Cloaks/ capes

Will cloaks, capes or even headbands and scarves be included into ESO in the future?

If so, how would this affect the game positively and negatively?

If not, how come they wouldn't be included? Haha we could add "hide ***" option. Premium players could get it I guess? Not sure :-)

Thanks so much fellow ESOers that are willing to chat with me!

Search function works wonders mate. Here are the highlights:
    • Yes we want them.
    • ESO had them in early beta/alpha
    • They couldn't get them right.
    • They caused significant performance issues.
    • Most of us assume we will get them at some point in the future.

Shouldn't be noticeable anymore along with the current performance issues ;) Cloaks for everyone^^

Cloaks were in the game at one point In the video I link below you can see characters wearing capes at times: 2:28, 2:55(argonian on the left has one), 3:06 (guy in full Imperial)

    [url=https://youtube.com/watch?v=YlEipFtHw7o[/url]

So they were in the game at one point but they must have decided to scrap the idea shortly before ESO came out. A few things I'd like to point out is not everyone was wearing capes, which could mean that they might have to been hard to obtain (this could show you've done something like titles, or they could have been very rare drops)

There is also a lot of stuff in the video that was left out, tons of different abilities, flags in the courtyard of a keep, armors, etc.

one day they may bring them back, if enough people ask for em.

    Liches still have their cape...

    The cinematic trailer has capes...

I still hope someday they will add them. Even if its only in a suboptimal way to save on performance. Even thoigh I maybe won't wear them often. Still, there are dozends of things I consider much more important, so...

I'm only against it because the way they do things in this game it could end up causing more lag where we don't have it now.

I could care less about capes. Paul Sage doesn't like capes. I just like to poke fun at endlessly repeated trivial requests. >:)

What about Ezio style little capes that only hang from one shoulder? Or at least some shoulder fur/hangy shoulder wraps like with Dark Souls 2 (ex. the trailer armour).

Or just add capes and cloaks with various styles - run the physics simulation and turn it into pre-rendered keyframes based on character animations onto special "cape-bones". Yes, it looses some of the natural flow, but it can give a good enough illusion of cape physics without killing the performance. I'm sure the game engine can handle the devs adding 3-6 bones to the current rigging. And the beauty is that all characters use the same animation and the physics engine will do the bulk of the keyframe animation work.

And yes it can be done. That "other MMO that shall not be named" did it with their recent character updates and the results have been good enough for me to be suggest it for ESO. Beside, physics driven capes have a tendency to snag up in *** ways - I once had my Sith marauder from SWTOR look like an idiot after he performed an awesome death-defying leap... he landed with the cape firmly wrapped around his neck...I *** you not. The type of *** you see happening in movie bloopers... much like Thor really.

Masks and such with ridiculous looks were actually worn to intimidate or frighten your opponents, actually. After all, look at some of the garish design of Samurai armor.

Yes, but mostly made of lightweight material, not massive bone horns. And some designs were more ceremonial (the real gaudy ones). Not to mention this is a fantasy game. If you start pulling that, then we will really need to start scrutenising every aspect.

I'm pretty sure the cast of GoT, 300 and about 50% of fantasy movies in the last 30 years might be upset. Not to mention Darth Vader :P

I really don't care about them, since TESO has been fairly mellow about the look of the armor. Your over exaggeration aside, bone is not that heavy, and depending on the bone you use can be exceptionally light.

Fair point. But would still like to see anyone fighting in the Primal helm they would be at a disadvantage from someone with a smaller more head-sized helm. The point is, capes and cloaks are something people want. It's a fantasy game and they are generally accepted in all variaties of fantasy games/story/shows alongside technically slightly less than practical armour and weapons. If you whine about cloaks, then let's start with tearing the oversized weapons appart and let's not even get started on the greatswords and battleaxes.

I would say to those that want 100% (or closer to) realism. There is Mount & Blade and some other games for your authentic needs.

I actually hate tabards and capes.

Why every MMO has to have tabards and capes? Every-single-one.
There are other ways to identify yourself with a guild other than cliche tabards and bloody capes:

    - War-Banners as I have linked above
    - Mounted flags
    - Guild emblems on mount armor
    Medieval%20Knight.jpg
    - Guild emblems on shields
    - Guild emblems engraved/embroidered on armor (on the back or front with different variations)

Seriously. Stop with that tabard and cape thing, try for once doing something different.

    That knight wears a cape...

I HATE tabards, but I love cloaks/capes, it is a fact that they were used in similar settings as ESO (Lord of the rings for example). Yes, they would be clumsy in combat, but when Im not in combat why would I not wear a cape/cloak for some warmth or cover against the rain?

Yeah, capes / cloaks seem to be the norm in every other MMORPG, along with many other features such as servers and all that (but let's not get into that here). Seems ZoS leave out many seemingly vital parts of traditional MMORPGs that work in favour of creating their own "identity". However, when that identity is not what people want / need, that's kind of, well, fail.

All in all. Capes. Yes. Please.

Well allright cloaks might be good but please don't make them a piece of texture sticking out of your shoulders like in most other mmo's.

The ones showed in the video is just another mmo "cape". I hate that. I expect more than that.
