New Player, lost as ever

Howdy, so I recently started playing ESO since beta and so much has changed since I last remember it and it's kind of overwhelming. I went on the player guides section and different wikis and tried to figure stuff out on my own but only ended up confusing myself.

My big questions are really just these:
1. I want to be a healing templar but I wanted to do like a Bow and Sword and Board, or 2h Mace, and spells from the Sun's Wrath or whatever it's called with the Khajiit veteran armor I saw in Character creation (which I'll get to ina sec) and wanted to know if that is viable.
2. If the armor in said preview is available in all weight types
3. Seeing as I am a huge PvE junkie, how does the group system work in this game and how is the PvE content overall.
4. Is it viable to heal in heavy armor at all
5. I heal in every MMO I play pretty much so how fluid is the healing overall?
6. Just the skill system in general, like does it work like any other Elder Scrolls game?

Thanks bunches guys, and any other info you think I should know would be dandy as well!

    Hello fellow Khajiit Templar.

1: The game is somewhat limited in build choices meaning there is a clip between stamina and magica. Healing skills come from the class-skill line (Restoring Light) or from the restoration staff skill line. Both are always using Magica attributes.
Bow, sword, shield and 2hmace use stamina. This would mean that for a viable build, you need to spread points in two directions. This is counter productive. You can make a dps templar using stamina skills or a healing templar using magica (third option is a dps templar, based around magica, using class skills and destruction staff skills).

2: No. that is heavy armor, and to be honest, heavy armor is only really somewhat viable for a dps stamina templar. You can build with it, but imo it is better to get more magica and less protection from your armor, so you can heal yourself (and the people around you).. This is done with light armor. Cause Khajiit has some class pasives for medium armor, that can be viable, but not as much for the templar. The khajiit racial pasives are less suitable for templar imo (but you can perfectly live without.

3: PvE content overall is good. in open world PvE the group system is good, but lacks a bit group experience. For example, I was playing with a friend and helping him with a quest I allready did. He saw and experienced a huge storm on a ship, while I was standing next to him in full sunshine cause I allready vanguished the storm. So in regular PvE the experience is still very much based per individual. In group dungeons this is a lot better.

4: Honestly...Nope. specially if also want to be a hybrid between stamina and magica. There are heavy armor sets with magica, but it gives less magica with the trade of for protection. As you are trading in healing power for your group for personal protection it is also less viable. (speaking only for PvE, in PvP, you will likely get more agro, and this might be different, but I don't play PvP myself)

5: Group content is different in the way agro works. This makes fights somewhat more chaotic. As there are good healing skills that are AoE based, this is not so much an issue.

6: No. The whole combat/skill system is based on a hybrid between traditional MMO's and Elder scroll games. As said, you keep the magica, stamina and health stats and they work very simular. But you also get skills you use next to your weapons. Some are classbound (mostly magica based) and some are weapon bound (mostly stamina based). the combat itself is also less sensitive (so it is harder to miss a target), but still uses the hold lmb to charge and hold rmb to block. So it is simular but different. Very new is the morphing of skills. Each skill you can morph once into a better version (choosing between two options). It is advisable to always reserve one skillpoint for morphing.

edit: Small note - Nothing is set in stone in ESO. You can always pick up new weapons and armor and at level 17 you reach the capital (you can actually rush there at level 10 alone, and sooner if you get an escort) of your alliance and you can pay a small fee to reset your attributes or chosen skills. It keeps the gained levels in skills so it is a perfect way to change your build.

One thing to keep in mind, in PvE leveling, you can run a hybrid character with both Magic and Stamina Attributes and Skills. But in PvP, Trials and Vet Level Dungeons and Pledges, a Hybrid will not be of much use. For those times, you want a more focused character that is either Stamina or Magic.

You can always respec your character, and change your skill morphs, so you can level one way, then change to the more focused build when you need that.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

If you want to play as a heavy armor healer then go for it. Get some crafted sets made to help you out. You just won't be ablre to use any of the healing spells from the Restoration Staff line with a sword and shield. The seducer set is great for plus bonuses to magicka and magicka recovery. Then get another set that will help with your damage and stamina. The Nights Silence set would work really well for that as you could get a 4 item bonus in that set in addition to a 5 item bonus from the Seducer. You could even make a combo of three different sets if that's what you want to try out. Some to help out in each area. Just find a crafter that can do them all and work things out with them. I'm on the NA server and I can do all of them. If you need help send me a game email at @Robbmrp and I can give you a hand.

For a list of all of the special crafted sets out there take a look at the wiki link below.

So I could potentially do a Heavy Armor healer I couldn't do the stamina/Magicka split?

Experiment with it. Ask for help. In general it's less successful, but depending on how you glyph your armor/jewelry, and what mundus stone you use, and what exact skills you concentrate on (there may be skill lines you develop because of one particular morph of one particular skill and nothing else is useful).

Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

at actual endgame, not really, heavy armor is not really going to help except for maybe a piece or two. leveling, yeah, it could technically work, but would not bother with it as you would be getting used to playing a combat style that does not work
