knowledge is power afterall.

But it could easily be a option you could turn on or off, even be off by default and that'd completely destroy everything you just wrote, so surely the "forcing" ordeal you spoke of wasn't a factor in the least.

How dare you ask for more options!

Personally, I would hate to play without knowing exactly how much damage or healing I'm doing and how a gear change affects that.

Nope, an option isn't good enough. The purists feel persecuted because by choosing to have it turned off they fear they will be inferior to those with it on because they won't have the knowledge that those who use it do.
Therefore it becomes a non option because they must have it turned on to keep up. They much prefer it not be there at all to keep the playing field fair on their terms.
Essentially its the same argument for why we cannot have dps metres.
Immersion. That dirty word that has plagued "next-gen" gaming in the recent years. Whoopie...

Really? I was like "I miss Wykkyd's toolbar.. and true exploration.. and and *list off 20 other addons*"

It's not that kind of game.
Get into the immersion. Get into the mindset of trying things out and seeing how effective you are, rather than having a number tell you. Just try to get used to it. Pretend you are your character and learning to fight, not just knowing it because you read it on Google. You'll have more fun this way, if you get in the game.

No way for players to tell if respecc'ing or trying new builds is better or worse, without the damage numbers.
Stupid. Just stupid.
Also, dumb.
