And the correct answer is: NO GOOD REASON.
Solution: SELL ADDITIONAL CHARACTER SLOTS IN THE CROWN STORE. NAOW!!!!!!
Problem solved.
They already do... go buy an extra copy of ESO. It's almost functionally identical .
You only need to look at the financial drivers.
1) Put it in Crown Store for 500 crowns per slot (most players will use the 1 month subscription, get 1500 crowns and buy 3 characters) - little to no real revenue stream for ZoS.
2) Make people buy a new copy of the game (anything from £20-30+) and have the hassle of re-logging every time and mailing items to each other...royal PITA and people will give up, but ZoS still have the B2P money. Better revenue stream.
Doesn't mean I agree with it, but hey, what do I know
Alternatively you could say the annoyance of setting up a second account, and mailing items between the two, logging out and back in to collect said items etc. would put off people who would be very willing to buy another character slot, so by not offering this as an option ZOS is losing money.

1) CHAMPION POINTS - the huge grind ZOS have foisted on us is now the NUMBER ONE REASON why a second account doesn't cut it for those of us wanting to play more characters.
2) Bank space is per-account so the huge sums you need to invest in expanding it to a usable size won't help your second account.
3) If you don't have a second account now then the characters on it won't benefit from having several thousand Crowns to spend on mounts or other perks no doubt which will be added down the road.
I guess it depends on one's view of almost but to me a second account is only useful for mules.
So it has started another thing WoW does, linking accounts. In another year this will be even further away from being anything like the Elder Scroll games.
On up side maybe millions of players from WoW will come to ESO and make the game better or just easier?
Where did you get this from? It was explicitly said that you can't link accounts. Wish you could, however. But not a big deal to set up an alias on my server.

Too funny. Once again the game's doomsayers ignore what's already been officially confirmed in the thread, stand on their head and claim the opposite is true.

Maybe because EVERY time ZOS has confirmed something, it's been a bait and switch 180 degrees around to lure their customers?
DO you trust ZOS? Well, do you, punk?!

Hyperbole much? Sure, there may have been some communications issues and such. But EVERY? Really?
In a case like this, it's pretty much a CS request. So I, for one, will take him at his word.

I would expect more like 5000 crowns ($5) a slot. Still cheaper than buying a new copy of the game, but enough to discourage everyone from having 100 characters too.

Oops, my bad. I realized that 500 crowns is $5.
