Hireling/writ purple provisioning ingredients prerequisites

pecheckler

Is increasing or maxing recipe quality and/or recipe improvement a prerequisite to receiving purple provisioning ingredients for a character with rank 50 provisioning?

Or is just having 3/3 hireling and rank 5 enough. Is there a difference in chance with quality/improvement levels?

And how about crafting writs? Do i need to place 6/6 in improvement and 3/3 in quality before I can receive crafting writs which reward purple ingredients?

Level 50 provisioner for a long time. Almost all the skill points invested. I chose not to spend time on writs and received 2 frost miriam from l2 hireling from Upadate 1.6 until this week, when I started doing writs. I received 3 for the first writ, and no more yet. Still no more from hireling.

I get Purple Recipes on all my Provisioners, even the ones who have only points in the Recipe Level and nothing else.

Note I don't think there are any L2 Purples, they might only start at L3.

And, since Recipe Level determines whether you get L1, or L2 etc, keep that in mind if your chasing a certain level of Recipe. For example, I can make L30, L35 and L40 Purple Foods, and that is rare for that level of character. But I needed to have the Recipe Level set to L3/L4 to get those recipes from Writs.

As for Purple Ingredients, not sure on that. While I see Frost Mirriam and Bervez Juice on every level of writ reward, it seems that the Provisioners who have the points in Recipe Complexity get more of the stuff. But that could also be from them being higher ranked too.

I've been doing Provisioning Writs on all my characters, and have only ever received purple ingredients from my provisioner that has the points invested to craft purple recipes. I have, however, found a purple recipe in a writ for one of my characters who can only craft green recipes (one of the new L20 purples - Greef).

This may just be a result of RNG, though.

I really wish Zenimax bothered to clarify stuff like this, like every other MMO does. Skill points are too valuable to invest when there is no clear answer.

Come to think of it, I have not seen Purple Ingredients on my low level provisioners in a while, perhaps they nerfed it for those levels.

To the OP, just be thankful it was not like Pre 1.6. Where they only way to get Purples was to have Hirelings, and you needed L3 in the Hireling to boot.

No, there's a L25 Purple Recipe "Sweet Skeever Gumbo" and Jayne_Doe mentioned a L20 recipe "Greef". they would both be L2 Provisioning Recipes.

That's good, not sure if I am going to use a Frost Mirriam on this low of a recipe, but it is good to know that these are L2s. I will soon have 3 characters doing L2's.

I picked up another purple L20 recipe yesterday with beef in it. My current go-to provisioning data source have none of these purple recipes listed.

#Edit: I might use Frost Mirriam on those levels, but only if I intend to advance the characters.

My provisioner is level 10 with max rank in Provisioning and all the skill points invested and yet I only get to craft level 40 items for the writs which result in tier 6 rewards. Is there a minimum level as well to get the tier 9 rewards that reward the purple ingredients and recipes ? If so does anyone know what it might be?

Yes, I think so. I believe it follows the same progression as the Overall Crafting System. L1/5/10/15 for Provisioning 1 then two grades of levels (+5/+10) for each following Provisioning Level limited by whether your character VR or not, which is a "state change" where it changes to VR1/VR4/VR7/VR9.

Prior to v1.6 you changed available materials at multiple of 10+15 ie L15, L25, L35 and L45 for recipes and other crafting. I can't confirm that for you as I'm not currently leveling another character up through L1-L50

I find them in containers in the game, Mob Loot and from Crafting Writ Reward Containers (mostly from the writ containers)

You will start seeing Purple Recipes at Tier 2 of the Crafting Writ Containers (L20 Recipes and up), but its questionable if you need Purple Foods until VR Ranks, and purple ingredients are super rare (only come from Provisioning Writ rewards and Hirelings)

You can also find them in Guild Kiosks for sale. Fortunately they are now mostly less than 10K in gold, usually in the 5,000 to 8,000 price range.

I have also found that they are pretty cheap to just buy the completed foods. Most of the time, your paying replacement cost of the ingredients for completed foods. The profit comes from farming the ingredients for the crafter.

@Jarv69 and @Yvonnell If I understand you correctly, you have characters with level 50 in provisioning PLUS all skill points into recipe lines? Both of you are under VR. Maybe you can only get the highest tier writ if you are able to drop it off in Craglorn? Which would mean you have to be vet?

I'm not sure of this, but maybe that's the problem?

In truth, you probably won't need purple food/drink. It gives you boosts to all of your stats but the boosts are two thirds the boost you would get from a blue recipe boosting only two stats. If you're specialised to Magicka then a boost to Stamina isn't really worth it and vice versa. So you'll probably get the best effects using Tea/Liqueur for Regen or Ragout/Savouries for Stat Boost.

Oh hey @pecheckler ... To answer your question bout the ingredients... They don't spawn in containers anywhere that I have seen. Frost Myriam and the special juice for drinks are obtained by doing provisioning writs and through the hireling. Though ... The hireling doesn't give much at all.

I finally got rid of my one provisioner hireling, since I found that I would get more purple ingredients from the writ rewards than I would from my hireling. I didn't pay the respec cost just for that, though, I had some other skills that I wanted to adjust, but it was nice to get back 3 points to put into something more useful to me.

I have received, maybe once or twice, purple ingredients in a writ reward bag for a character that can only make green level recipes, so it is possible.

Same thing for me - one of the first Provisioning writs I ever turned in I got both Frost Miriam and Bervez Juice from the reward. Total provisioning level was sub 25, and I didn't know any purple recipes and only a few blues.

Done over a week's worth or writs since then, and not seen and purple provisioning mats since.

Doing daily writs and receiving daily hireling deliveries I still don't have enough Mirriam Frost to make the food I need to cover my regular amount of daily play. Before 1.6 I had loads of ingredients which are not all useless. The entire complexity of the provisioning system is a mute point when it all boils down to two ingredients which matter and have limited availability.

Also I read that items like provisioning items like tomatoes and oats were supposed to convert to Mirriam Frost and Bervez juice but that didn't happen for me and I had at least 100 of every provisioning ingredient saved up when that patch dropped.

Hmm...all of my tomatoes and oats converted, and I had over a 100 of each of them. In fact, I now have 200 of each (Frost Mirriam & Bervez Juice) and just put the extras in the guild bank. I got rid of my provisioning hireling since I can still get purple ingredients from writs.

I'm assuming you have the passives that allow you to make 3 extra servings? This helps reduce how many ingredients you need. Also, unless you're a hybrid character (i.e. using stamina and magicka fairly equally), you're actually better off with blue food, which gives you a greater boost to health and either magicka/stamina.

That is indeed the issue. You have to be able to drop off in Level 5-6 zones in order to receive those level Prov Writs, otherwise even with all passives you will max at level 4 prov writs with Zone 4 drop offs.
