When a hammer is not a mace (or maul)

According to the game's blacksmithing Research window I have in my possession one hammer and two mace (maul).

But according to my deconstruction window, I have three mace (maul), one of which is by name a "Flamecrest Hammer".

The other two are "Girara's Fist and a generic "Quicksilver Maul".

    Looks right. You have a one handed mace, called hammer in research. And a couple two handed maces known as mauls in reserch.

    - a Mace is a one handed hammer and will be researched as a hammer?
    - a Maul is a two handed hammer and will be researched as a maul?
    - a Hammer is a weapon type such as a sword, axe etc.?

    Your blunt damage weapons are all maces. In past TES games the one hander would be a mace and the two hander a war hammer, but across different motifs in ESO not all designs fit that naming scheme. I believe the research uses distinct names to avoid confusion. The images are very similar.
