In fact the Class Quest chains, which essentially drive all level progression, are designed to be fully soloable.
And the Class Quest Story Arcs are considered one of the strong-points of the game by a majority of players, as can be seen by the consternation caused that no new CQ content has been added as the level-cap rises.

GW2, all the way except for the final quest was forced-solo, the final fight was deliberately designed as a forced-group fight due to the 'epicness' of what you were supposedly doing.
From what I've seen so far this game is at least equal to Guild Wars 2 for the amount of solo content. In that game the entire storyline (except one instance, which is a dungeon) can be done solo and all the open world stuff can be done without being in a party. Some of it would be impossible to do solo but since everyone who participates gets credit you can effectively play with anyone who happens to be around without having to plan in advance and form a party.
This game seems pretty similar. All the quests I've done so far can be completed solo and all the open-world stuff can be done solo or with anyone who's around. I did find one public dungeon which recommended I should be in a party but even then there were enough people about that it didn't matter.
Having said that I do agree that if you buy a massively multiplayer online game you should expect to have to play with other people at least some of the time. Especially at end-game. Early on it makes sense to have more solo content so players can get to grips with the basics and have time to get to know people, but in general playing with other people seems like a fairly major part of the game, not something to avoid at all costs.
It's just so baffling to me how many people play an MMORPG and want to solo everything and get mad and leave when they are forced to group in a MASSIVE ONLINE game. It seems to happen in this game the most. ZOS tries to get people to group during the solo stuff with world bosses, public dungeons, group dungeons, etc. but this game is still incredibly solo friendly and it's bizarre people are still complaining it's not solo-friendly enough.

Except your friends are just there to watch and are not doing the quests you are doing (for main class stories). And if you are both the same class, you need to do the quest all over again for your friend because it only registers you. All SWTOR does for main stories is an advanced version of spectator mode.
I don't even comprehend how this game is considered a "group" game. It's a solo game with a few group things in it.
