Yeah, that's the explanation I'm going for as well. When you stop feeding it Frost Salts, it will probably go back to "normal".

LIkewise, that Nightmare horse might have been chewing on some Fire Salts ...

People complaining about a magical horse in a fantasy universe! At the end of the day it is STILL A HORSE and with an already established mount feeding mechanic ingame it's not hard to come to the conclusion that an ingame item(frost salts) could be fed to it to make ANY horse become one(lore friendly).

What about the daedric horse that could be summoned in skyrim?

Oo a new mount and the color schemes looks oddly reminiscent of white walkers from Game of Thrones.

Also like to bring this up each time with lore. There are more then a few cool lore based mounts that could be introduced if there is a move away from re-skinning.

For example, in the Wrothgar mount range proud, noble, vigilant, strong and mighty Orismer take to the backs of giant woolly herd-beast centipedes. This undoubtedly strikes fear into their enemies.

This Orsimer also has heard rumors of his fellow brethren riding bears (as indicated by one of the stablemasters) as well as rumors of the despicable Dark Elves taking to the air on massive insectiod creatures or the foreign wood elves riding wildebeest like animals through the dense Valenwood forests.

That wouldn't make for a bad raid on a keep in Cyro actually. A host of draugh on those frosty horseys up against a lot of people wearing black.

Someone ought to arrange that sometime and see who wins then we won't have to wait for the end of the books.

All these "legendary" horses in the crown store are a wasted opportunity to throw in a quest to get them. I'd rather a purchasable quest that explains the lore and rewards the horse than just straight up buying it. Oh well, I guess ZOS needs money badly before they can make new quests... Such a shame.

Not lore friendly? Ice atronoch in horse form boom, if they can use one as a frikken fridge in AD quest line they can use one to ride on. As long as magic is involved ANYTHING can be lore friendly.

Is this really where the community is going? Just going to sit here all day nit picking an optional horse purchase for a game that has a hidden quest involving a guy who wants to get some spank sex from a winged daedra.....

Edit: This is a world of high fantasy, im tired of hearing this isnt lore based and thats immersion breaking, all i gotta say is lawl. We have Daedra from Oblivion, floating dunmer gods and clockwork cities... plus the Snow Prince road an ice-horse into battle against the nords!

All of which are consistent with the series. Huge populations of ice(or fire for that matter) horses is not. That's the disconnect. The lack of consistency is the problem, not the existence of magic. It's the same problem as if Dwemer Airships were to be put in to the game and everybody got one - or if the Lilmothiit became a playable race. The existence isn't the problem - that is consistent with the lore - the roaming of these things en masse across all corners of Tamriel would be the problem.

It's cheesy and far more boring than the precedent set by the previous games in the series.

Even in a world of high fantasy mounts like this would be rare if not living in tales only. In a game, that would translate into a cap so that at any moment there is only a handful of bizzare mounts and vast, vast majority of mounts are horses (though e.g. camel would be plausibe in some regions). Frodo did not set out to destroy The Ring on one of The Eagles, even though it would have been very convenient because he would have been able to fly all the way to Mordor and drop The Ring into Mount Doom from air. No, he traveled on foot or at best on a pony, because an eagle would ruin the plot.
But not only that. Even in a world of high fantasy where a hero indeed has some rare mount, he does not have it just because he is filthy rich and vain. There must be some reason for it, which, again, in a game would be e.g. completion of some epic quest.
Whether the mount per se is plausible or not is secondary.

There is great deal of irony in it, because as every next mount has to be more extravagant than the previous in order to sell and at the same time every extravagant mount is eventually common because every kid (not by age only) who can have it has it, the most cool, fitting and unique mount is...a common horse.
And what is even better is that I, for one, would gladly pay not for a rare mount, but a game where rare mounts are rare, but there is no one to give money to. Instead I am being shoved stupid mounts down my throat, because if nothing else I have to look at them (well, I would have to, if I did not bailed out).

To be fair I think this Frostmagic horse thing is all the same as the magical fire horse. Arvak from Skyrim was a purple flame covered summonable skeleton horse. I have to say though it would be nice if they threw some more 'normal' mounts in. Camels for certain but possibly even a mammoth or silt strider would make sense in this world.
