Dueling in PVE

I think it would be awesome if while in the PVE areas, you could challenge another player to a duel, and then be able to fight each other right there. No one else could intervene, only the two of you could fight it out. Both players would have to agree to the duel, but, there would be some kind of "cowardly" scale so that if you declined, not lost, a certain number of duels, you would get some kind of penalty, like say 1% higher costs at merchants or something. What do people think of this idea?

I don't care for the idea as I do not yet PvP, and your suggestion at the end ties it to PvE.. as in, I don't want open world PvP therefore "decline" all duels and am now having to pay more at merchants?

Although, if it was NOT tied to be PvE and was completely optional, I would be alright with it :)

I like the idea of dueling but don't like the punishment idea. Either player wants to duel or he doesn't, no need to force people into accepting duels they don't want to fight.

I want the ability to duel another player with a simple win/lose mechanic as in many MMO's. I thing this would be great for holding tournaments, ect. I would not like to see any consequence tied to it, but perhaps a title as a reward for winning maybe 5000.

Cowardly penalty? What ever gave you that idea? Other than that everything is good. On the contrary if they implement this I think they should have a "you challenged too many people to a duel and they declined" penalty in the form of a bounty. Kinda like in real life if you go around challenging people to fights the police arent gonna like that.

The problem I have with the PVP in Cyrodill is that it's almost always huge groups and it becomes so chaotic, it's never like a one on one fight. It's mass of mobs on mobs.

So maybe the idea of penalizing someone for not accepting a duel it's a good idea. Still, I would like it if in the PVE zones, you could engage in a little one on one fighting to test your mettle against others. Cyrodill is too chaotic to be a test, at least for me. Also in Cyrodill unless you are like a VR6 or higher, you are nothing but meat on the table. My VR1 DK Tank is lucky to last a minute once combat is initiated in Cyrodill.

Duels need to be introduced. But I think an arena would be better so that cross faction duelling can take place. This will also allow for a kind of progression system, LBs etc. This is a pipe dream however - ZOS have made it quite clear that this kind of content is not going to be coming any time soon, if at all.

In the meantime if you are playing on the EU server and want to get involved in duelling, the Arena guild offers regular duels! Just whisper me in game (@Lastobeth) or send me a message on here and I will send you an invite. Providing you have a V14 char and are interested in PvP (duels particularly) you are welcome!

I think 1v1 dueling in PVE is a great idea. Being punished for not wanting to participate in 1v1 dueling, terrible idea. That could easily be abused and it is just unfair for the folks who don't want to pvp.
...I think they should have a "you challenged too many people to a duel and they declined" penalty in the form of a bounty...

I like the idea of gaining bounty, however, I think it would be more fun if it was the other way around. If you go on a winning streak you can obtain a temporary title of sorts. This could entice people to challenge those title holders, beating them would remove their title and maybe there could be some sort of 'Duel Log Book'. Where it would track your personal duel history.

This could also lead to some sort of Dueling Leaderboard. I dunno, I'm just spitballing ideas.

No thank you for a penalty for refusing to duel.

If dueling was purely optional, I'm fine with it. As long as it has no effect on those who don't want to duel.

This is a real bad idea. I hate dueling and it gets annoying when players keep challenging you to a duel. Then to put a penalty on it people because they don't want to duel is a real bad idea.

OK so the idea of punishing someone for refusing to duel is a bad idea. Would you like it if there was no punishment for refusing to duel? Or do you just not like the idea that if you refuse too many you will be punished?

Best thing would be to have arena's
Just a square area on the map in a few locations (every town could have one like outside of the town) where people can attack eachother without consequence, its better because you don't have people mindlessly spamming you with duel invites.

No fancy BS, you just step into the square area in the back of the town and fight, as long as you stay inside the square you are target-able, if your health hits zero your char is stunned for 2s and becomes un-attackable for 3~5 sec , a flag comes up and says you were defeated and your health and stats are reset back to full.

Just make a large square fenced i n area where a few people can brawl . . .atleast for starters.

A gambling system would be cool (both players give an NPC gold) NPC holds the gold until the fight is over, hands over the gold to the winner.

What about various arenas in cities where people can bet on themselves? Winner take other person's money. You will see the list and decide to challenge or not depending on the person's fame and the bet. People who just want to practice, they can bet 0. They can actually even do it 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3. This way nobody is messing with the PVE crowd.

P.S. I will prefer an open PVP server but that will probably never happen. :(
