"Unable to connect to game server. Please make sure you have a valid internet connection."

  • Elements001
Yeah, I agree. I tried out the WiFi and it seemed to work for a bit but then straight back to my connection getting dropped out of nowhere. I also encountered more issues with NPCs not spawning correctly on WiFi so I wouldn't recommend it. It seemed as though I got into the game quicker, but I'm sure that was just a coincidence.

I think I've given up trying to fix or change anything on my end. I'm just gonna have to try and enjoy what little I can until they come up with a fix or workaround for this. Its a great game, its just a shame so many people are having such widespread issues. I thought I'd feel better knowing I wasn't the only one experiencing the issue, now I almost feel worse knowing its probably not going to be resolved very quickly.

Oh well though, all in time I suppose.

I've been running wireless the entire time and I have had all the same issues you all have had, I don't thing changing to wifi will work guys. If it does, awesome I wish my would. I've stared at nothing but a loading screens with maybe 2 hours of play time in the last 2 days. Complete bull crap in my opinion, and like some of you have said no response from the ESO service team even though prior to sending an email they tell you it's going to a real person. I would love to hear from this real person some time. I've sent at least 3-4 emails made multiple tickets and nothing but the same "we're working on it" auto response.
Wish they would fix this problem so we can just play the game already...come on.
  • Elements001
I received one correspondence from them on day one telling me to:

    1) switch to an Ethernet cable

    2) forward all necessary ports

    3) contact Microsoft of the issue continues

I've done all except for contact Microsoft because everything else has been working flawlessly(well as flawless as Xbox can get anyway...) on my console. I have sent on a few more emails detailing this issue though and have not received any statement back since. My tickets are still classified as open, so they aren't just closing them and ignoring people.

I honestly think they're just as baffled and frustrated as us and they probably honestly don't know what's causing the issue, otherwise I feel some sort of statement other than, "Please remain patient as demands are exceedingly high at the moment."

I don't think its just the servers, I think there is something else going on that they didn't anticipate that they still have yet to identify the root cause. In a sense I think we're all in the dark right now, gamers and coders

I eventually got myself online after trying everything suggested which did not work. It seemed to be because my NAT on my Xbox one was set to strict. I decided to reset my Virginmedia modem/router Super Hub and hey presto the NAT is now open, and I was able to log in.
I have been chucked of though today several times with out any notice. Our broadband is 152 MB connection.

What surprised me was today I received a reply from support for the ticket I put in and it basically says in future to contact Xbox as it is they that run the servers
Below is the response I received
    Cheers
    Kath

Thank you for contacting the Elder Scrolls Online:Tamriel Unlimited Team.

I am delighted to see that you have since been able to log in and play the game.

We apologize for the connection issues during the initial start of the game.

Should there be any connection issues in future, we are in this case unfortunately unable to assist since the Servers are run by XBOX Live
Please contact in that eventuality the Xbox Support. You can reach the Xbox support under the following link: www.support.xbox.com
Hopefully this will not be necessary though.

Should you have any further Queries or Problems, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Until then enjoy your time in Tamriel.

    Best regards,
    Heiko

So does anyone know if switching from Ethernet to WiFi actually helps. Also I know that's it's server based because I was able to be on for a couple hours with it not happening when the servers weren't so full and then when the servers are more full it started happening again
  • Elements001
WiFi did nothing to help tried it earlier. I also received a similar response. My Nat type has always been open, so I'm quite confused as to what's happening.

Hey I believe I have found a fix! It's kind of Janky, and it doesn't make any sense. But I've been loading up my gateway by streaming my Netflix and slowing down my internet a little and I've been playing for like 3 hours straight lol.
I'm not sure if that's it or if they have fixed the hiccups with the servers. If it's still happening to you try it! It couldn't hurt!
    Hope it helps!
  • Elements001
Nah, I just did another hard reset of modem and was monitoring my Nat the whole time up until disconnect and it stayed solid at OPEN Nat, 60mbps download 5.7upload. I'm gonna try Netflix as you said, can't hurt :)

Same here as well. It seems like during the day (from about 7am to 330pm) its not so bad. Some disconnects but bearable bearing in mind its a new release and all the issues. Once 330pm hits though its done for. I start getting disconnected in less than 3 minutes and get placed in the 15 minute queue. I've done everything possible on my end, its definitely server related.

Please Refer to my Blacksmith Manual

It's not anyones internet, it's their servers. Not Xbox Live servers, ESOs servers or something on their end is the issue. Nothing else is wrong in any way shape or form besides ESO. It's not the players fault they can't connect. Since most had no issue of this yet it's now happening to the vast majority of players. Log in: 2-15 minutes later [Kicked]/Lose connection.

Especially since no other xbox live issue is going on[Edit: Sorry there is an issue BUT.. It's just the app for Slacker Radio], No other games are having this *connection issue*.
They'll eventually do a fix, just got to wait even longer for the Beta on console to get out of its beta phase,
It's just a MMO Beta phase without the term *Beta* Smacked onto its label. Console should get used to this since they'll most likely get more and more MMOs to hit the stores for console gamers.

