Themed Builds!

Hi all fellow gamers!

Amidst the constant criticism and all the gloom and doom I wanted to create something that may help with the mood; fun themed builds!

Now I know that fun can be interpreted differently by others but for this space, i'd like to hear about other players' take on builds that are created under a certain theme, be it viable endgame or not. The openness of the skill lines means that alot of choices are left to the player and this allows us to create builds that are out of the norm or follow a certain thematic look.

Before we start, a bit of history on myself; I originally started playing MMOs on WoW ( no surprises there) and played it for about 7 long years, from vanilla up till Cataclysm. Blizzard was one of the first few companies that managed to gain my attention for a long time with the Diablo and Starcraft series, not to mention Warcraft. I've also played the Dragonage series, from origins all the way till inquisition. Without a doubt I have played the Elder Scrolls series, though I only started on morrowind, and onwards to skyrim.

With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that my builds do have influences of gameplay from these few games. Let me get started then!

Survivalist Hunter - stamina nb bow/dw

Lethal Injection
Lethal Arrow
Acid Spray
Crippling Grasp / Volcanic Rune
Shadow Image

Soul tether

Lotus Fan
Whirling Blades
Twisting Path
Rapid Strikes
Shadow Image

Veil of Blades

When I first started in Wow, I chose a hunter class. All of these classes had a talent tree and this particular tree (survival) had alot of usage with poisons and traps. This build does not have that much of traps but as for poisons, the bow skill line has lots of it in abundance.

For group fights, I usually start the fight at range, putting out my shadow image and then lotus fan. A few whirlwinds and I jump back to my image and switch to bow for acid spray. I sometimes lay down a twisting path before I jump back but it really doesnt matter in levelling zones as they usually will be down within the few whirlwinds.

The survivalist uses
5 medium (dunmer) pieces
2 heavy (bosmer) pieces.

This is to facilitate the fact that shadow barrier passive is buffed with heavy armor and give the survivalist all the help he can get to survive any fights.

Marksmanship Hunter - stamina nb bow/2h

Reaper's Mark
Focused Aim
Draining Shot
Crippling Grasp
Shadowy Disguise

Soul Tether

Mirage
Carve
Wrecking Blow
Killer's Blade
Rally

Veil of Blades

This build focuses on getting the target down before they even reach you. The idea behind a marksman is that the marksman is a sniper first and foremost. He doesn't go melee unless the situation warrants it and then he has mirage and wrecking blow to get those near off of him. Rally and carve to get the ultimate up and pop it every time.

The marksman uses
7 medium pieces (breton and redguard)

This is so the marksman makes full use of the critical and dodge bonuses medium armor gives.

The Beastmaster - magicka sorcerer dual wield / bow

Unstable Clannfear
Summon Twilight Matriach
Empowered Ward
Daedric Prey
Rending Slashes

Summon Charged Atronach

Unstable Clannfear
Summon Twilight Matriach
Daedric Minefield
Shattering Prison
Bombard

Summon Charged Atronach

While it may seem that its weird having a magicka build and using dual wield and bow, the stamina spells as you can see involves mostly on snaring or immobilizing the target. Because this build relies heavily on your pets, controlling their attacks and making sure they survive is important. However because there isnt any penalty in resummoning the pets, calling and releasing your pets at the right time really matters.

You can also not use the twilight matriach and put in Dark Conversion but its entirely up to you as you play it.

The Beastmaster uses
5 light and 2 medium armor, for the magicka regeneration and also abit for the stamina regen.

Now remember, this builds aren't meant to be optimal or really viable endgame but it is fun to play in a way that is way diff

Affliction Warlock - magicka nb pure destro staff

    Elemental Susceptibility
    Debilitate
    Structured Entrophy
    Funnel Health
    Impale

    Veil of Blades

    Maleafic Wreath
    Sap Essence
    Force Pulse
    Mass Hysteria
    Spell Symmetry

    Soul Tether

This build requires alot of weapon swapping and buff watching. One of my really weird build but something I am really proud of. The build is divided to single target dps and moving to aoe / control skills if it gets too rough.

You start the fight with elemental susceptibility, followed by Debilitate and S.E. Cycle your rotation with Heavy attacks and funnel health, while keeping Debilitate and S.E up on the target. Spam impale once execute threshold is reached.

In groups however, you target the tank-iest mob, making sure you have the Elemental Susceptibility, Debil and S.E on him. Then cast Maleafic Wreath, Force Pulse spam. Use Soul tether to finish off or to cc, Mass Hysteria for cc / range generation and Spell Symmetry after the end of the fight or for mana management.

Now personally, I havent had the chance to test this out soon but if anyone does try it, pls do tell if this build is fun for kicks and whistles.

