ESO on Windows 10?

    ohheynix
I'm also currently running Windows 10 Build 10130, and have been running Windows 10 since January, and this game has always worked flawlessly. It does crash here and there, but since 10130 came out, I've only crashed once. The only problem I encounter is if I leave my PC long enough for the screen to rest (the PC is forced to stay awake but the monitor does shut off), it will become completely unresponsive, forcing me to do a hard reset of my PC. This may be an issue with the monitor, however no keyboard commands will work. Again, this hasn't happened since 10130 came out, so hopefully they've fixed whatever was going on!

It won't be long maybe a year or two and they will force everyone to Win10 and there will not be any more versions of windows only updates that we may have to purchase in the future.

Considering I have automatic updates turned off, no they can not.

Speaking of which, that option is disabled for home users of Windows 10. Only Pro and Enterprise editions will be able to defer updates. Also, no playing DVDs anymore without third party software, apparently.

LOL not laughing at you but you know M$ made it and they do not need update on to force you to end up having to pay to use their product. What I have been hearing is they want to stop pirates from using windows illegally so in long run (1 year after release) they will start charging you for using windows. Be like buying an anti-virus product that gives you updates and support until you have to pay for another year.

That is exactly what they want to get to eventually. They've made no secret about it. Already did it with office, though they haven't dropped the ability to buy rather than subscribe yet.

When that happens, I'll probably go ahead and move completely over to Linux if I haven't already done so by then. Only real reason I haven't is gaming.

Only when Zenimax officially announces full DX12 Support (could be awhile) I will make the switch. Until Then its Win7x64 for me.

I doubt they will ever do that, you can't just change DX, lots of work is involved. Not many games have done this before either.
Not talking about remastered games ofc but that's another story.
And ESO is using DX9, they could have used DX11 ...

ESO uses DX11 but also supports DX9. It may not utilize a lot of DX11 features like tesselation but it does use DX11. I do agree DX12 is not likely any time soon.

Even though like what I'm seeing and hearing about window 10 so far, people that are saying it will be the final upgrade for os are mistaken like a few have pointed out just like other software makers they are meerly switching to the nickle and dime approach, wouldn't surprise me if they start by offering fancy stuff in the windows store to test the waters to see how far they can push it. Like you want this new feature pay x amount and so on, but other wise will work like any other software product mainly anti virus stuff I think ..pay x amount for a year, pay x amount for a few years and so on for full support Though wondering if windows 10 will screw up my raid set up for storage drive

But hopefully ZOS gives an officel answer soon cause going to delay getting it working on my computer till a few weeks after it comes out to be on the safe side

My old PC where I fist played Eso on only supported DX9 and ESO worked fine on it, My new computer I'm using for 3 months now has DX11 support and I didn't see any (at least didn't noticed) DX11 graphical features. That's why I really thought it was DX9 only.

There is very little differences so yeah won't notice a huge differences in graphics and so on. ESO was design to give has many people roughly the same graphics

If it means they will get greater revenue from having both PC and Xbox players able to play together ZOS will do it. Of coarse there's a lot of things they need to fix first before going that route but this would be years down the road anyway. The whole point of having one "Mega" server anyway was to be able to play with everyone. It will all depend if there is still an ESO going years down the road. So far things are looking grim for it. We'll see how things are in December and if anyone's still here....

And if mircosoft stops the whole third party people can't do that for us

You forgot about the cry babies, people will start about beeing unfair controller vs keyboard/mouse (mainly pvp).
OFC you can use controller on PC and use it with eso and using third party programs but that's not's the same as xbox vs pc.

If you understand what I mean, didn't really know a way to explain it better.

I'll use Windows 7 till it's killed off like XP was, Windows 8.0 was a bad joke, 8.1 did little to make it funny and Windows 10 seems likely to be another lame attempt to foist 'tablet' workflow on a PC but with a [very poor] attempt to retain the desktop as a sop to those of us who see no reason at all to have 'tiles' on a desktop PC.

Actually the latest rendition of Win 10 is much more palatable. I was in the same boat and was determined to stick with Win 7 as long as possible, but the ESO crashes on Win 7 pushed me over the edge, and I had to try something.

I'm on Win 10 now and the super annoying frequent crashing seems to be a thing of the past. I used to crash every few minutes, but now it seems only specific things cause a crash, like changing characters. Now it's about 4-6 hours between crashes.

The only thing left in windows 10 that even resembles tiles is the section off to the right of the "normal" start bar menu. The version I'm on right now, 10130, even gives you the option to customize/disable those tiles as you see fit. Honestly I HATE Windows 8, I cant stand the way it looks or acts, but 10 is actually starting to grow on me. The start menu is a translucent overlay now, and looks a lot better. Win 10 also boots up faster, and seems to use all my CPU cores more effectively.

If you have the space on your drives, or perhaps have an extra drive, you can always try dual booting 7/10. That's what I'm doing now, and its working out great. If you do decide to dual boot, check out the guide on my Win 10 post to make sure everything boots up properly. http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/172357/any-windows-10-users-notice-a-big-difference-in-eso-with-the-latest-build/

People use what ever is comfortable to them. If they bring in controller support for PC there would be a lot of people using it. I won't as I'm better with keyboard and mouse. ZOS won't care one way or the other if someone's crying about they got beat by a pc user or vice versa. They are too busy coming up with ideas for the Crown Store.

I also doubt it but LOTRO has done it giving support to run dx10 and dx11 and I came from LOTRO so I would only hope that Zeni goes for it... also it might benefit them.. could have better performance on the megaservers of course nobody really knows.

What was said was M$ stated Win 10 would be the last named Windows, now that could mean Win 10 forever or after the year they will call it something else but they will not follow in the way they have in the past. Now I will take it with a grain of salt because no one really can say what will happen with that company.

Microsoft hasn't upgraded Windows core code since Windows XP when they started to move away from MS-DOS. Most upgrades have been optimizations and cosmetics. Windows 10 is a combination of what people like in 7 and 8.1. So, yes, every game that runs on 7 or 8.1 will run on 10, whether it ran poorly or well. TBH it isn't worth the upgrade on Gaming PC's even if it is free.
