Sometimes, you need to think like a game designer.

WHY would you put a one-day timer on something?

So that people play every day, if only a few minutes.
    [...]
So think of a fully trained horse as a 180 day loyalty bonus. It gives you *massive* perks, but you need to play the game at least that many times, on separate days, in order to get it.

The thing is I cannot play every single day, even for few minutes. For me to fully train a horse would take around a year, ONE TRAIT ONLY. If I could train my horsie 3 times a day I would earn a good steed in 180 days. Not maxed, but decent - fast and sturdy, battle-ready for Cyro. And that would be OK, I won't be v14 sooner anyway ;)
Too much of that "stickiness" factor will just "unstick" the less dedicated players sooner or later. For example, why do you have to research all the traits for every single type of weapon or piece of armor? Why your blunt weapons have to be "sharpened"? FGS, they are BLUNT!!! At least make all the swords and daggers in one group, axes as a second one and maces and hammers in third, so when you learn a trait from a blunt thingy it will apply to all weapons in that group and you'll have to research this trait only three times instead of 10. Or distribute the traits between each group of weapons, for example "sharpened" for swords and axes, "powered" for hammers and maces and so on, so each group has 6 traits from 10 in total (the numbers may be incorrect, I don't remember how many and what traits exactly there are).

Edit: I'm also a social psychologist and I don't mind slow progress in game. Actually I level very slow because I like to embrace every aspect of the game - doing every single quest and dungeon, fishing, gathering mats... or simply strolling straight ahead and admiring the viev of Tormenting Spire  But I'm... different :P , most people have to see their goal in reach, or they just drop it. And usually this "reach" is not very long, especially for young people.

I really wish we are in the old EQ days, were waiting for specific thing to achieve or to happen was such a goal. Nowadays, all I hear in these forums is asking for instant gratification.

The riding system is fine as it is. Time sink is time sink (I believe previous poster just mentioned this).

I was only pointing out that it's not critical for anyone to have a maxed out riding skill. People want to rush to the finish line but then complain when there isn't anything to do.

I do agree somewhat with this. For me, getting the bag space maxed out is goal number one. That is after I get the horse up to 30 points in Speed, which is fast enough for PvE. I know PvP helps to have a faster horse, but one of my characters has a horse at 50 points in Speed and it is just kind of weird. I don't maintain gallops, and even when I do gallop it does not seem that much faster than the normal run speed. I am not sure I will take any more horses above 30 or 40 in Speed ever again.

I for sure am going to ignore the Stamina upgrades, as the one horse I did do that on did not seem to really benefit from it.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Keep it the way it is. This is just another Skill line that takes time and effort to advance.

    • You choose to advance your skill in riding.

Oh dear, here we go again. Another topic, another request to dumb the game down. Let's just create characters that are VR14 with full champion points, full riding skills, all the morphs, the ability to change race, class and name on the slightest whim, and just do away with all that "playing the game" nonsense that gets in the way of a good MMO.

News flash - it took me around 2.5 months to get my mount to the max level.

    Now you can too.

While you're at it, why don't you ask them to make a spell that magically auto ranks you to VR14. Yeah that sounds good.

A lot of people who are experts at the game and already have a maxed horse may want to have an alt with a good horse. They already have something to be proud of and want to experience the game with a new character. Why should they have to wait a dumb long time to get a new horse leveled up when they have tons of gold rotting and get zero sense of accomplishment from leveling up yet another mount?

What they should have done is give a mount point per level and just make it another customization feature. 64 points to spend between speed, bags and stamina. Works for Magicka, Stam and health.

for anyone saying that this issue is about instant gratification, then think of the following, there are plenty of delayed and rewarding parts of this game without mounts taking a half year to fully level. Getting a max level horse isn't much to be proud of when there is actually challenging content in the game that doesn't just involve paying gold every so many hours to a vendor.

Can we have an option where every extra feeding actually lowers speed stat and an overfed horse model changes to be horribly overweight?
    Would pay gold for that.

I'm not in favor of losing the timers completely. I'm sure Devs put them there for a reason. But I also do not like training limited to only one stat per day. It should be two at minimum. That leaves plenty of 'stickiness', while reducing some of the sense of being a hamster.

Seriously go play EQ circa 2001. Endless camping for rare mobs needed for quests, leaving characters logged into lag crazy zones just to sell things, actual ninja looting, training mobs for griefing, etc. MMOs used to be brutal. I'm looking at you Quillmane.

no, increase the per day limit to 3

that will bring it inline to previous ability when leveling 3 horses at once, and would allow a full riding stat in 60 days.

    Fully support this.

Makes no sense lore-wise either to just feed a horse, etc. once a day.

Um, you're not feeding your horse anymore though. Now you're training yourself. So it's actually worse than us feeding our horses once per day, because now we're not feeding them at all... Although come to think of it, we've never fed our pets either. Man, we are seriously bad animal owners.

Side note: several months ago I was out for dinner with a group of friends when I suddenly, without thinking, exclaimed "oh no, I forgot to feed my horses!" Luckily, 2 of the people I was having dinner with knew exactly what I was talking about...

Stamina will help you stay mounted when you're hit. It also gives the cool armor, so why not? I'm not against them reducing the time or allowing for multiple feedings a day. I am against paying $20 for a maxed out riding skill. Spend $20 on a mount? Sure, why not? As long as it's purely cosmetic.
