Question about Application Update

I think i saw a post like this earlier, not sure where or on which site.

I just finished the main download. Started at 5:15pm eastern and finished at 9:35pm eastern so thats 4 hours 20 minutes for just under 40gigs.

Now I need to download the Application Update and right as i finished the initial download it said im at 6.2 gigs of 15.8gigs and says 7 hours..lol

It gives me the option to "start application without updating". What would be the consequences of this if i click it right now? What would be the consequence if start without update at midnight eastern when it officially opens up?

Would I even be able to play?

I wondered about this as well. I was hoping that the update (which is going to take about 24 hours to complete on PS4) would continue running in the background rather than having to start the update completely from scratch again. I'm not going to risk it as I don't want to have to wait a third day to get back on the game.

This just seems totally mad considering the game was only released a couple of weeks ago on the PS4 after a very long wait which I thought was due to rigourous beta testing....obviously not.
