Do you want global LFG chat channels?

I am suggesting this because as we're all aware, the group finder doesn't work. A quickly implemented workaround to the issue would be global LFG chat channels, perhaps split up by level range and faction. Would you be in favor of this feature?

I would prefer a group-finding tool that works.

But until then - adding something like this could only help the situation.

People are going to use it for chatting/trading/spam and zone chat is going to die. Zone chat is fine the way it is now. They should fix group finder instead.

What else could we do? Put everyone who owns a cellphone in the same text conversation?

May as well remove all these threads. We only need one mega-thread.

Cellphones are by their very nature two-person communication devices. There are a lot more than two people playing Elder Scrolls Online.

But I don't feel the need to try to convince you, you have obviously made up your mind.

No, because it's a megaserver. The entire population of a side on 1 channel would be a disaster. People wouldn't use it for its intended purpose. Just fix the group finder.

What about a bulletin board interface? Searchable by level, role, class, content (dungeon/trial,etc). Final Fantasy XI did this back in 2004 and it worked quite well. It also fostered better community then a dungeon finder, although it was slower. Certainly better than using zone chat for everything.
End the tedious inventory management game.

Yes, but not as in the whole server. Maybe the same clump of alliance zones, at least for the vr levels. Zone chat is dead quiet there. Grouping all those together would help.

If only done as a broadcast that people could opt into listening for, and with responses to it being "cookie cutter" and not custom/editable, then that may work. Sometimes simple is best and I think they keep over thinking the LFG tool. But there's a fundamental performance design concern with the proposed and is why I qualified my response so much.

A global LFG channel with optional level filters (so I can only show V12-V14 groups)
But if it was a free text channel, it would just be used to spam WTS, WTB etc and that would be just annoying as hell

I would prefer a working tool, but even a global chat would be some improvement. My only concern with such chat would be that they might never fix the tool itself, if we would get a channel for LFG calls.

better than porting through vet zones spamming lfg and moving on. it's getting pathetically sad how far backwards this game can be sometimes and how little is done to improve it.

Unless there's going to be some form of significant moderation, no. An LFG channel would be useless if it is so filled with spam people feel compelled to turn the channel off (looking at you Zone chat).

I think this idea comes about because the lfg tool doesn't function and is limited in its functions when it worked.

    My vote is Maybe.

It would be useful to have until they fix LFG. But I think it could also end up being abused and just used to sell stuff.

you've got a point there. it would be mournhold zone chat except 100 times worse.
    simplest fix: fix the tool.
but being realistic here... that won't happen and a new channel is probably within the abilities of the devs.

Yes, I do, as a matter of fact.

I can see the pros and cons of each. And I have years of experience playing games where users could create their own global or alliance-wide chat channels, so I've seen first hand what they are like...unlike many of the naysayers with their wild imaginings, I'm sure.

It's always the same tired whining when anyone brings up optional features, whether we are talking about dueling, global chat channels, UI improvements, etc. Even when given the option to ignore them completely as if they didn't exist, people still rally against them because God forbid that someone actually plays the game differently than they do.
