ZOS, how rare is the Valkyn Skoria helm supposed to be ?

    Maybe you guys can help me on this as I'm a little confused.

    Last night did Undaunted Gold - Spindle - and completed with Gold Key.

    We were running on Vet5 for a lower member, so all pickups inside the run were v5 items and negligible (I'm v14).

    Went and opened up the Gold Chest and pretty sure I got given the "Scourge Harvester" Helm - although I'm also fairly sure the name was actually "Mephala" - but the description I do remember and it contained "Beam of light".

    I'm not entirely sure as I'm at work but can confirm tonight.

    I was under the impression the Helms only dropped off the boss and the shoulders could be in the chest at the end?

    Can anyone confirm/clarify pls?

    Whenever I see this set on other players, I always wonder why there's only ONE shoulder part.

    For this set it's ok, but it's not "armor-like" enough when the old Orc heavy chest piece had boob windows and the Redguard light chest piece was a shirt? I don't get it...

    Only done about 15 times, but no helm. I know 2 people who have dropped it on their first run (damn you)!! Shoulder wise im pretty lucky i guess, have multiples of each set.

    Valkyn and Engine helm seem to be rare as rocking horse *** for me, the only 2 sets i want..........meh.

    @P3ZZL3 Wow...more than likely, if you have the helm, you probably picked it up from a past run without even realizing it.

    The helms strictly come from bosses, the shoulders from Gold keys.

    Scourge is the beam that steals and heals (Wayrest), Mephala makes a web on Heavy Attacks (Grotto)

    If you got a Mephala helm with Scourge set bonus from a shoulder-only gold key chest, you experienced some kind of triple glitch.

    I also know they all tend to run together after a while. I suspect such is the case.

    Im on run 20+ and I know people that have run dungeons 90+ times with no helm or a crap helm drop like LIGHT WELL FITTED FOR A TANK. This random chance bs drops in game needs to end its ridiculous it feels like Im playing the slots at the casino... but at least there I dont have to spend hours doing it.

    I got my Skoria helm yesterday, medium/divine.
    It was my 4th run... No joke, no troll.
    Had 4 shoulders too, i decon one being bad.

    Nerieneth and Engine guardian faces seem to evade me however.

    We just looked over the Valkyn Skoria helm droprate compared to similar helms, including Mephala's helm and Blood Spawn's helm. They all have the same droprate. They are intended to be rare, but not to a crazy degree.
    Wouldn't it make sense to increase the drop rate slightly for an item in a dungeon that is more difficult and takes longer to run than any other 4 man dungeon? Throw us a bone here.

    It took 67 runs to get my first blood spawn helm, so is that what I am to take as "RARE" or is that RNG operating to a "Crazy Degree"? I still don't have a Mephala's helm and i stopped going/counting at 40 runs there (between 3 V14s)...and since the release of COA I have seen 1 helm in i can't even count how many clears.

    People in my guilds use me as the example of "worst case scenario" RNG, but I still would like to know..are these typical results?

    I heard from guys that went to the guild summit that you guys said the droprate for helms "was around 10%"...was that just BS?
    Cause this doesn't even feel like 1%.

    There is actually a very good reason why they are different rates. Think about it a bit. It's actually smart on their part. It would not make sense if the drop rates were the same.

    It makes no sense at all.... random trait/armor type as well as a 1 in 100 chance of even having the damned thing drop? That doesnt make sense, its bs is what it is. 60+ runs in Darkshade and I got one helmet to drop, light well fitted and I am a tank how is that supposed to help me??? It doesnt, so what another 60+ runs to possibly get a medium or heavy or ANOTHER light helmet with well fitted or god forbid STURDY trait. No it needs to be a merit system not this casino royale they have going on for drops in the game.

    ZoS could make most of the complaining go away by simply making all these items Bind-on-Equip. Then people who got the Light helm (when they wanted the Heavy) could sell it for gold and buy the one they wanted from some other guy who didn't get the one he wanted.

    Not only is it really hard for me to find a group that wants to run the dungeon I want the helmet for, but it's even harder to find a group that can actually finish it without spending a very long time to try and complete the final boss on v14 mode.

    With the time it takes to find a group and actually run the dungeon, I'll be lucky to even run it once.

    I would love to be able to just safe up a ton of gold and just buy it, because right now the only reason I log in is to try and find a group, and I spend my time just running around bunny hopping wasting my time.

    93 purple chest openned and still waiting for the RNG god to give me my valkyn skoria, because right now the only reason I log in is to do the daily then rage quit because after 3mounths I still can't get my final piece of gear. YAY so much fun.

    Bind on pickup was already a bad idea when it came out first in november 2004.

    Personally, I dislike the concept of bind of pickup and bind on equip gear. I believe the problems people say are solved by these mechanics are actually caused by the mechanics being in place. When gear is designed to bind to your character, that naturally creates an emphasis on gear and an emphasis on gearing up particular characters. Suddenly content can be designed to force people into raids to get gear rather than allowing gear to be acquired and propagated throughout the server. A rebuttal would be that good gear then floods the server, but again that’s indicative of another problem created by emphasis on gear. Items should be much more rare, and the reliance upon items should be diminished. If a rare drop offhand adds 9 wisdom that’s fantastic, but there should be a +7 wisdom quest reward or much more common item.

    Bind on Equip and Bind on Pickup are indicative of a system where gear makes the character. In a system where the character’s ability are emphasized and only slightly augmented by gear, the dependence upon gear becomes much less pronounced. If the issue is giving players a reason to play, then that’s easily resolved by addressing design depth. If all a game is designed to do is put people on gear treadmills through raids, then that’s the problem right there.

