In PvP will you die in a second without time to react?

    Edit:fixed.

I assume the question is do you experience lag to the extent that it appears that you have died within 1 second and with no time to react. If so then the answer is yes sometimes the lag for me is so bad that on my screen I see myself being hit by one treb shot or one arrow at full health and then I'm dead. I check the death recap and it says I've been hit by the same person with two fire treb shots or two arrows with poision dots.

Lag effects everyone though OP although obviously being as far away as we are from both servers we do probably get it a little more often than others. The game certainly crashes, lacky bands and freezes more for me than other people I play with from the US.

Thank you, you assume correctly. It's good to know. The train why i am is some people respond very quickly and others are sloth like at best.

A huge advantage and puts me of playing the game. So be it.

I am in New Zealand and the ping is an average of 250 which means when fighting 1 vs 1 with someone with a ping of 110, yes it will be hard unless I am using my DK, then I just hit the same keys and they can't kill me anyway and might kill themselves.

But in zergs, everyone ends up with bad pings, so it even outs a little. Server side lag kills everyone evenly :)

Yes, and this makes being stun-locked by EP DK vamp zerg-monkeys even more infuriating. By the time I managed to break free (IF I manage to break free) I'm dead, because all his buddies were wailing on me while my client was trying to catch up with the stun-lock. It's one of the main reasons I don't PVP often (that and the prevalence of EP DK vamp zerg-monkeys

And it's not just PVP. I notice the high ping in PVE too.

For eample take Bogdan the Nightflame, the boss of vet Elden Hollow. He does this attack where he leaps up and slams down dealing massive damage even when blocking. If you don't block you almost always die. Now, I'm usually one that keeps a close eye on boss mechanics and shout warnings to my team mates, but with that bugger, by the time I see him leap up and shout a warning, he's already come down on the server side and 1 or 2 of us die before we can block. We've started getting those with lower latency to watch like a hawk and shout a warning.

A less deadly example would be picking mats from nodes. I see a bugloss with no one around, sprint to it and attempt to pick it, but oh, "Someone else is using that". WTF? I ask, only to have someone with a lower ping saunter up to it and pick it right in front of me because his packets got to the server first. :pensive:

I'm Aussie and usually get 250-300 ping on average.
    Bigger groups it get's worse.
I find it is hard in 1v1 or ambush when against a really good player.
The delay seems to be a big disadvantage especially when you get stunned.
The time to break out then recover and cast is a killer.
I tend to try and hang with a group or on the fringes.

One day there will be a MMO where enough Kiwis and Aussies play on it that they will base a server near us (Singapore maybe)

But the current cost for hosting a MMO server in New Zealand or OZ is insane compared to Singapore or the USA.

The bugloss lag means there's about 4 seconds of lag.

This doesn't just affect people outside of the USA. I live on the east coast of the US (North Carolina to be a little more exact), and I constantly see pings of 200+. And that's when no one else is using the connection. Internet connectivity in rural America is downright atrocious.

    4285052241.png

Now, I know some of you are going to look at that and say "OMG, that's amazing." However, it is an extremely POOR representation of my latency in ESO and other games. Here's a screenshot of my ping in-game. I have two reports of it, so it's fairly reliable info.

Many, many of the best PvPers in DC/NA are from "Oceanic" places, and most have told me they have 300+ latency at all times - minimum.

Conveniently, in PvP, everyone's ping shoots up so high that it sort of renders everyone, no matter where they are, unable to play in any reasonable way.

It might just be that if Cyrodiil's technical problems are ever solved it might get even harder for those in Australia, New Zealand and other places distant from the NA servers, as those in NA suddenly have the ability to play in something approximating real time when there's more than 6 people around.

I guess compounding my issue on top of the 300ms latency is the fact that I can only stomach the frustration of PvP with a gutful of ***.
I assume this adds latency of an extra 100ms per glass of JD and Coke.
By the end of a big night I can end up with a 2000ms ping!

It makes PvP more difficult but it doesn't explain 20+ minutes of everyone being unable to attack each other and cast abilities

@BrassRazoo , yeah, we had our tank "timeout" in a group dungeon before the boss fight due to Polish Vodka once...

OP, have an Aussie friend that recommended "Battle Ping." Said it helped - might check it out.

I'd dare say that something server side could average out the latency of all involved (evening the suck, at least).

I'm hesitant to recommend the add code to essentially introduce lag. I'd rather they just fix it so it's not present.

Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

What players are doing in PVP is holding down the bow heavy attack and instead of releasing they click poison arrow and it fires the poison arrow AND the heavy attack in one shot.

250ms 300ms most days, larger battles it can sit around 400 (excluding the 10k extremes when its just crap for everyone).

Have no real way of knowing if it affects gameplay that much sure it must to a certain extent. I die quick at times but many do in the situations I find myself in.

Has always been that way since I first started online multiplayer Rogue Spear with a 56k modem against Aussie clans.

    Just one of those things

It is usually back to back snipes. So what I should have seen was my character going to the ground from the cc followed by a second arrow hit but what I see is one arrow hit and then dead. :'(

I'll be honest. Those are my favourite things to do in PvE. I don't do it in PvP because I'm usually dead because of my own foolishness before I can. As for the topic at hand, I'm an Aussie and 240-310 ping is about normal for me and I really don't have that much of an issue in PvP when I'm not being stupid.