Not sure if any of you played Defiance when it first came out, it took almost two weeks before they got all the kinks out. Give it time and I'm sure it will be okay.

But yes, I'm having the same issues.

I only got the this awesome game yesterday and this has happened to me twice now I am guessing they are having some teething issues what it being a new release so there servers are most likely overloaded with the millions of players I am sure it will be fixed in the coming days as like most games you always get some issues to begin with.....but once they iron out these in game issue it will make gaming experience much better so just hang in there guys :)

I have comcast and am connected by Ethernet cable straight from router. Clocking perfect. FIX IT! I hate having to reconnect every 20-40 mins! This is beyond frustrating!

    That's
I have never gotten past the character upload screen, keep getting the unable to connect to game server.
4 days of countless hours scouring the internet for a solution.
I have forwarded all my ports
    have open nat
    deleted all the characters
    reinstalled the game
have good network and multiplayer connections
bought and external hard drive an moved some other games over just to make sure space wasn't an issue
    all my other games work
have gotten no help from customer service other than a form letter and a link to know issues which gave no solutions or timelines.
I am open to suggestions but I am most likely taking the game back this afternoon. Too much time and frustration for a game I can't even play.

That's rough man. I was just about to take some of those steps as well. I think next time I get dropped (10 min maybe) I'm gonna reconfigure my Xbox and ditch the Ethernet cable and try out the WiFi. Makes no sense but some of my friends have had success so I'll give it a shot.

Maybe the game is lagging so much that us players using the Ethernet cables are somehow overclockong the servers and then we get kicked due to the servers being overloaded and not able to catch up. Maybe the inherit lag in WiFi will give the servers those milliseconds they need to catch up with what were doing?

I know that sounds crazy but you get kicked endlessly like some of us have and you start thinking crazy stuff lol. Worth a shot at least, I'll get back to you guys when I find out

Please do post back to this thread if it works I've gone through all the steps as well and haven't been able to play yet
  • Elements001
The wifif didn't seem to help, but when I loaded up a movie through Netflix on my pc it (for whatever reason) actually seemed to legitimately help. O was playing last night from about 9pm to 1030pm before I got disconnected. That was a staggering improvement over being disconnected every 10-15 minutes. It could have just been coincidence, but today with no Netflix and I was dropped in less than a minute. I'm gonna load it up again and see how it goes.

Makes no sense and I still get disconnected eventually, but streaming Netflix/downloading large files on pc seems to improve the experience just enough to make it bearable. It really is a great game, when it works. I actually went out and spent $25 on crowns even though i have the worst disconnect issues of anyone I know. Says a lot about this game when its not working and I'm still willing to fork out more cash lol. I have faith, all in time:)

p.s. spending an extra $25 on crowns doesn't butter up those servers to keep you from those disconnects., but I have a horse and new race now lol. Ah, I really do like this game, as long as sometime in the next month I stop getting dropped I'll be a happy camper :)

Who knows, maybe we'll all get some crowns for our opening week woes ;)

I got a response back telling me to make sure my nat was open and ports were open. Told them they were but they haven't gotten back to me yet. It all seems random, nothing seems to really fix it. Just gotta go with the disconnects for now.

I noticed when I was in a group it seemed to be better but I still got disconnected after 2 hours.

    I believe i have a fix.

First, Make sure your NAT is open. If not, enable UPNP on your router and restart and recheck NAT.

Second, go into your routers firewall and open the Ipv4 security settings. Set to Low

Third, go into your routers firewall and open the Ipv6 security settings. Set to custom and select only to block ident port 113.

    Save and/or restart.

Obviously, lowering security settings puts you at risk so proceed at your own risk.

Hope this works for you. Good luck.

They need to get this crap fixed, ESO placing blame on the XB servers are ***, no other game or app is having this issue, it has something to do with their software. They have so many bugs right now how can they be so smug to have the balls to blame XB? They are so quick to grab our money, but to own up to their screw ups is hypocritical.

Anyone else receiving this message after 15 minutes or less, getting disconnected as well? I run my Xbox through an Ethernet cable and have no issues with any other multiplayer game (destiny, cod).

I have Comcast internet and ran a speed test that came back at 60mbps download, 5.7mbps upload, and 11ms latency. I literally have nothing else connected to the internet in my residence while playing.

I am unable to play for more than 3-10 minutes before getting disconnected followed by that error message. I'd just like to know of there's anything I can do and of others are experiencing a similar issue.

One of many log in issues I get as well, every time I try to log in no matter what day or what time, and the 5 or so times I actually was able to play I got kicked within 3-15 minutes same internet as you.

Well my fellow dropped, at least you don't have the the problem in the fit to rule quest where you can't enter a room because every time you try, you get kicked from the server. And the greatest part about this is it is only happening on the main quests.
