Last chance to play P2P ESO :(

    Pssst. Wanna know a secret?

It's really still P2P. We (subscribers) automatically get every DLC whereas the whining Millenial me-me-me generation gets to play "for free" and purchase any DLC and Crown Store items they desire.

It's so those "console" kiddies don't have to pay-for-internet, pay-for-xbox-live, AND pay-subscription. Now they just pay more for DLC and other stuff.

But don't tell anyone - they haven't figured it out yet.

    What DLC are those?

They really need to get their game in shape because, in my opinion, it's a mess. I tried to PvP earlier today in Thornblade but was crashing about once every 15 minutes-half hour or so and just decided to stop playing. PvE was fine, didn't crash at all when I was leveling a lowbie. PvP is screwed if they don't fix this.

Come Tuesday, I expect some old players to return to check out the new stuff they didn't stick around long enough to see, but new players? Naah. How many people who haven't already tried it are actually itching to start playing ESO now, one year after the initial launch? And how many of those have not already bought the game and used their "free" 30 days to play before re-launch? Official marketing for Tamriel Unlimited screams "Old players, please come back, the game is much better now, we promise!"

For PvE, I definitely agree that the game is better than ever. It's more or less the same game as it was at launch, although with more varied delves, better balance, a justice system and slightly more stuff for people do after level 50. Many returning PvE players will probably stay for a while.

For PvP, well, the official word is basically that it doesn't work, and most players seem to agree that the performance is now worse than ever. People who rage quit over lag in Cyrodiil are not going to be happy about the current state of the game, and I think many of them will just have a fit, leave and never come back. And who could blame them? If they come back and expect PvP, there will basically be nothing here for them when "Tamriel Unlimited" launches in a couple of days.

Tuesday evening I'm making popcorn. Regardless of the outcome, this will probably be exciting to watch.
And even if it turns out to be neither good or bad, just meh and not exciting at all, I like popcorn.

I don't think it will make such a big difference.

Considering the 30 free days we got before it goes/went F2P, the clever customer would have bought the game a month ago. Or earlier if they haven't planned to play everyday anyways.

Actually, about a month ago I did notice it became much more crowded already.

Some new players might still join us on the 17., some are in the game already, and others will use the console which is a different server anyways. So I don't think it would change much.

Psst. Wanna know the real secret? While you pay your $15 every month and LOSE all access to the DLC if you ever have to unsub for whatever reason, I'm only gonna pay $10-$20 ( unless of course ZOS decides to go full mental reject and think their dlc will somehow be worth more than that ) every couple months to BUY and PERMANENTLY have access to that very same dlc whenever I want with no sub ever. And you should be thankful for that, because otherwise my wallet would never open at all to keep this game going.

Wanna know the even bigger super secret? I'll be part of the majority.

    lol. Totally didn't see that.

Has there been any reason for jumping from 1.6 to 2.0? I mean I know it's because of ESO:TU... but usually a version change indicates a significant increase in the program, not in the pay model of the program. Maybe it's the whole cash shop addition. I guess that's significant.

Kind of confirms that whole "We have been testing for Console Players" theory... Oh well... such is life in Tamriel.

Look on the bright side. We're still gonna be beta testers for consoles for the next few months ( and probably even after console release i.e. PC will receive the content first to debug it before it gets handed to consoles ), but now we no longer have to pay for the privilege of being testers!

What people seem to be missing is, sure, if you subscribe, you don't have permanent access to the DLC if you do unsubscribe, but you do get 1500 crowns every month that you subscribe and that is permanent. From what I've previewed of the Crown Store already, nothing cost more than 1500 and if I had to guess, I'd say that 1500 is equivalent to $15 of real money. I can't say for sure, but that's what it looked like last I saw the crown store. Otherwise, they would be selling mounts for basically nothing.

So with that $15 a month, you're getting your money in crowns (even better value if you're still on the 6 month plan, and even better if they add 12 month plans as rumoured) and you get access to everything else. Not to mention, you still get to support the development team, which is something that I've been happy to do for a full year now.

Sure, the game isn't perfect and there are still many outstanding bugs and issues, but this is the absolute best MMORPG for a player like myself, so I will continue to sub.

Very very common in development. In this case 1.6 was 99.9% of 2.0. This upcoming patch is the polish and official release of it and likely the switch to the crown store.

On the PTS patch 2.0.0 was ~850MB and 2.0.1 only has some more minor fixes I believe so I'd expect 1-2GB, yes.
