darkrozes_rob16_ESO
Hello, I was surfing my Facebook when i saw the Eso live news, clicked on it to see what's about and when it showed the age confirmation i randomly picked 1999, mainly because i never ever do the right data, since i consider it worthless. Then it tells me Access Denied, and i can't enter the webpage anymore ! HAHAHHA
Who's great ideea was this wonderfull mecanic ? And what's the point of it ?

They put the age gate in when the game got an M rating. Cause...you know apparently 12 years can't do math and just put in the wrong age. It's a minimum standard in order to meet a compliancy created by an idiot bureaucrat somewhere.

Because the game is Rated M for Mature(I don't know the rating systems outside of the US but likely for the same age group), for the demographic of 18+. Legally they have to put an age barrier to prevent younger people from stumbling onto the mature content.

I know that there are a million arguments saying kids see more brutal stuff all the time, but this is a legal reason put into place by the ESRB.

I would have clicked the lol button if it was still there and I am even tempted to post that lol gif from Team America but I would probably get in trouble heh.

Now come on. You have to be more clever that the age blocker.
"And it's important to state that our decision to go with subscriptions is not a referendum on online game revenue models. F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models - but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being "monetized" in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days. The fact that the word "monetized" exists points to the heart of the issue for us: We don't want the player to worry about which parts of the game to pay for - with our system, they get it all."

As far as I knew the ESRB is not an entity that can enforce or create laws that bar kids from buying games. The stores are the ones that do this themselves.

It has nothing to do with buying the game - it has everything to do with Zenimax covering its butt in the event that a parent has a child use the interwebs without parental awareness and accesses content without their permission - the parent can't go after Zenimax (presumably...I'll be the first to admit...American Legal system makes no sense to me...after all they sued amazon and google...).

It's the same as the stupid "you are about to access a site of quasi-acceptability you hereby verify that you are of the proper werewithall to view said content" that you see on most adult sites. (Paraphrased for obvious reasons, the gods only know what might get [snipped] from some of those particular warnings.)

Because rated m is for 18+ and if you were born in 1999 you are not 18+.

It's rules that the stores have to follow.

If little 13 year old johnny went into gamestop and bought call of duty with his birthday money and his mom came home and didn't like what he was playing she could file a lawsuit at the game store for selling a violent game to her son.

With the rating saying 18+ and the store needing little johnny to have a parent that consents to him playing it there can't be a lawsuit because the parent allowed it.

Some times the idiot are the parents for a young child that let the kid surf on the web without supervision or age controls.

For that reason, and for avoid legal problems some bureaucrat created this compilancy, so many irresponsible parents or guardians can continue to enjoy their negligence.

You have to confirm you're ok with the new age rating the first time you log in after the 1.6 update too. It's just a click of a button but it's the same as accepting terms and conditions on a website: it means the company have told you and you've accepted so you're to blame if that becomes a problem.
