That's completely false. ZOS has said many many times that the more people fishing the same hole, the higher the chances of any given cast of the rod getting a rare drop. If you had done any significant amount of fishing in groups as well as solo, you would see that it's true. I've found the ideal number of people to fish with to be 4-6. More than that and you start using up the holes too fast, and spend too much time finding new holes. Fewer than that and it takes way more casts of the rod (and way more bait) to get your greens and blues. In a 3 hours or so of fishing with a group of 4-6 I expect to get every single green and blue fish available in a zone - typically 5-10 of each green and 1-4 of each blue. In the same amount of time fishing solo I expect to get maybe 1/4 of that.

I get fish way faster in groups too.... not always the right fish. I always end up missing one everyone else gets 6x.. and it is usually green.

I like 4 usually... 6 can burn out holes pretty fast, and if you are messing with rare holes in some zones it seems to work better. Depends on what you are trying to get. Some zones the holes spawn pretty linearly (all on same river). some are all over the place (you clear a lake and the linked holes are someplace else entirely). I'm about 3 zones from my title. Mostly dealing with rare holes now (only like 3 in zone kinda stuff).

Yeah, the bold part is always the problem. If it was just about getting a certain number of greens and blues, with a group you could clear a zone super fast...

So basically, unless you are a hardcore player putting in huge hours, this makes the ever growing CP point difference between them and casuals even worse. It will accelerate.

I suppose if you are spending that much time fishing to get this ingredient, you need to make up for all those are hours you could have spent grinding CP instead =P

What makes it fair is anyone and everyone can obtain it with a little work in game or a lesser quality one via crown. It's a choice and a fabulous choice at that.

[Moderator Note: Edited quote to match moderated version]

I've been a vocal critic on the experience potion debate, and think they've made the right choice here. ZOS does need to make money, they are indeed a business after all, but off the cuff this appears to be a good balance between integrity of gameplay (and fairness to the community at large that plays ESO), and making a profit. I'm sure @ZOS_GinaBruno or @ZOS_JessicaFolsom will pop in soon with the accurate, but usual :), "Bear in mind that these items are not final and in-game yet" reminder. That bears repeating, of course, as things both can change, and they can change off of feedback too. If you like them, say it. If you think they'd be better a different way, say that too!

Of course, all this talk about fishing is still speculation... We don't actually know that fishing will be a possible way of getting this Perfect Roe, let alone whether it will be the only possible way of getting it. I hope fishing is a way of getting it, because it would seem silly if it wasn't, and it'd be nice to have a really good reward available for fishing. But we really don't know for sure...

It's in no way confirmed to be exclusive to fishing. It's not like we farm fish for isinglass.
For all we know it's could be a super-rare drop on nirnroot, water hyacinth, and maybe pure water.

Or anything, really. It's not like Nirncrux makes a lot of sense in a wood or cloth node, but it is what it is.

If this is obtainable via Cash Shop as well and affects CP gain, that is still definitely P2W.

I want to grind 10 hours a day, what do I do?

A ) I spend five of these presumably extremely rare ingredients to make 20 potions for 10 hours of grinding.

B ) Instead of spending ridiculous amounts of time/money (which is likely going to be impossible to sustain) to get these potions, I purchase them off the Cash Shop for $$$.

It is all going to depend on how rare these new ingredients are and what they sell for in the market.

And just because I want to make this pun: this is a recipe for disaster.

Assuming obtaining them in good quantity is feasible/reasonably so, via ingame means (for example, if I PVP I earn Alliance Points that I can sell for gold which buys me the XP foods/potions easily enough but not at a ridiculous price), then them being sold alongside that on the cash shop is good. However, the key is that the in-game versions aren't just there for show and are obtainable regularly and reliably, at a reasonable rate of effort or gold spent to do so with the crown store ones being an alternative, not the clearly superior method. :)

The solution isn't to add items to profit off of a bad experience. The solution is to streamline the leveling experience.

Didn't they have a version that only affected CP up to lv50 and then they stopped? What happened to that? I know for certain that I don't trust Zenimax Online Studios to implement these appropriately. The chance to make it p2w and cash in are too attractive.

"You gain a 50% XP boost from all sources for 30 minutes..."

What you do is finish every quest up until the point where you have to turn in the quest, and do everything on the map... then pop one of these potions, then go on a massive spree and turn in every quest and get 50% extra reward XP. Especially for vet areas, you'll just smash through VR with all the quest reward XP.

True, but how awesome would it be if fishing had another use except achievements? We can already fillet caught fish for provisioning, so maybe it's not too far-fetched to assume that Perfect Roe might come from there as well.

You forget that different players have different motivations.

You want to grind 10 hours a day. Someone else who is into Provisioning and Trade may want to farm recipes/ingredients 10 hours a day so they can make this drink and sell it. So you can buy it from another player and spend your 10 hours grinding without worrying how you are going to get said ingredients.

Yes. It also worked for an hour and had a one-hour cooldown. But as they said it was not the final product and could be changed. I remember there was quite a bit of negative feedback on that, so we'll have to wait and see what it ends up being like.

I think the fact that there is an in-game obtainable version will appease a lot of people that didn't like the idea. But again, we need to see what the final product is and such. Right now, we have a couple of screenshots and no idea of what the mechanics are going to be like.

...which is why I wrote that it depends entirely on the rarity of this new ingredient (it being legendary implies it could be quite rare indeed).

So it boils down to: will I be able to afford five of these new ingredients (assuming I craft the potions myself) every day to grind 10 hours, or am I forced to purchase gold off some shady website, or simply buy the potions from Cash Shop?

If they are affordable by normal play, then by all means this is a great solution for the P2W issue presented by these potions being in the Cash Shop.

If it becomes impossible for a normal player to keep using these potions without $$$ involved, then it is, quite simply, P2W.

I would expect it to be as rare as Nirncrux (maybe a little less), but the fact that it is a provisioning ingredient will make it fairly expensive.

And let's not forget that you will need both purple ingredients to make the drink as well, and they are not cheap either.

Of course, we are speculating that this will come along with a Crown Store version that is not quite the same, so you may be able to buy that rather than going to questionable websites.

Actually, the crown store version was discovered way before this one.
