No Chat in ESO XBOX one....Get ready for bad reviews....

Ungodlyomenb14_ESO
Hey guys lets make a MMO ELDER SCROLLS and Lets limit the ways to communicate. Who ever thought of this needs to be fired. This is one of the worst Idea's I have ever Heard of. And lets not blame everything on console Limitations....It seems never winter pulled it off yet ZOS cannot? Very Interesting. 55+ GB download.....lol and only one day to download it? ....due to console limitations....Again really... North americans cant log in....Hmm let me guess...console limitations.....yeah I see where this is going.

Guys Come on. PC launch was horrible. You had well over a year to get this right. Now your going to throw away money if you dont get this together. A second bad review is very bad for you. This isnt looking good.

Add Text chat guys...do not wait. Get it ready ASAP. the interfface chat isnt so bad but still alot talking at once in zone...like being in a mall and everyones talking to you.

Yeah Neverwinter did it good... Only racial slurs and profanity in the text chat.
The voice chat leaves much to be desired, but seeing how Neverwinter's text chat is they have a large job to implement a text chat properly.

Chat will come its inevitable. I'll probably put my account on hold until it does to be honest, or at least not start playing in earnest. Playing a MMO without it just isn't practical, no matter how minimalist it makes the interface look. It limits so much that we take for granted like trading outside the auction house, joining guilds, forming groups

Chat should have been a no brainer but I would also like a quick mute toggle for voice chat for those of us who want to use Kinnect. If I'm going to use voice chat regularly I'm not wearing headphones for the hundreds of hours I'll be spending in ESO and currently XB1 has no way to mute Kinnect. So everything can be heard - phone calls, private conversation, kinnect commands, etc. The only way to mute it is to leave the chat channel or go into the XB1 settings and turn in-game chat off.

I wonder if they'll make other popular features available that previously came from addons. like mini-map, shard and lore book trackers, scrolling combat text, and class helpers that provide some indication when skills proc?

It may get bad reviews.... but it wont be because of text chat exclusion. Except maybe from PC (eliteist) reviewers, which honestly shouldn't be reviewing a console game. Or at least not based on PC standards that aren't comparable to console.

As to the stuff mentioned above...
I've heard absolutely NONE of this stuff that the "text chat" implementers always TT about!

Mostly its been SILENCE while running around Tamriel. But every once in a while you'll hear some conversation as you approach an area where people are talking or asking for advise or questions.

The "text chatters" always whinge that you'll only be hearing loud chewing, raging 12 year olds, horrible music and/or screaming children/dogs in background....

But that simply just isn't the case here. (Although there will always the EXCEPTION)!

It is defintely not the norm in ESO. (Now, if you're talking about COD/HALO of course.... But in that case, you go in knowing what to expect.)

Anything to justify NEEDING text chat, because most of them are coming from PC where text is the norm based on the tech when pc gaming was introduced, it being easy to use due to included keyboard and a vocabulary of quickspeak that arose around it that they're comfortable with. And yet, most high end guilds and clans all have their own vent/mumble, etc. so they can effectively do what? Oh yeah, talk to each other.

Voice has been with console gaming from day one and consolers are more familiar with and used to using their voice to comminucate in-game, then typing everything out.

Text is poorly implemented in the Neverwinter port and barely used at that. Other then "D5 up in 10" or the like. Otherwise, it's just spam that flies by at breakneck speed that nobody can even read, let alone act on.... Useless!

And I laugh every time I hear the whole "Text chat is just so necessary in mmo's" or "the only way to communicate, blah, blah, blah", and especially this gem.... "It's just so much easier to do".

Because we all remember as infants, the first words we ever spoke texted... mama/dada!

What the H%^& could be an easier way to communicate then the way we've all (or some  ) have done since before we were out of diapers!?!?!

We may very well have to brace for Bad Reviews for ESO (as the OP stated).... But it wont be for lack of text chat.

ESO seems to be getting another chance of being reviewed by the gaming media, which doesn't happen that often.

Sadly, they insisted to repeat the launch fail.

ZenZuki, I believe text chat is a must. Trading and selling, communicating with a guild, and finding a group in Cyrodiil. You mean to tell me its going to be easy to run a 24man group with everyone talking? No chance. As someone said before: MMOs live because of communication. The way the voice chat works in this game takes away from all communication. Add a text box and turn it off if you don't want to see it. Every console MMO has one. It is a very important part of this game.

You can voice party up with 24 others and it works fine. If you find that there is a person in your group that hasn't sorted out the proper way to talk with others in a group setting, boot them and find a replacement. There should never be 24 people just blathering over each other anyway if your doing it right. Most people don't communicate by just screaming over each other.

The trading and the selling of stuff is handled through guilds/traders, there's no need to run around screaming your wants and desires all over the place.

There is already a group finder. And there is already quick bars for the most common things you would want to whisper/say.

Not sure how "voice chat" takes away from all communication in this game... hmmm

But honestly, if they added the text box in a future update with the ability to turn it off, I wouldn't mind. I'd just turn it off and move on.

But that's conversation for another day/thread, as this was about reviews of ESO.

And speaking of ESO.... I'm off to enjoy some time Tamriel now.

    Peace.

It is pretty difficult to find a 24 man when no one uses group finder. Very simple to have the option to type "LFG" in Cyrodiil, and you get an invite in a heartbeat. I spent two hours queued up for group finder in PvP tonight... no a soul.... didn't talk to anyone the entire time, and they were sad looking 30v30 battles. Must encourage chat on both ends: voice and text. Also, not everyone on PS4 uses voice chat, meaning their mindset is not to join a group because they aren't going to be talking, giving you no "team" mentality in pvp. Also, deaf people play video games.

Not everyone wants to voice chat you know? Not everyone is comfortable with it. Not everyone wants to have a headset on their head to play the game and get basic functionality. I don't want voice chat removed - I'm glad it's there and kudos is due for having the balls to put it in - but I don't want it as the sole option.

I talk to my friends on XBL, obviously, and I don't mind voice chat with guild mates. But personally I'm not enthused about chatting randomly to people nor do I want to hear random chatter, and would much prefer the option to text chat at times.

Everyone has a smart phone these days and the Xbox Glass app offers easy access to a keyboard. So for the odd times when text chat is needed or preferable what is the problem?

Comparing the voice chat to other games like CoD is a pretty poor comparison. CoD is pretty much silent these days as is Battlefield 4. 10 years ago when the 360 first came out (CoD2 days) everyone was using their headset, these days very few can be bothered unless they are playing with friends and they are usually partied up.

I assume most anti-text-chat forum posters play on the NA server.

So let me shed some light on the fact that there are like 40 different official languages throughout Europe. Nearly all players know English to some extent and are able to communicate effectively via text. But not so many of them can speak it on the same level and/or feel comfortable using voice chat.
