Console Players: Please Disable/Mute Voice Activated Mics

Please, if you're going to have area chat activated then be considerate of others and disable voice activation or, if that's not an option, mute your mic unless you need to say something at the moment. MMO players on PC who use Vent, Mumble, etc. are probably already aware of this issue and set up keybinds for PTT. Nobody wants to listen to your crying kids, spouse aggro, or your munching on potato chips.

Biggest thing I hate about console version.

I find I have to make a group part in ps4 so it mutes the in game voices, towns are just a head ache.

Agreed, people need to be aware of this. But I think the main issue is that the game itself offers no ability to use a 'Push to Talk' feature. I have a nice Razer headset, that has no physical mute button. This means I have to stay off area chat when using it.

I could be okay with that. What really troubles me is how that will work in a group where I want to communicate. I play with my husband on the couch beside me. How can we talk amongst ourselves or make random noises without the whole group hearing? Even with a physical mute button on the headset, that's going to be rather annoying.

I Cant agree enough with this post, When i first logged in i had my tv volume up to a reasonable setting and started the tutorial area every thing was fine until i got out of the cell block and then my tv just erupted with this long sharp shout of a little kid screaming into his mic, I then turned the voice volume off immediately and diddnt turn it back on until i got to the first City for the AD where i wanted to try and buy some Iron ore i quickly abandoned this though because i couldnt get a word in and the amount of trashy noise from people who either dont know they had their mic on or just dont care was unbearable. Please Zenimax i Urge you to make a PTT button.

I am aware that all of the buttons are already bound but there is 2 Buttons that are Currently Bound to the same thing, The touch pad in the middle of the PS4 is actually 2 separate buttons the left and Right of the touch pad can be bound to different things like on Bloodborne, I am not familiar with the Xbox One controller so i cant comment on it but i would really like the Ability to have one of the touchpad buttons Bound to talk.

Agreed, but the game is totally new on console and lots of players wont be aware of this. Hopefully they will be soon :)

Yes, this is quite annoying. Is there an option to mute other people's area chat?

Thanks everyone above for the input. A PTT bound controller button or combo is definitely the best long-term solution. I've been using my mute button like PTT but it's a pretty clunky technique. Like @Ishta wrote, not all models have a mute button and it's at best annoying.

I never even thought about what could happen playing with a partner at home. Could develop into a TMI situation pretty quickly lol.

There doesn't seem to be a suggestions/feedback forum, so I'm going to make a new post and hope ZOS catches on.

@Groggolo Yeah, but only to leave the whole channel, not to mute individual players. Go to Options > Social > Voice Chat > Leave Channel.

I have no idea how to turn off the chat thing. Im not a chatty person unless im yelling at the game. I tried turning off my kinect but i can still hear other ppl talking about nonsense or babies crying and stuff. Every time I hear a stranger come thru my tv speakers, i go in and 'leave the channel' that works for a bit but the voices always come back! Is there a way to disable this completely or at least mute them?

So there's no push-to-talk feature? What about in console settings @NewBlacksmurf @Rook_Master?

I might just by a console version of the game to have running all day playing music in the middle of cities.
  • OrphanSoup

This morning I was wandering around in the game and I thought I was alone and all of a sudden someone coughed and I jumped out of my skin.

I believe that XBone has a push-to-talk feature, but it's not native to ESO itself.

I play on PS4 though, so not positive about that one. PS4 doesn't have PTT.. : /

No push to talk on PS4.

I have a mic that has a toggle on the cord, so no one has to hear me yell at my cat, or cough loudly, but others are not so courteous.

There's an option to disable voice chat for everyone in the options, but that's it, really.

Otherwise you have to go into the voice tab and mute individuals.

I haven't had to mute anyone yet, but then again I have done all the quests, and don't care about 'mersion anymore.

I think the biggest thing on XB1 is the people who use the Kinect as their chat mic... and they don't realize that they are even being heard...

There was a guy going on yesterday basically doing a full play by play of everything he was doing which devolved into a strange session of hitting on npcs which he found attractive...

I sent him a respectful message letting him know that everyone could hear him and it finally stopped... it was still really creepy...

agreed! I did not even know what was happening at first. I was going along and all of the sudden there was a freaking phone ringing! It took me a minute to realize it was coming from the game since I was not in a chat with anyone. And a little later there were kids crying and dished banging around. Why would you even have your mic on if you are not actively using it? It is very rude and self centered to force your noise on everyone else.

Me, my brother, and some friends have just constantly stayed in a party chat on PS4. Even if you log out, you stay in the same party as long as you don't leave party before you log off.

My only real issues I have had on alt characters is running through the town and then all of a sudden having a slew of curse words and just general horrible things being said fly through my speakers.

Where exactally in options can i find this disable voice chat? I only found game voice volume and leave channel. Leaving the channel only works ti i enter a new area tho. Any help would be awesome.

It seems like, since you need to go out of your way on PS4 to set up your microphone, you get people that are generally more aware of the noise that is being picked up.

Since Xbox defaults to the webcam mic, or kinect, whatever(I don't own an Xbone) it probably picks up a lot more crying babies and ambient noise.

I believe it's in the options panel. If it's not there check the voice panel by pressing start then triangle.

I'm sorry I don't have my PS4 in front of me so I can't remember exactly, but I remember there is an option to turn of all voice chat completely.

I use the Playstation wireless headset and just have to tap the control to mute/unmute the mic so I can leave the mic muted unless I want to talk, otherwise many expletives would be heard. :D

All the issues this game has and people complain about prox voice lol god I cant wait until all these new players get further into the game! Then they can feel our pain for the past 6 months waiting for them to be done working on console so we can HOPEFULLY see some new updates and ACTUAL bug fixes.......

I believe once console players see the "end" we will all unite and then Zeni will really be hurting to push out content and actually fix the broke stuff.

I wonder how long it will take for the "millions of ESO:TU players" to dwindle back down to a couple hundred thousand after the luster wears off...

I honestly don't want that to happen, but it feels like ZOS is pushing for that w/ their "No, you do things OUR way" attitude. : c