    More builds incoming!

Enhancement Shaman - Stamina Dragonknight build dual wield / sword and shield

    Molten Armaments
    Flames of Oblivion
    Rapid Strikes
    Stone Giant
    Burning Breath

    Corrosive Armor

    Choking Talons
    Fragmented Shield
    Green Dragon Blood
    Defensive Stance
    Heroic Slash

    Shifting Standard

To all those who remembers WoW would remember this class. A primal warrior who wields the power of the elements, mostly earthly powers and fire. you have other powers too but for Enhancement Shaman, these is it. I use this class as an offtank kind of character and its really uses alot of magicka abilities for a stamina based build.

Its more controlling the battlefield and using your fire spells to boost your weapon attacks. Keeping the stun up on the target keeps the damage taken down to a minimum. If in any case there are more than two mobs, the second bar uses alot of CC's and making sure the enemies stick to a particular area. I remember using totems for support and CC so i used that theme to incorporate into the build.

Use 5 medium and 2 light pieces to maintain good critical attacks while the light pieces help support the regen and most importantly, the reduced cost of spells.

Paladin Crusader - Stamina based Templar 2 Hander / Sword and Shield

    Blazing Shield
    Blazing Spear
    Solar Barrage
    Rally
    Executioner

    Flawless Dawnbreaker / Crescent Sweep

    Binding Javelin
    Power of the Light
    Ring of Preservation
    Defensive Stance
    Repentance

    Remembrance

The Retribution paladin was one of the best class in game, with tremendous durability and kill power. Stamina based templar using two handers and sword shield combo has an amazing build continuity, and having the Fighter's guild amazing passives against the undead and demons are just too good to pass up as a Crusader.

Start with Blazing Spear, Rally and Blazing Shield. Jump into the fray with Solar Barrage ( consecration ;P) and use Executioner to weapon weave through the mobs. IF it get too hot to handle though, the second bar can add more durability with Ring of Preservation and Binding Javelin to maintain health. Repentance is a simple no cost skill that helps with post combat, though it really helps with low downtime.

    The Crusader uses
5 heavy armor ( Breton, Nord, Altmer )
    2 Light armor ( Breton, Altmer )

In the Light, We are One.

What do you think about NB 2hand wield? I started with 2HW and I kinda like it more than DW, but I see more people are playing stamina DW.

ITs amazing really. I usually would be able to take down world bosses with two handers much more easily than bows or DW. Rally is just an amazing ability which does not have much negative issues with it. The buff and the heal scales really well with your level and it has save my ass a lot of times.

Either morph for Cleave is also good, depending on your playstyle and build. if you have a build that centers upon the uptime of Ultimate, than having Carve is better. If not, Brawler is hands down a better choice for the morph since the damage shield is useful in both PvE and PvP.

Check out my Marksmanship 2hander bar and my Survivalist dual wield bar. You can also use both of this to create a weaponmaster type of build, a... Arms Warrior if you know my connotations from WoW.

    Hope this helps!

Really interesting build you got there mate! and thanks on the support, it helps when peeps know that you can play this game to themes and just for kicks. Endgame is a different beast definitely, dont let me say otherwise, but it is good to know some off kilter builds are making it good even in endgame.

I'd be interested in seeing your take on a 2H/1H-shield NB "Deathknight/Shadowknight" concept. Some of the NB skills seem adequate for tanking, and could certainly DPS well with 2H.

Deathknight / Bloodknight - Stamina based tank / dps with Sword and Shield / 2 Hander

    Heroic Slash / Swallow Soul
    Spiked Bone Shield
    Siphoning Attacks
    Inner Rage
    Power Extraction

    Bolstering Darkness

    Rally / Forward Momentum
    Carve
    Mass Hysteria
    Dark Shades
    Wrecking Blow

    Bolstering Darkness

The Death Knight class was among the newer 'Hero' class that came up in the Wrath of the Lich King. It was amazing what you could do with the Death Knight with their blood, frost and plague talents. There were a few notable abilities from the death knight that i had to make do because of class restrictions such as death grip ( IT was the only ability that was relevant from the Dragonknight to be honest... well that and dragon blood. ) I loved how the Blood Knight was able to tank well with self heals and shields.

This build does not have a gap closer but it does have a range taunt which uses magicka instead of stamina. This is to kind of to replicate the 'Death Grip' ability. So as a tank, you range taunt, pop bone shield, Power Extraction and Heroic Slash. You can also change that ability with Swallow Soul on heavy fights with bosses.

The two hander bar however, increases the survivability with Dark Shades giving the Minor Maim and Mass Hysteria for lesser mobs to handle. It is meant to deal with groups, and while Brawler seems better off, i find Carve to be better for popping Bolstering Darkness which is kind of the Plague attack on the ground. Wrecking Blow is just that simple Blood Strike or Frost Strike which was essential with the Death Knight.

