Zonealarm Internet Security Firewall & ESO

intrimazz

After this patch, I cannot log into ESO with Zonealarm Internet Security Suite - when I close out ZA, I can log in fine. I have all the TCP/UDP ports allowed as stated in the ESO support thread https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9179/kw/firewall names. I would rather not have my firewall disabled. This issue is only with ESO and only after this last maintenance. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to allow ESO.exe again in the firewall rules, each patch changes it so Zonealarm will see it as a new program.

Nope, they're fine, they're working as designed and treat ESO no differently from any other .EXE that gets patched and so its MD5 (or whatever a particular A/V packages uses to fingerprint files) changes.

The usual problem is the user who doesn't know how to use their security products.

Although I appreciate the help, please only respond if you have actually read an OP's comments. I clearly linked the process I went through via ESO's help thread regarding my ports and my firewall is set to allow previously allowed programs. (I even double checked to make sure Zenimax, Bethesda, ESO files were indeed allowed and they are, as expected) Thanks ^.^

note: I am launching the game via the game launcher and as admin and followed these further steps
    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2006/kw/error 201

update: I went ahead and sent in a ticket - will post here if my issue is resolved and how.
    *************

Well, since I am impatient I decided to try one last step that is NOT listed in any of the related links: I went into C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client
and found the eso.exe file - I right-clicked it, and selected run as admin and clicked ok when the user account control window appeared - not only did it let me log in, but it also showed the announcements on the log-in page (which usually does not appear when I log in via the Bethesda launcher)

So to make this permanent, I right-clicked the eso.exe and selected *pin to taskbar* then I right-clicked it again, selected compatibility tab, checked the *run as admin* box, clicked apply then ok

So it seems to be a fault with the Bethesda Launcher and not the game itself. I can now play while protected as usual via my Zonealarm Internet Security Suite ^.^

    I hope this helps others.

(I wonder why the user account control window pops up even tho I have that feature set to off - will need to look into that)

While it's good you found the reason you're having problems, you shouldn't have to "Run as Admin" to run the game, I don't.

You're right, you shouldn't have to and I can run it without turning that on, but I added that for those that may have the user account control feature in Windows turned on.
