Would flying mounts ever work?

I wanted to know your opinions on this. Do you think flying mounts would ever work in ESO, and would you even want them if they did?

No, then you would have groups in PvP fly into home temples and take scrolls, and keeps without even seiging the outside wall

No, and that is because of the game engine. That is also why we don't have underwater exploration unfortunately.

No because each level would need to be redesigned, especially the borders around the zones because you would see unfinished areas the you normally don't see from the ground. I know this because I been in the map areas the are unfinished. Also the top of many of the buildings don't support collision detection.

At least FFXIV is doing it properly with flying mounts. Though it is pretty much copied straight from WoW, they do have some fly-only zones (IE: Where you'll die if you don't fly. This is why the main scenario in that MMORPG is giving a flying mount for free in Heavensward.)

In wow, flying mounts ruined the world exploration and collection of resources to the point that in its last expansion they completely removed that possibility.

Besides this type of mount (flying) favor the use of bots for resource gathering, which is something that certainly none at community wants.

Gives a strategic advantage for those who can access in regard those who can not when seeking or attempting to locate a target.

Allow to avoid obstacles (posts there intentionally for challenge purpose) breaking with many of the game mechanics.

In games where it was removed, people complained endlessly, and when they experience the difference, instantly adopted the new game mode positively.

In TESO TU, traveling is not a problem as there are a good amount of Wayshrines.

Also I think having the sky of cities full of users in their big flying mounts, surely undermine the natural charm of the landscape.

No, definitely is not something I want to see here.

I'll admit, I thought flying mounts were fun times in WoW. That said, I really, really, really don't want to see them in ESO.
  • Earthwardzilvox_ESO
I don't see why they couldn't work. The only real difficulty is cutting off access to certain areas, which can be done with invisible walls, instances, ceilings, impassable tree canopies, etc. Plus, flying is fun in every game.

Not without a huge overhaul to both PvP and PvE zones. What is to stop people from flying over enemy keep walls for example? I personally believe that flying mounts should stay out of ESO.

I would like flying mounts, as long as ZOS out actual thought into it, as opposed to trying to implement the feature and make money off of it as fast as possible. I think it would be quite nice to see lore appropriaye flying mounts that had a purpose beyond skipping wayshrines or afking mid-air.

I'd also like people to realize that some people - in my experience the vast majority - don't care at all for exploration.

Anyway...please don't go 'I don't like flying for this and that reason, let's not have it.' Instead, perhaps go outside the box and ponder how to implement it without destroying this and that reason. For example, you could be limited to flying only in places where you'd already discovered a wayshrine, and no further.

    1) Flying afkers would ruin the landscape - an exscuse not to draw those players on the screen, add an option in the video settings section.

    2) Would ruin exploration - limit flying mounts the same way waushrines are. Limit them even more by adding in more points of interest, then require players to discover them in order to fly in that area. Add flying mobs. I don't know about anyone else, but I think looking at Nirn from above would be a gorgeous view, and it would definitely prompt me to explore some more (unlike currently, where I don't explore at all).

    3) I don't know anytjing about the engine and how limited it is. If someone has any info on that, would be great :)

    4) There are better things the devs could be doing - anything in this area is purely opinion, imo. I'd gladly wait a little longer for new dungeons to get flying. Let's leave the whole I think expanding this area lf the game is more important than that area of tbe game out of it.

On a phone and almost midnight, pardon the typos and possible other mistakes I missed, etc etc.

I wouldn't think "flying" mounts would work, however I'd like to to see ridable netches and mini silt stiders that mechanically work the same as horses however visually don't touch the floor.

Eso zones are to small for it. The world isnt open. If you go up a bit, you would see the map borders as pixel mess.

Flying mounts would only make sense if the world would be open. And not instanced zones as we have in eso. And to be honest, the zones arnt that big that we would need it.

Tamriel also lacks the animal to make the flying mount. Besides dragons. But the era eso plays wouldnt make that possible. There also arnt that many dragons around to serve every single player as mount. Dragons also wouldnt let anybody fly them.

I don't want typical flying mounts for the many reasons stated above. What I would like though, is a mount that hovers off the ground, or gives the illusion of that, but functions like a regular mount. So it's only like a small animation thing and not a whole new game mechanic.

Well dragons aren't active in this time period so they are out.

Cliffies aren't really big enough although players mounted on Cliff Racers would be quite the sight to see, especially in Cyodiil.

Netches would be quite dangerous as they can be temperamental (and kill you quite easily with their tentacles).

I wouldn't mind riding a Silt Strider. But I don't really think that can be classified as a flying mount. Just one with really long legs.

I dont even find a lore excuse for a flying mounts.

One hero 800 years ahead of our current lore actually rode a dragon. But thats it.

They could probably get away with making a flying zone (maybe some dragon related content) but not mounts that can fly everywhere, in every zone.
