Greetings,
I just sat down and perused through yesterday's Twitch stream and something stuck out to me, which was your mention of "Meteor's from a certain set procing to often" (give or take).
I would just like go to over my thoughts the meteor issue and the difference between the two types.
It's an obvious reference to the vaunted Valkyn Skoria Undaunted set. I would just like to express a concern I have with nerfing the proc rate, which I feel isn't the issue at hand meteor wise. Let me start by saying this; Valkyn Skoria's set is quite possibly the most annoying and difficult Undaunted set to currently get in the game, rightfully so, as it has a powerful proc effect and is immensely useful. I have built my build to use and apply as much DoT damage as I can because of this set.
From what I have gathered and even brought up in my guild's TS a few months back as helping promote the lag was an issue with excessive amounts packet info being sent between Client and Server because of particle and effect densities as well as sheer number of server messages due to Player density in certain areas.
With that said I do have to admit, yes Meteor, both the ultimate and the Valkyn Proc are dense AoE particle effects. However, there is a big difference between the two. Valkyn's meteors are not controlled by the players (i.e : cast on button push), they are proc'd via a 4% chance on DoT damage. Yes, I and others have at times proc'd more than one at once by using DoT AoEs such as Bat Swarm and Liquid Lightning, however they proc and go away, done and done.
Meteor the Ultimate on the other hand can be an issue, I have witnessed first hand what happens with this skill during high latency battles. This is a player controlled ability as I mentioned, and as such when a player(s) in a large scale close combat battle hits their button to cast the latency in play allows for "continual manual casting", not of the damage but of the Spell animation itself.
By mashing the button over and over the spell drops again and again and again, exacerbating the latency issue by adding more and more packet info and particles to both the server as well as to the clients whose players are in view, when you have 2, 3, 5, 10+ players manually casting Meteor at once and either in fear, adrenaline fueled button mashing , or purposefully "Lag casting" it the issue really pushes both Server and Clients over the edge.
So what I am saying is that I belief the issue at hand isn't the Valkyn set, which is handled by the RNG and is proc'd and forgotten, but instead rests almost solely with the Lag casting of The Meteor ultimate. So please, PLEASE do not nerf the proc rate on Valkyn's, it already has one of the lowest chances of the Undaunted sets at 4%, lowering it or even adding a cool down would make the set null and void as the difficulty to attain the set would no longer match it's usefulness.
These are just my personal thoughts on the matter.