Hope this satisfies your need to feed on bodies ( heh) I had a few more ideas on Frost Mage and Fury / Arms Warrior but i need a few more tries to make it feel like the original characters in WoW.

Thanks for the response. I wasn't necessarily looking for the WoW deathknight equivalent (sorry for using the term), just more of the life-leeching/toxic theme of EQ2's shadowknight or the "anti-paladin".

    This is entirely adequate, thanks!

Awesome! Congrats and be prepared for a long slog ahead. I havent had time to fully utilise the points but if I remember correctly, I usually use points in blocking, quick recovery, physical damage, magical damage, stam recovery, stamina costs and magicka cost. These are my main trees and I never had any reason to go to others as much as these.

While many might see blocking as a tank point, having better resource management helps much thus with blocking cost reduced or more blocking really helps in the long run. Quick recovery is the healing received choice and this will definitely help you much in survivability. While potions usage is nice, this cp will be taking healing from all sources and not just potions. The rest are pretty much self explanatory.

Themed builds would be extremely fun if it was truely possible, but sadly, with predesigned spells and abilities such things arent possible, maybe if and when spellcrafting comes, I was truely dissapointed at first when I realised I cant be a fully fire themed sorceror.

I guess it is really up to you what you want with your character. I simply use the overall 'feel' of the class I am trying to emulate And make it work to a certain degree. I can't exexpect the same spells and abilities, its a different game altogether and its rrally better using the multitudes of abilities eso has.

This build looks something akin to what I am looking for. Something with some decent defense (in GrnDrgnBld, FragShield, Stone Giant and Defensive Stance) as well as having decent damage output.

I'm looking for something to play as a Khajiit, though I think My Dunmer DK would benefit from this a tad more..

EDIT: I ended up finding a great Sorc build through Battlemaster's Corner (Thunderous Destroyer) And am using that with my Khajiit :D

    The "Druid".

A protector of nature that uses earth magic, healing magic, and brutal melee attacks to combat foes. Can shapeshift to become an even more savage combatant!

    Stamina DK

    5 Medium / 2 Heavy

Primary Bar 2-Handed Maul: Critical Charge, Wrecking Blow, Stonefist, Rally, Execute, Flawless Dawnbreaker

Secondary Bar Restoration Staff: Immovable, Vigor, Regenerate, Quick Siphon, Igneous shield, Werewolf

Good set bonuses to aim for: Weapon damage, max stamina, max health, max magicka, armor, spell resistance, +healing done

This build is aimed at staying in your enemy's face and repeatedly beating then with light attacks, wrecking blows, executes, and stonefists when you want instant cc and to proc stamina/minor brutality. I swap to resto bar to spam stamina+magicka heals, and to buff my resistance with immovable, which also makes me immune to CC so I can get those heals off freely. I use Igneous shield very often as well to boost all my heals by 30% and for the cool earthy graphic =D

Werewolf form is my favorite, and is quite beastmode. You should never sacrifice stamina for magicka with this build, but since I do get some extra magicka from passives, set bonus, and those amazing prismatic glyphs, my magicka heals scale decently.

I love this idea, though I actually use it in-game, so make of that what you will.

    The Meridian Beacon
Katerina Malinenko sees herself as a Light on Nirn in the service to her deity, the Lady of Infinite Energies. She is determined to be a beacon to the lost, an aid to the injured, and a scourge to her foes.

    Magicka Templar

    7 Light

Primary Bar: [can use any or no weapon, Kat usually uses no weapon when she can or a Resto staff when she must]: Vampire's Bane, Breath of Life, Lingering Ritual, Inner Light, Radiant Glory | Practiced Incantation

Secondary Bar: [can use any or no weapon, Kat usually uses no weapon when she can or a sword and shield when she must]:
Purifying Light, Breath of Life, Blazing Spear, Inner Light, Puncturing Sweeps | Dawnbreaker of Smiting

    Current sets:
    5x Healer and 5x Twice-Born Star

    Other recommended sets:
Magnus, Julianos, Seducer, anything magicka really.

The goal of this build (and the goal of Kat in the game) is to be a dual purpose healer/DPS. If I group her for dungeons, I do of course change her skill bars around, but this is how I leave them for questing and how I feel fits the theme best.

The goal is also to be as bright as possible at all times and turn the Lighting graphics up to Ultimate. ;)

Hmmm Templar has a feeling of druid too...

I could see sorc bosmer. Run pets with werewolf, and staff. I bet you could make it work, but lore wise it seems pretty cool. I guess doesn't have to be bosmer, I guess any race could work, probably Khajit would be cool too.
