Warnings For Consumable Crown Purchase - Please Refund Crowns

The other day when ZOS first released the new motifs on the crown store, I went ahead and purchased the Dwemer motif book but didn't realize at the time that it was bound to a single character only, not account wide. There was no warning at the time of purchase stating something like "Warning - The purchase of this item is bound to a single character and cannot be transferred". Now all I want is my crowns refunded. I will buy it again, but on my main crafter instead. I opened a ticket up for it immediately after it happened a couple of days ago, but haven't heard from ZOS yet.

Actually though, for a motif book of this expense, you would think it would be something that could be used account wide.

All Crafting Motifs are usable by one character on your account, and do not have a crafting level prerequisite.

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/164797/crown-store-updates-and-new-items

It kinda said so, I guess. I think their support is the only ones that can help you here.

Yes, that's true, if I had read the forum before the time of purchase, I would have been fine. Unfortunately, I didn't. And some people don't read the forums at all. So there should still be a in-game warning.

I've got to say I agree with you @Ashtaris in this case.

Usually situations like this occur because the buyer was too lazy to read what was presented to them before parting with their cash/gold and then got buyer's remorse .. but in this case the information was NOT THERE at 'point of sale'.

And, given the price, and the fact that ALL OTHER items in the Store have been 'advertised' as BoA then it was entirely reasonable to assume this would be the case with these items as well, in the absence of CLEAR and PROMINENT statements to the contrary.

Thanks for your feedback on this, everyone. We'll definitely pass it along to the folks in charge of the Crown Store items and tooltips. As @pppontus pointed out, the character-bound nature of these motifs is noted in the forum post announcing the addition of these items, and we also included it in our Welcome Back Weekend kick-off article.

Basically, motifs purchased from the Crown Store function in the same way that they do if you find or purchase them in-game. That is, you can purchase/acquire the motif on one character, place it in your bank for another character to use, but once you've opened the motif on one character, the motif is consumed and not usable on other characters.

    Thanks again for the feedback!

Wait a second....2nd paragraph there. If that was the case the whole problem would not exist...

The OP seems to be saying that is not true. He cannot bank it and open/consume it on another character. The motif is locked to the character he was on when he opened the Crown Store and purchased it. That may a legitimate bug. I don't think people should be able to buy crown motifs and sell them to other players for gold, but they should be able to give them to their own alts.

    This is very true.

@ZOS_AmeliaR you didn't address the OP's complaint about his experience.

If the crafting level requirements for purple and gold motifs are suspended for Crown Store purchased ones, then that's not true.

In this case if they were the same, would the OP have had this problem in the first place?

Yeah I think this got a bit mixed up, the bundles say the books are bound to account. The individual motifs don't.

Did you read that book on the Character you purchased it on? If you haven't according to @ZOS_AmeliaR post above you should be able to put it in your bank and use it on another character. If you cannot put it in the bank then that's a whole separate issue.

Oh wait. Did you read it on one character and expect all your characters to be able to craft Dwemer at that point? Or is the motif book stuck in your inventory because you cannot bank it or pass it to your alt? If the former, that is how motifs have always worked. I would not expect crown motifs to be any different.

If the latter, that seems like a bug.

I saw some chat about this in game. It seems that if you purchase the motif under character A but want to open/use it on character B you cannot. Whatever character purchases the motif, has the motif bound to that character. So if you want character B to use the motif, then character B has to purchase it as it stands right now.

I am sure they are trying to stop anyone from purchasing these and selling them. The motifs just need to be bound to account like some weapons and other goodies when you purchase it so they can bank it and let the proper character use it.

Either I'm blind, or just missed it, but I could have swore that when I went to try and put the motif in the bank the first time, it didn't show on the consumables inventory list for deposit. Today I tried it again and there it was. So I was able to get it transferred to my main crafter and all is well again. Sorry for the false alarm.
