NAME Auction House...changing MMORPG's forever!

So I'm sitting on XBOX ONE trying to name my character and I keep getting "Name is taken...try again". A very frustrating situation that I'd easily pay money to fix.

Then it dawns on me....the NAME Auction House...

How does it work?
- Players can offer names they have reserved to the auction house in exchange for crowns or money.
- Once a player purchases the name (with crowns or cash)...ESO gets a cut of the profit
- The player who sold the name now has to change his characters name
- The player who bought the name receives a notification that allows him to either assign the name he purchased to one of his current characters or create a new character using the name he purchased

This will ensure that desirable names will not be sitting in an account collecting dust. Also, the naming auction house can be used on the official website. It doesn't even have to be put into the game. Simply select your console...purchase...done.

The only way I can see this system being abused is if companies say that all the names are taken and use false names to sell regular names under. But I doubt that would happen.

You get like 3 spaces you can use in the name... can't come up with something unique?

I don't really like the idea. I think a "first come, first serve" rule is more fitting for most games. Many MMOs free up old names after some years though, so they might be taken again and the (inactive) first character of that name has to rename.

Also: People will see this as Pay-To-Win. I don't know how yet...but they will.
I have approximate knowledge of many things.

There really is no need for unique character names in MMOs any more.

Each account already has a [UniqueID].

So the character name could be [Caracter Name[UniqueID]].

That way there could be 2000 "John Smith"s but as each one would be directly linked to an individual [UniqueID] there would be no problem.

Games that still insist on unique character names have clearly cut corners on basic data management.

Those memories come back to haunt me, they haunt me like a curse.
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true, or is it something worse.

What if the person who took the name you want doesn't want to sell?

I seriously doubt whoever got 'Aragorn' is going to be giving it up any time soon. So taunting everyone else who wants that name with the possibility they could buy it, only to find it will never be on sale, would just add a whole extra level of frustration.

It could also lead to players with popular names being harassed to sell them.

The simplest solution if the name you want is taken is to add a first name, last name or a title. Or some combination of those. It works especially well if you invent your own. Trying different languages can also help, especially if it's a relatively obscure one (I like Welsh).

    1. Only players who would want to sell their names would put them on the Auction House. If you don't want to sell your name...then simply don't put it on the auction house.
    2. How would you harass anonymous sellers? Neither their gamer tag nor any other ID has to be listed. Only the available names are listed in alphabetical order.
    3. Only the database needs to know who assigned which name...and that would be easy considering it's linked to only one account

    Great idea!

But your name will never show in game. Just your gamer tag.

So you may as well name your toon something like 1xkk2918cxk cause no one will see it...

@Bouvin the character name shows up in group chat, and on the group health/status bar.