    While not everything said is true for ESO (you can get good gear in many different way) it sum'up the problem of bound gear.

    In summary, I’d like to see a game where everything can be traded to and used by characters of any level.

    Had 3 drops in my first 4 runs (h, m and l). Then like 20 runs and then git a 4th drop. Now I have it done like 10 times without.

    I guess it's just being lucky.

    Drop rate should increase 1% each time you do not get it. It should reset back to 10% each time it drops.

    If you go 20 runs in a row with no drops, the drop rate should be 30%. This would break the very, very long streaks of absolutely no drops. It would also pretty much guarantee a drop every 20-30 runs which would make everyone happy.

    SHHHH. That's too much common sense to be talking at once :D This would be perfect @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom. Although may be a nightmare from a development standpoint.

    Edit: I'm now on 25 clears since my last helm in which I've went with the same player every time, that player has received 3 helms in that period. :/

    Out of nowhere I got the shoulders the other day. In STURDY?!?!!?!?! WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :s
    Apparently having a fluctuating balance between 50k-500k a week; RNG / ZOS belive that I can't afford a 200g repair bill! They really thought I should only have to pay 100g! Take crap traits out of the game period. (or out of VET levels)

    Update, i have now run on 2 chars and 28 runs to get first helm and 27 on the 2nd to get 1st drop. I have also run 58 Gold pledges on my DK and no shoulder drop yet, that's nearly 2 months worth of running gold most days. So all my work for the helm at the moment is in vain.

    Please ZOS change the system, i am willing to earn it but RNG has no place in games. Most of us have an in game work ethic, utilize that. The fact that i only have a % chance for the shoulders to drop once a day is ridiculous.

    The RNG is only part of the problem. The other part is the number of possible combinations (3 weights, 8 traits), so if you DO get a drop, chances are it won't be that good for your build.

    All of this could be solved by having tokens so you could buy the specific gear you want from special traders (degree of grinding being a function of how many tokens are needed) OR by making the gear player-craftable, requiring special materials dropped from bosses.

    Remember, it's not just RNG, it's ESO RNG.

    I know people that have never gotten an Engine Guardian helm to drop, yet they have 4 Skoria's. I picked up two more (non-Skoria) helms in the last week that I didn't even realize were in my inventory until I checked them later.

    On the same note, my VR1 Templar got a Wayrest drop on his second Vet Dungeon ever...

    I do like the idea of the +1% chance to get a version of the helm with each run.

    Development wise, they'd only have to add a couple dozen variables to the template, one percentage for each Vet Dungeon, checked/reset only on completion of the boss fight.

    Running a dungeon 100 times with success for a version of the helm does not seem unreasonable. Trait and weight might not be ideal, but it would at least get you started, and you'd still have to wait it out for the shoulder set, no matter what.

    The part i hate is i can run the dungeon many times to get the helm as much as i want, shoulders only 1 chance per day.
    I know they upped the chance for shoulder drops but its still RNG random. Something like Telvar stones across the board would be ideal. Id rather save a million of the things to get the item and trait i want rather than waiting for a random drop once per day.

    You beat me to saying this lol. I agree, it shouldn't be that hard to implement that tiny improvement in code. Whether it should be 1 or 0.5 or 5 or something % I don't know(personally 1 sounds good to me. 90 runs for 100% chance. I know people who have run literally 200+ dungeon farming runs with NO HELM AT ALL. How does that sounds for bad RNG? Technically it's possible to literally NEVER get a helm at all if RNG gods hate you in paticular) but it sounds like a great idea which would kep the rarity of the helms but immensely decrease the frustration of trying to farm one.

    As for me, I think I've gotten my first Skoria helm well over my 50th run but I'm not sure and I wasn't farming for it at the time(was farming the achievements rather). It was heavy infused I think. By now I've easily done several hundred+ runs though and I have yet to see a light helm. I don't even really care for it, I'm fine using my latter heavy reinforced drop(also got a medium infused I think) and mostly run CoA for fun or to help friends but it does show how nicely RNG can work.
    I do have a few friends who are over run 100+ for CoA helm and na da. Myself, it took me over 200 vet DC runs to *** finally get a heavy helm which I really wanted to try out a certain tanking build. And yes, I was counting. Got about 8 medium though, 2 of them infused. One sturdy light. Oh and the heavy when it finally dropped was well-fitted>_<

    @ZOS_RichLambert this issue will be coming back in full force now that most of us will be back in vCOA at v16. I have people in my guild since beta that still haven't got one in v14 after running it nearly every other day since release.

    All the vet dungeons could drop tokens along the chance of helmet. Let's assume Valkyn drops every ten or twenty runs on average. With e.g. fifty runs i could have got few random but if RNG really hated me i could guarantee at least one with tokens. If i run a vet golden pledge per day, i would know that within two months i'll get one good item. These should be BoE. The tokens reward should scale to difficulty (norm/vet, vr rank, hardmode) and should be tradeable.

    There could be a new token-based elite crafting table. On the table a crafter could select set, level, traits etc. Style might be locked.

    I agree completely with the percentage drops increasing, aside from bind on equip, it makes the most sense, playing a game shouldn't be work. I don't mind getting the helm and shoulders to be difficult to get but having to complete dungeon runs numbering up to and over 100 times in many instances? Really? Zos could add some mechanic to at least make it when it does finally drop relevant to your build. Personally, just have it mirror the set piece you have on. To run pledges and dungeons that many times to get useless garbage like well fitted, sturdy, or exploration, is just a slap in the face, seriously is there ANYONE who has ever used those traits? Throw us a bone here zos.
